You can. b+MK > MK > U1 works.

Nah b+mk is a really good footsie tool. It can be used in a similar way as ryus Cr.mk if it hits follow it up assuming you started out of range. The only issues with it is the damage and it getting in the way of st.mk on accident

then its character specific, i have never get that link

whiff it and you´ll get swept a lot, its crappy

then I guess ryu shouldnt use cr.mk because if he whiffs it he can be swept.

No, this is how footsies work, b+mk is a great footsie tool, you just have to use it intelligently, which is like the basic rule of footsies.

you cant possibly being serious about cr.mk from ryu = our b.mk

GTFO

I dont know why you insist on putting words in peoples mouths everytime you get into a disagreement with someone.

If they are both punishable on whiff, it does not mean they are “equal” (whatever the fuck that means, you probably intentionally keep shit vague so that you can constantly change the subject as much as possible)

They are both whiff punishable, and using your logic, neither should be used.

you think is a good footsie tool, then use it

but you cant say its as good as cr.mk from ryu

I don’t think its as good or anything, I just don’t think its necessarily crappy. Its kind of useful at catching people off guard, even though she does have better pokes. The only reason I somewhat like it is because its one of the easier footsie tools for counter hits.

i have the feeling that our main problem is semantics

Perhaps.

in the other hand why is your av so blurry?

I wish I knew :-\

For the life of me I can’t upload an av that doesn’t end up being blurry ever since the upgrades.

I think whatever was causing the blurriness has been fixed. I re-uped mine and it looks fine now.

So, I’m reading Gen suggestions… getting salty that people would even ask for more damage on his ultra when it does so much after super. Then I took a look at some other cast members and their max damage potential with full meter and was surprised that quite a few of them could use their supers and ultra in the same combo (Gouken, Twins, Makoto, Dee Jay, Sagat, Dhalsim, Rose and maybe a couple more) .
'Would be nice if Chun Li could do that (and trust me, I tried), but then people would bitch about “oh it’s too fast and practical for that much damage”. Then I’d just say what everyone else says for their characters who can do that: “It uses all my meter, so it’s fucking justified.” Since that’s the only argument people can make towards that ability, but apparently it doesn’t become obvious how bothersome it is until you give it to someone like Chun Li or Honda. But it needs more damage, right?

gen u1 cant punish fireballs like hosenka does tho

His U2 can. And his other U2 (because having stances grants you the right to 4 ultras) still combos easily after super (which is MORE damage numerically than U1) and I brought up how the post knockdown situation is a bigger problem for characters like Chun or Rose who have maybe like a 5% chance of avoiding that extra hit vs a Gen who’s taken the time to learn the setups. And it can still just kill if the opponent’s health is low enough. I didn’t ask for a nerf, I just don’t think it deserves a buff… at all.

But nah, it’s just a gimmick because other characters can DP x FADC their way out and regenerate their grey health (even though I’ve put up with this shit for the past two versions on a regular basis and I KNOW my chances of getting away from it once he lands it). So most asked for it to do real/more damage instead in addition to having the FB punishing ultra in Crane stance… and somebody even asked for it to be safe on block as well.

safe on block is bs

Hello Necrotrophic

What do you think about making a new a thread about your use of b+mk. What you say is very interesting and i start to realize that one on the main purpose of this move is for counter hits at whiff range like you said.

If Capcom has choose to add a buff of 6 frames on counter hit for this move, it’s not for nothing

my use of b+mk isnt very complicated, and if you understand footsies on a decent level you can figure it out pretty easily on your own.

There are two situations that I typically find useful for b+mk TC, both are used outside of the opponents current range, and you do b+mk then immediately press mk

  1. If they walk forward - the range at which this works is if they press forward to walk forward, you hit them. If they are crouching or intending to block, you whiff.
  2. if they throw out a bad normal

You arent confirming it when you do it this way, you have to do it in such a way if they dont do either of the two above, the second part of the combo doesnt come out (the move whiffs). Its sort of like doing cr.mk into hado just fishing for it.

understanding the effective range is of the highest importance. If you do it at the correct range, you essentially dont have to consider other options as much (unless they are the type to just throw out reversals out of nowhere, in which case, you shouldnt even be playing footsies with them, they are probably just mashers)You also have to understand when it might be a good idea to throw it out vs when it may not be. Both of these come with experience.

I am not actually the biggest fan of this move though, I do the exact same thing I described above but with st.mp/mk to EX legs. Its much better for ultra setups than b+mk

If you throw out b+mk and they block the first move, you arent doing it correctly. This is a pretty standard option select method that lots of players use, and when you see someone do a really fast hit confirm, they arent actually hit confirming, they are doing what I’m talking about. If you dont understand the ranges or the appropriate times to do it, you will get punished really really bad.

Thanks for your long and clear answer !!!
It doesn’t matter if you are a not a big fan of this move though.
What matter is it’s the first time i read someone talk about an utility of the move since 4 years. In my opinion that deserve a whole thread even if that seems an obvious use with nothing fancy.

Today maybe 99% of the players feel the move is useless
