It would be useful if Capcom gave us an idea on just how much of a change they were willing to make to a character based on community feedback. If its just small frame tweaks and possible hitbox adjustments then Chun’s still going to be blah-tier after the patch.

Right now until I hear more, my only clear and simple want is U1 to be full-auto animated after 1st hit connects. If Bison can have guaranteed full ultra on his U1 then it just seems like Capcom being dimwits again not allowing Chun the same luxury (Or would that make her S+ tier broken as fuck in Capcom’s book?).

if chun could have full animation on u1 on first hit, then u2 has no purpose, and she can land u1 off of the easiest footsie tool in the game (b+mk)

in short, it would be very much over powered

Yeah, while I would love for U1 to give animation lock, I agree that it would virtually eliminate the need for U2. Giving it full juggle in the corner is enough. You either get corner juggles with U1 or you get juggles anywhere with U2.

Sometimes I wonder what frame of reference people are using when they say ‘over powered’.

Giving Chun-li a dive kick from any airborne frame would be very much over powered. Giving her full connecting U1 wouldn’t even move her up a spot in the tiers.

U2 being redundant isn’t my problem, it’s Capcom’s. Easy, comboable ultras that do no damage and add nothing to the characters game were a lazy idea implemented as a new player option to begin with (ex. Viper, Chun, Sakura, etc).

Having a 400+ damage and easily confirmable option each round would definitely shift the matchups enough to move her up in tiers because it gives her a good comeback factor that she doesn’t currently have (but someone like Rufus does and he does better than he would normally do because of it imo) . Otherwise why even ask for it?

I see that suggested buff as OP because it would be in addition to it being one of the fastest/best punisher ultras in the game (including covering the far range). Other characters that have the lock animation don’t have nearly as many confirms and/or punishes with their ultras.

This is why I want it and more. Are you trying to get Chun-li to just be mediocre with the next patch? Or get some shit that will finally reflect that ‘World’s Strongest Woman’ title she’s been frauding?

If we got animation lock, she would probably be the best character in the game by far. If you use b+mk and know anything about footsies, you can land it at least 3 or 4 times a match.

Lets look at all the ways she can land it:

  1. b+mk (no ex needed, which is HIGHLY unusual for a ground setup for an ultra)
  2. air target combo
  3. ex legs
  4. Counter hit focus attack
  5. df. lk (it sucks, but sometimes you can actually get it, also you’d need ex legs to build charge)
  6. lvl 2 or 3 focus
  7. focus attack that causes someone to go air born
  8. ex sbk
  9. Anytime someone backdashes
  10. Highly situational instances where dumb people try to jump a fireball in the corner and get hit, and chun has enough time to charge
  11. Anytime someone did anything that was airborn, so peace out anyone with a divekick or airborn specials in anyway.

Nobody is stopping you from posting it over there (and more… and this is the last day to do so). I’m just calling it for what it is (overpowered) and you can try to push it, but if I can see it as OP and several others in this thread can, then I highly doubt the people who hate and/or don’t even play as Chun will try to let it fly.

This is the main problem with U1 1st hit animation lock - unless you had a move that changed your mid-air trajectory, you could never leave the ground when Chun was sitting on meter and charge. Anywhere on the screen. You can already tag people who jump in the corner or close enough to it. Being able to do that anywhere on screen…haha. Like Necro said, I’d take it but it’d be broke as fuck.

Chun’s U1 is already way better than Bison’s U1. Faster startup and more range. It’s arguably one of the best punish ultras in the game. I’m actually fine with it as-is.

lol, of all the crap some characters have in this game I didn’t think easy mode full U1 for Chun would be considered one of the more broken things that could be gained. Keep this a secret, because I’m willing to bet you’re the minority on this. =)

Even after reading Necrotrophic’s post it feels like if that was the only buff Chun got in the next patch she still wouldn’t be seen very often if at all in terms of results (assuming characters stay roughly where they are now). It’s interesting to think about though, I would love to see just how effective U1 lock would be, just in terms of a new threat with an old tool.

Capcom, buff Chun-li so that Justin wants to play her again. Done.

I would love to see Chun’s jump frames be reduced by 1-2f. This would make her safe jump setups infinitely better and easier off hard knockdowns. This will at the very least make her a setups oriented character like everyone in the cast. It might destroy the safe jumps against certain matchups like Sagat and Rog but the trade off would be a consistent setup that works across the entire cast.

Have we considered giving her U1 the same treatment as Gouken’s back-throw into ultra? Basically, make it animation lock, but if U1 lands after some kind of hit confirm, make it do significantly less damage. Otherwise, full damage if no hit confirm. You still have to time it right for the first hit of U1 to land, making it still more risky than the easier U2. And since focus attacks are such a bane for Chun, this would allow your opponent to think twice before attempting focus on all of Chun’s options.

the second hit of b.mk is 11frames, against good players with good focuses you will get crumpled. Making it faster (as in, down to 4 frames or something) would honestly buff the move alot, since it would also you mean could actually hit confirm the damn thing without worrying about doing it so slow your opponent can block, which is the real reason I don’t use b.mk in footsies.

Yeah I don’t really know frame data much. But the main benefit of using b+mk in footsies is if you double tap it right outside your opponents range, if they whiff a move you get a ch, if it hits, they were walking forward. st.mp ex legs is good with this too

Would be pretty cool if b+mk was cancel’able, since the answer to a faster b+mk, mk would be focus backdash to force the followup to whiff. If you can cancel it into hazanshu you would be able to make a read and punish them for doing it

the only way I can see an animation lock is if its with one of the kicks right before where most people fall out. This would still prevent mid screen ultra1 stuff.

Animation lock on the first hit makes no sense.

b.mk is a very crappy footsie tool and you CANT link u1 after a raw b.mk xx mk TC, you need at least one ex legs or you need to do the full TC for a crappy damage.

rufus tc in the other hand…
