yes, and last time i played evil (in january), he beat me 10-4. and i dont play this game at all (and dont have 3rd caracter). lol
u see, even scrub can win some matches. or am i strong?^^
Popo187: what about rc hundred hand slap
Apoc: thanks for saying what i would have tryed to say in my poor english
Heh. Point taken, sorry I didn’t quite catch you the first time. I mostly agree, though with less emphasis on the “CvS2 is stupid” and more emphasis on “people give in way too much to conventional wisdom” and “Evil won, get the hell over it”.
Hi.
I was there, but I didn’ watch the Daigo/Evil match. I actually was playing on a seperate console and I glimpsed evil coin tossing Daigo for sides and thought “hah like it matters”. I haven’t watched the video but it’s been pretty much outlined, so here’s the deal.
Stop fucking hating on Evil. He’s decent. I saw Yamazaki93 play, and he’s pretty damned good as well. Im personally not very much impressed that Evil beat Daigo one match. Daigo didnt look that good all day. He was just really inconsistent at various moments throughout the tourney. I dont have anything to attribute it to, manz just fell into some bad spots. It happens. Evil took advantage and won. He did come first out of his bracket (although it was the easiest of the brackets, no disrespect, with no other top players present if I recall).
However, Im VERY impressed that be beat RF 2/3 matches. That is fucking impressive, because RF is a beast and the next big thing as far as I’m concerned. I feel sorry for whomever get him in his pool at evo, for ANY game, because that kid is MAJOR skills. For Evil to beat him like that, good fucking shit. I walked over and caught the tail end of that match, and saw what must’ve gone on, being that Evil just adatped well to the play style of his opponent, plain and simple. BillyKane pass that onto him if you get a chance, mad props for beating RF (not to mention Daigo and Yamazaki93).
Daigo had a bad day, Evil had a good day. End of story.
P.S. Apoc, you said Ino isn’t the best since he uses easy characters and easy groove. Regardless of what chars/grooves he uses, he IS the best. Ino is a fucking god in cvs2. I was playing with him after the tournament against people, and asked him what character he wanted. Dude starts picking random groove AND character and OCVing people(not shitty scrubs either, decent players). He is a fucking CvS2 beast, he can play every single character in the game. He OCV’d heads with r1 s groove dan. Nobody else can do shit like that. He plays what he plays because it wins. He played Team A groove on Bas in the finals and got banged up, then he switched to K groove team and gained control.
Also, roll super as a viable tactic isny anything new. Ask anyone on east coast.
yes, i thought ino could only play k-groove cammy, sagat, blanka…but HE CAN USE EVERY CHAR. and too well. (and every groove). hes a beast T____T
Evil beat daigo and thats it no excuses! plus no rcs damn…
i found that daigo was acting arrogant also by making guile his anchor
Sup Ski:)
I meant that Ino’s choice of teams is part of his strategy. Chikyuu’s strategy is match-up only and he makes it challenging for himself by picking teams or characters that aren’t viewed as highly likely to win. It’s merely a matter of viewpoints. In my view, Chikyuu gets more props placing 3rd at a great tourney, with his teams, than Ino would get winning, with his. Why? I think it’s obvious that had Chikyuu picked his characters to make it less challenging, he could be vying for 1st too. However, I think that would make practicing boring for Chikyuu. He doesn’t want the team or characters doing any of the work for him(understand that this is all speculation). Some players don’t care how a win is gained. I am one that does. How someone wins is just as important as winning itself. It’s like a physical confrontation. Pulling a gun is smart and strategic(we’re talking for the win here ONLY ppl) but not very respectable. The gun holder goes in with a clear advantage. I think a great player wants his playing to reign supreme and doesn’t want his character choice to be a main factor in victory.
It’s all in how you view victories. I like to analyze how a win is gained. If there’s some stupid glitch that can’t be escaped or a desperate 80% lucky comeback etc…I just can’t give props there. Here’s an extreme example. Using Guile in WW, if magic throwing were legal, would you give props to the player that used it to win? Yeah, I know that’s ridiculous but how a person wins is important to some, like me. As such, the player that wins while only using the best of the best gets less credit. Not simply because he had key advantages going in but, he copped out on his talent, in a way. Ino is talented, no doubt. So why not showcase it like Chikyuu does? Or pick those characters but in a harder groove or something worthy of his talent? Would KSK have gotten hella props if he were using Chun li throughout the Evo3s tourney? Of course not. His talent made Alex a beast, the character didn’t make KSK a beast. I like to be marvelled by the tricks and nuances of a master player. It’s so much harder to come by those gems of great playing, positioning, footgames, etc, when only the best characters are used.
I think, to most, winning is all that matters. But once you’ve won a few times… Gee-O, used to dominate for free with Chun. I think he’s much more impressive now that he dominates with multiple characters. We all know that he could’ve just kept owning for free with the easiest character in the game. By the same token, I know Ino’s dope. I don’t need to see a ton of K-CBS wins to prove that. If he comes out with a dope team that’s not completely 4 x’s top tier, I’d be much more impressed.
I realize that I’m in the minority here but as far as I’m concerned, Ino has only proven to be the best when using CBS in K. Switch to C,A,P,S or N and see if he can compete with the likes of Daigo and Tokido etc. There’s nothing to make me think he can compete with the other top Japanese without K-CBS. If K CBS weren’t so simplistic, it wouldn’t be an issue to me. In this case though, the team always does half or the work no matter who is using them.
LOL, I can’t wait to here the hating from K-groove players. Hey, I ain’t hating the players or the game. K’s simplistic enough for noobs and scrubs. It seems weak when a great player uses that shiet.
And NO, I’m not saying that K is the only stupid shiet in the game.
Hey, it’s the same with OG Sagat in ST. Outside of a match or two, his abilities can do the winning for you. Just seems weak for a top player to need those advantages. Sim is just as good but requires much more to win with. Both are said to be the best but, OG Sagat gets no props because anyone good could do well with him as their main. The same can’t be said for Sim.
Just to make it clear one more time. This is how “I” view some things. I’m not trying to say that ppl should look at things my way. I know that most only care about the win. Hell, you don’t hear ANYTHING about Tyson being on some messed up steroids to make him more aggressive when he was knockin’ folks out. All ppl cared about was that he was knockin’ fools out. A guy like me, however, with my critical eye, is gonna say, “look at him now! Can’t use his roids and needs to take calming medication? So much for dumbass advantage. How good was he again? Yes, yall were stupid to compare him to Ali EVEN in Tyson’s prime. He had bs advantages that no one wanted to address because winning is everything to most, despite the old adage: “it’s not whether you win or lose, but how you play the game.””
I view things in both ways. It’s whether you win or lose AND how you play the game.
Apoc.
I guess that’s all that really matters in the end. I have nothing more to say about the topic. But still…
wow
What an upset. I wonder what the Vegas odds would of been.
apoc: thats why i use girls team^^ (sakura, yuri, athena) and use only character i like in other game too. one of the reason why is cvs2 so popular? because this kind of fucking-easy-strong character makes the game easier…so, lot of scrubs can play and wins (thats my point of view)
ps: yes, dhalsim is as good as sagat (cf ranking), but needs more skills.
how were the entry numbers for A3 compared to the other games ?
Temujin : A3 entries were pretty big, definately compareble to the other games, you wouldve loved it. I didnt run any of the A3 pools, but there shouldve been 50+ players. Prizes were set at 300,150, and 100 pounds though.
Apoc: sups man. I do actually share your view on O. Sagat. You might actually be interested to know that Daigo came HELLA close to losing at ST (surprised no brought this up till now) to a super O.G. London ST player. Dude was up 2-1 on Daigo’s Ryu, then Daigo switched to Rog to make the comeback. He actually says that he doesn’t play Rog, although that’s his best character, because he’s too cheap. I just dont particularly feel that way about K groove CBS. I mean there are many disadvantages to that team aside from A-Sakura. I mean we don’t need to get into a discussion of game mechanics on this board, but, K-CBS is not the be all end. I dont think its that much harder to win with Team CvS2(sak bison blanka)if you can just do the customs and the RC. The k groove team has MAD tricks and nuances, and requires a great deal of precision to not just get mopped straight out. K Blanka goes against half the concept of traditional siting around with your meter because you can’t hold it, and so on. Besides that, in a single game tournament, may as well pick that top tier team (albeit not cheap, IMO). Its a good team, but so are many others. Now if you want to win using a BAD team, thats your perogative, but(to reference your analogy), why go into that boxing match with no arms just to show how hardcore you are? Ino does mad work with his characters, its just different. IMO he has the best execution in the world, and he really has a head for the game. Dude did his homework, so he should reap his rewards. Im sure Bas can/has/will run through loads of other K CBS’s, but I don’t see him making it past Ino anytime soon.
p.s. we gotta chill again at evo, maybe hit up the herb, than we can really discuss the particularities of cvs2
Gotta agree to disagree on the K-CBS issue. I don’t feel that K needs to land supers at all. Higher damage, higher defense, life back etc. Too good. Take away the defense and the life back or the decreased blockstun and it’d be fair but, as is, there’s no need to work nearly as much. I’ve never respected CCs either. Button activated invincibility that’s faster(practically speaking) than a jab. Ppl would complain if you could shinkuu hado that way even if you had to individually do fireball motions correctly. Plus they are all purpose unlike supers that you need a real opening to land. Walk up into throw/walk up cc is a retarded, yet effective way to land a cc too, lol. So, as you can see and as I’ve said plenty, K AND A are the easiest to win with. However, some CCs take some practice but…I’m more impressed with ideas as opposed to the ammount of time someone puts in to be good.
Just wanted to clear up the issue and note that A-groove is pretty lame too. At least it looks like they tried to balance a lil with A. Imagine if you could CC at 50% meter. Still, CCs, in their activation, have been stupid to me since A2. A3’s took the most skill and creativity and are still lame. heheh
What a TRAVESTY! I can’t believe that no one noted that Daigo almost lost ST there. This Euro player sounds dope! Who is he? I hope I get the chance to check him in action against other comp, eventually. Sounds like he might shake up the US ST scene. Hook up the info on this guy:) Any match details or vids?
V-Ryu:Dooood! Are you ever going to come to a US tourney? Although Evo is weak for ditching A3.
If Absolution keeps going annually, I’ll have to check it out one year. I play casually nowadays. Maybe after a couple of years I’ll get that fire again. Anyway, Absolution sounded great:) Although, I’m an arcade player. Consoles…it’s not my thing to sit at home and play games for hours. Maybe in the future.
Apoc.
The London player is named Joseph, goes by Zazza (Joe Zazza…har dee har).
But basically he said he played SF way back in the day and retired in like 94 after winning the whatever the biggest tourney for the current SF was. He heard about abs 3 months ago so went into training for it, and gave the champ a run for his money. So I think he’s retired again, won’t hear much from him anytime soon. He’s good, but if I recall he just barely beat Kuni. I really wanted Kuni to get that win. Oh well. Ino played Honda on Kuni. What cheapness. There are some real solid players over here, in every game…except not so much in cvs2 or mvc2
good shit from kuni zangief vs o.sagat!
Yeah Kuni’s geif was l33t.
it was unexpected that Daigo would switch to balrog when he was loosing though.
but i noticed that there were two players at the event that did not enter ST, they were Ryza and Damien and they are almost as beastly as joseph imo.
Who did Zazza use?
On an unrelated note. Anyone here notice that SRK doesn’t have real tourney news? I mean, for the tourney crowd, you’d think a lot of this thread would be a headline on the front page. It’s not as if anything else is making the frontpage. Nothing newsworthy anyway. Up until Evo prep time, there’s barely an update per month and it’s nothing earth shattering. To me, “Daigo loses in CvS2 in Europe!” is news I’d be interested in reading about. Why don’t we get any headlines that do more then sell the Evo idea or highlight a friendly website or a major… when it happens(the original tourney announcement should be the headline) Seriously, SRK has wack ass news updates and headlines. NOTHING about this tourney was highlighted by SRK. Who’s in charge of that crap, heheh. SRK is tight but, they drop the ball on headlines and headline updates.
Apoc.
truth.
SRK’s news is horrible.
E town: rofl @ pic
Apoc: Zazza used o.sagat
yeah the news headline thing is a good idea.
