I guess it’s time to update the tier list, since Player One Honda is obviously better than Player Two Honda.
No…but having fun is. And this glitch is mad fun. I’ve been messing around with this a bunch online, and I’ll play a completely different Honda when I’m on the left hand side now than I do when I’m on the right hand side
I don’t know if anybody mentioned it or not (can’t search on “HF”), but this doesn’t seem to work in HF when I briefly tried it.
completely agree. If you leave the door open for cheaters, they will walk in.
A good example is fanatiq using OBD, one button dash, the other year @ evo for marvel. The downside to that was, he couldn’t use one helper. In HD’s case, guile can still have all 6 buttons, then use a 7\8th button for fwd\back. There’s no downside to it @ all.
wasnt that falco ? in the sub stage?
I think in a live setting things like this will be easily monitored. Online not much you can do unless it get patched.
Along these lines though, what’s gonna happen when people get mad catz sticks and have “20 presses per second” buttons? I see that causing a lot more problems than the walk forward will in tourneys. It will be like getting noogied by the cpu in vanilla arcade ST
This thread is making my head hurt and seriously making me hate SRK. Especially when geniuses like Spider-Dan try to stir up non-specific hysteria for their own amusement.
I think we’ve proven (without even scratching the surface of what’s possible with this gimmick) that it is clearly broken. If Backbone releases a patch forcing the player to choose whether they want to disable the D-Pad or the analog stick, that should be enough. If they want to put in the extra work to disable simultaneous opposing directions, that’s even better.
But if they don’t, who fucking cares? If someone brings a pad to Evo, then we watch their hands. If you’re scared of people rigging their custom sticks to take advantage of this gimmick, well that’s dumb cuz there’s a million other things they could be secretly abusing.
All these years, if someone thought they were clever enough to get away with cheating, they could wire rapid fire to their fierce button to guarantee link combos and reversals. Or they could wire 3K to the short button to make TAP charging a lot easier. Or HF players could wire LK+HP to the fierce button to make CPS1 chains easier. What demands would you throw at Backbone then?
Seriously, some of the points people are making serve no purpose whatsoever. Do we have to overreact every single time someone finds anything new? I hate how the number of people willing to sit down and do the research instead of spouting out theory fighter bullshit never ever tops 5%.
I haven’t had a chance to try this yet, but if the automatic guaranteed block on all cross-up attempts is indeed true, that would be the most immediately abusable use that anyone of any skill-level could immediately employ and which would significantly damage game play.
The other tactics require varying degrees of practice, but in the case of honda and boxer it doesn’t look like it would take much…
Well, hopefully they fix this stuff. But for $10, I can definitely say I already got my money’s worth several times over and it’s the most fun I’ve had on SF in 10 years.
Speaking of exploits, in the very early days of WW, some people considered combos to be exploits.
It’s actually $15.
And by “abusing,” you mean “making it easier to perform actions that can already be performed normally in the arcade.” OK, then.
We aren’t talking about a secret programmable joystick with an SPD button. Yes, that’s cheating. No, nobody cares about it because everyone else can also do SPDs.
We are talking about a bug that allows you to do something that CANNOT normally be done, no matter how skilled you are (<— this part is important). Trying to compare it to a turbo button is ridiculous; anything that they do with a turbo button is something that you’d still need to account for without one. This is clearly not the case with this bug.
If you don’t think the bug is a big deal, then fine. But don’t try to sell me on 1) we will watch peoples’ hands or 2) it will be obvious if they use it, because then you are admitting that it IS a big deal, but you’re just trying smokescreen it with some match-integrity-theater; nothing is actually prevented, but people feel like something is being done.
Goddamnit you’re right. >_< To think I’ve played that game for years…
Peppy Hare says soon after it “LOOK OUT IT’S A TRAP”
In that case, if you don’t think the current Evo rules are enough to combat rigged controller abuse and you believe an SPD button constitutes cheating, then why weren’t you campaigning for rule revisions before? This same exploit was possible last year. Why did you choose this year to descend from your mountain and lecture us?
At least some of the other people in this thread are experimenting with this thing and pointing out solid reasons why it’s broken. You’re just here to start drama, state the obvious, and take credit. That shit is weak.
99.9% of those worried about this will not even play at evo. 100% of those who go to evo will not even care to use the trick, because if it is a really an issue Wiz will ban it. You all need to let it go. A scrub is a scrub. HDR has many more problems than this oversite.
Maybe I’m a bit uninformed here, but I’ve heard tons and tons of theories about how someone would wire a joystick to do so and so or whatever, but has anyone ever actually done it? I think I heard real accusations of it -once-. It’s the same for this glitch.
Sure you could, but who will? “Yeah, I totally modded my stick to take advantage of a bug that’ll probably get patched out!”. Even if someone did, I think at some point someone would get suspicious and it’d be easy to check real quick. Sure, pad players are annoying, but how far could they scrub them selves up the ranks before someone catches them?
I think at this point people are going to be actually WANTING to catch someone. Either way if I wanted to cheat I’d definitely do it in another game that no ones suspecting it in, with a hack (like turbo) which is more universally useful and less likely to arouse suspicion.
<3 Fatboy and Maj.
hmm… well, I don’t actually own the ps3. I thought it was 10 so I threw my friend a 10 dollar bill since he “wasn’t sure if he wanted to get it”.
Not really a big deal at all, will probably make for crazy combo videos though.
It looks like David SIRLOIN made some serious mis-steaks with this game!
lolololollolololollolololollolololollolololollolololollolololollolololollolololollolololollolololollolololollolololollolololol
Kidding, I love the thing.
It’s kind of weird that GGPO players who use keyboards don’t already abuse this if it was possible in original ST.
But anyway, this makes me think about what would be considered cheating in a custom stick.
It’s obvious that wiring buttons together to get macro’ed inputs for stuff like dashing and turn punches is against the rules, but what about wiring up two buttons to do the same thing?
Like say you have two jab buttons on your stick. Hitting them alternatively or just rapidly at the same time would be essentially be a turbo function. So that is probably out.
I saw a guy once who used a joystick that was all buttons. He used 4 competiton buttons in place of a joystick. Abusing this glitch would probably be trivial to him. Should that type of custom controller be banned?
And of course, there was always the idea that a properly built custom stick could do all kinds of terrible things like using programed macros, hidden turbo buttons, and even controlling the other player.
I think it’s something that is out of our control and we should just try to punish it when we see it unquestionably in action at a tournament.
Reading is fundamental?
There is no strategy that one can accomplish with a turbo button or an SPD button that cannot be accomplished without one. That’s the difference.
And if “this same exploit was possible last year,” why is this thread entitled “absolutely broken: walk forward while holding charge” instead of “water confirmed still wet: charge while walking forward glitch still present in new version of ST”?
“Starting drama” after four pages of debate?
“Stating the obvious” that usage of this glitch need not necessarily be blatant?
“Taking credit” for …???
Did you have any objective in this thread other than to call me out by name? Just wondering.
It doesn’t work in FBA. It treats a left+right inputs as neutral inputs.
