Absolute Question and Answer Thread v.3 (ASK YOUR QUESTIONS HERE!)

The N is shaped to fit a human hand without strain, the Vewlix isn’t… But since I know not everyone likes ergonomic layouts, I recommended a Vewlix layout stick that’s common in the UK anyway?

Again…You’re confusing preference with fact. The Namco Noir/Sega 1P button layout is extremely uncomfortable for me (and others). I’ve had two of those N sticks—so I know well.

Telling others which layout is good and bad is akin to telling others that strawberry jam is good and all other flavors are bad. That would due to your taste, not their less-optimal levels of Vitamin C.

…so I recommended him two sticks and one was specifically if he preferred Vewlix layout lol

The Noir layout exist as Namco didn’t want to pay royalties to Tatio for the Vewlix layout, Period.

They are very similar layouts with placements are off by millimeters.

Debating one over the other is just asinine.

Anyone that used japanese cabs or went to the arcades in Japan, know if the springs get swapped or come with a 2-4lb springs?

Hi, Can Anyone Send to me the Thread Where I can see A Guide for soldering/wiring map for Hori RAP 4 Kai PCB. all the links ive been through are either doesn’t exist or its private

Nah? It’s a Sega layout with wider spacing? So the button layout isn’t just different, the distance between stick and buttons is too (fyi I prefer Sega 1p, haven’t tried Sega 2P).

I don’t get why Vewlix people get outraged when I say “Try a Noir” - the premium and even low end market has catered to Vewlix for ten years, the first high end stick I bought was Vewlix, and I had to go through 3 horribly uncomfortable sticks until the Tekken 7 stick when I could finally use all three punches and kicks in comfort. Don’t complain how all these Namco sticks ruined your comfort as if all these Vewlix sticks didn’t crowd out the market and wreck my hands, lol.

No one’s getting outraged about squat, @Double_Draggin
Newsflash: When you take steaming elitist dumps on what others may prefer—with gems like “unergonomic”—people put you in your place. Welcome to reality.

@Signal the JLFs used in arcades I’ve visited definitely use the standard .9lbf springs. They are floppy AF, especially when they’re installed in cabs for shmups. I couldn’t tell you about Seimitsu-equipped cabs, because after four arcades in two major cities…I’ve yet to find one. :unamused:

Nah, I recommended a different kind of stick layout to 90% of the market right now using a common word to describe curved buttons (Google “ergonomic keyboard” and tell me the difference between the first picture you see and a standard laptop - it’s curved buttons). Vewlix users are overserved in the market and have been for over 10 years - some of the earliest “Real Arcade” console sticks incorporated it as part of the outer 6 buttons. I appreciate you play more comfortably on Vewlix and dude, you hit the fucking jackpot because if you have any kind of stiffness in your hand the 3P and 3K are murder. Vewlix is difficult to play with finger disability and the FGC has an elevated risk of hand injury.

I recommend these sticks, because just like Vewlix is more comfortable to you, the curved layout (often referred to as “ergonomic” by people) made arcade sticks much easier to use for me.

Plus, I recommended he buy a Venom and you said get an Obsidian, and I’m the elitist? Come the fuck on, only one of us is recommending afordable sticks here! Chill out dude.

No one else cares what you think is more ergonomic.

Every one got their own preferences.
Hell there people who prefer the Capcom straight 6 layout seen on US cabs, and that about as uneconomic as you can get.3

Yeah but this is the point I’m making. People have different needs, but the same sticks with the same layouts keep getting recommended - and people could be using a shit layout for their needs. I use “ergonomic” here in its design language sense. The actual button layout and spacing of a stick is a huge factor in every day use that doesn’t get enough attention.

Anyone have experience padhacking this?

You’re wasting your time trying to convince this guy. He’s been here only two months, but amazingly has all the answers. Just be jealous that you haven’t acquired as much wisdom as him in the 8 years you’ve been here, and the tens of thousands of posts you’ve contributed.

Christ, the level of protection is Freudian here… I’m here to help newbies dude, I don’t particularly care about your ego. You’ve had an entire market cater to your specific (and very unusual) needs for ten years because every manufacturer copied the SFIV stick, and the second someone expresses a problem with that setup you call them spastics or something… You can either help people or you can swing your ego around and contribute to the low participation on tech talk by pouncing on newbies who don’t have exactly the same opinions as you. I specifically recommended a cheap but sturdy Vewlix stick to him as an alternative because I paid attention to the times you talked about your ergonomic needs back when I was lurking… Why are you acting like such a disrespectful clown, again? Go jerk off or something and calm down. You’re being a prick over semantics, nobody likes that except other pricks…

I’m going to keep this reply short, as this exchange has poisoned the thread thus far. I’m not even going to attempt to address your mouth-foaming TL;DR response above. I’ll just quote you (from what started this all) and let everyone in the thread judge things for themselves.

Aside from this, I’m done with you.

Oh my God why are you crying because I used the word “unergonomic”? Chill out, nobody was poisoning anything until your massive ego got dented over nothing, this is so fucking weird

Apologies to anyone who actually uses this forum for arcade stick advice, if you have any kind of stiffness or cramp consider a a stick layout curved to naturally fit your hands, use gunpla responsibly because it may cause salt overdoses, peace

So I am building a hitbox with a Brook Universal PCB in it; as you may already know, the brook pcb has a female USB-B connection on the board. I, however, would like to use the neutrik RJ45 passthrough along with a RJ45 to USB-A cable outside of the case.

So my question is, would I be able to buy an adapter to allow this to work?
passtrhough
Was thinking I could use something like this to go from the Male-B to Male-A usb cable coming from the PCB to the RJ45 passthrough.

Overall cable diagram would be something like this

Would this work? I know I’m kind of jumping through hoops here, but figured I would ask and possibly save myself some trial and error.

You could just make a short USB to ethernet cable, that might be a better connection. Since all you’re doing is wiring a USB pinout to an ethernet pinout, it’d be fairly sturdy and one less point of failure. All you’ve gotta do is make sure the four USB lines on the Brook correspond to the right lines on the console USB port.

The problem here is that you’re reacting badly to people pointing out that you were trying to make an objective statement (whether or not something is “unergonomic”) on something that the community in general finds to be subjective.

As a moderator, I can tell you this kind of thing usually doesn’t lead to meaningful conversation, and isn’t exactly great advice.

There’s sort of a history though - I very gently asked that guy not to call people who call use RAP kai spaced layouts “spastics” a while ago (I’m disabled) and he flipped the fuck out on me for several posts. I would never make a serious claim to the objectivity of any layout because I know everyone has different needs and was just trying to find a word that a newbie would understand without having to pour over every page of slagcoin.

Either way I’ve seen that user flip out over accessibility work on fightsticks multiple times because he doesn’t get the necessity of it and if he keeps going in on people over semantics and such you’re gonna end up with a dead forum. I already know everything I need to know to do the stick mods I want, I just post to help new people. Peace.
