Absolute Question and Answer Thread (ASK YOUR QUESTIONS HERE!)

Neutrik is a brand.
What Tech Talk refers to is a jack from Neutrik.

How to install?
Drill a 24mm hole.
Or take out your Select Button and put Neutrik there.

What you do need?
You need something to cut hole.
Or something to drill screw hole to mount.

There are two Neutrik used in Tech Talk.
A USB B to USB A, and the RJ-45.

Thanks a lot jdm, Do you know of a guide for installing Neutrik? like what to solder if theres any…

  1. Neutrik is a company that make various receptacles. They make Panel mount connectors such as USB, and Ethernet connectors. They also have also make audio connetors.

  2. For arcade sticks we typically use USB to put a detachable USB cord on the case, or the RJ-45 (ethernet) in conjunction with a MC Cthulhu to make multiconsole detachable cords.

3)Drill, 24mm bit. USB is easy to install on plastic and wood, RJ-45 easy for plastic, but not for wood. They run about $8-$11

For USB it is simple to install. Drill 24mm hole with either a hole saw or forstner bit. Place Neutrik usb. Mark off corner mounting holes. Drill mounting holes with small drill. Wood screw or bolt down mounting holes.

Thanks rtdzign, great guide. I’m only interested in the Detachable USB. I’ll ask you if I run into any problems

First I appologize if this has been answered, I’ve been going mad looking through the internet finding somewhat related material, but I’m still not sure if this will work.

I’m going to dual mod my Hrap EX 360 stick to work on PS3. From what I’ve heard, I’ll need a ChImp and a common ground PCB such as the madcatz 360 pad. So here is how big of a noobie I am at this lol. I just want to make sure I am not missing any curcial steps.

The part I’m missing in all of this is:

  1. I need to hack the madcatz pad PCB using one of the many tutorials readily available
  2. [SOMETHING]
  3. Connect the ChImp to the hacked PCB using a tutorial (can I use a TE stick to ChImp dual mod tutorial at this point?)

I have more questions, but I need to get to the point of “Am I purchasing the right stuff” first or did I forget to buy anything. But correct me if I’m wrong, once I have replaced the hori PCB with a common ground I can simply add the ChImp as if I had started out with a TE stick…

<-- obviously never done a mod before

Yes.

Thanks, I’ll start ordering stuff. And I see you favor Occam’s razor…

Simply.

Problem

Ok guys, need some help here…

I want to make a stick from ps1 gamepad PCB. I got the gamepad, but there is a problem:
I can’t find the diagram for my gamepad. It doesnt looks like any ps1 paddiagram I have found (slagcoin.com).

Pad pics:

The most simmilar looking one is this: http://www.slagcoin.com/joystick/pcb_diagrams/ps1_diagram8.jpg

The model iz SCPH-10010 A, made in Japan. Which is even more strange becouse 10010 goes to PS2 pads. And I’m sure this is a PS1 one…

So, can anyone help me? Can someone who had experience with this mark me the soldering points? Or can someone show me how to find them?

I have to finish this until friday, so fast responses are welcome

So easy.

Red is Signal.
Blue is Ground.

Wow, that was quick

Thanks

Do you guys know the general lifespan of a joystick? I have about 300 hours so far…

I guess you could say it depends on the stick… what are you using?

I’m not very familiar w/ the Joystick Models so I’m not very sure what model it is… I have a Mad Catz TE Round 2(My First FightStick)

TE’s last a fairly long time since they come with some pretty good components. Been using my TE since mid 2009 and i havent had issues. Sanwa buttons can last a long time.

:woot: Thats fairly long, Thats good to know they last:tup:

OBSF-30s are allegedly rated at one million button presses, by the way (Sanwa’s own numbers).

While Happ’s go 10 million…

Realizing that places like Future Shop and Best Buy don’t particularly sell PC Game Pads… I had to look at places like Factory Direct, Canada Computers, Tiger Direct, New Egg, places that are essentially sell aftermarket computer stuff. The thing is, these places have funky return policies, such as no full refunds, but store credit and such…

They all have a nice array of controllers but I’m looking for gamepads with d-pads that aren’t shitty, what I generally label as shitty are the unidirectional pads (where the directional pad is a circle), and contact pads that feel so weird… like have you have those moments where you try to do a qcf motion and somehow did an uf when you clearly didn’t go anywhere near the diagonal direction? Yeah i’m trying to avoid those gamepads but I don’t know what they feel like until i purchase it.

I know there has got to be at least 5 pc pad users here at SRK. Recommend me a few models that range from $5 to $25… Analog sticks aren’t a requirement, it must have 4 face buttons, 4 trigger buttons and preferrably a wired one.

Also if you had experienced any of these controllers, may I get a bit of feedback on them please?

I have an ASCII optical stick that I want to put in a stick with a Tekken 5 (US) pcb. The PCP does NOT have a power output like psx pcbs. How can I overcome this without resorting to gutting out the PCB and putting a new one in.

You’d have to ask strogg or rtdzign about installing it, but you’d need one of those populated $12 ones.
