Hey guys, a real noobish question. My Mad Catz TE stick is no longer under warranty and up towards (P1 side - Up/Right I guess) has decided it only wants to work half the time. I’ve taken the back casing off and had a quick look and everything seems to be in order. The gate clicks correctly at each point and nothing appears loose. I was hoping that there might be a quick(ish) fix or that something simple for a novice stick twiddler to do will be all that’s required to fix it. The stick is pretty solid (to my eyes) on the inside and I’m not overly confident about dismantling it.
Are the four rubber feet on the bottom of the TE stick supposed to be very difficult to unscrew? I could only get one out, and by what I see there seems to be some red glue residue placed in the holes where the screws were placed.
My question is, what’s the other one? The ones connecting all of the ribbon cables to the main board? I assume its another JST, but I dont know which one or what pitch. It looks like a PH but I’d like confirmation if anyone knows for sure.
Is there a simple spray-on solution one can buy for bare metal control panels to avoid rust/oxidation? I’m thinking the type used on the Namco stick, and also the bottom metal panels used in almost every Japanese retail stick. I recently cracked open an old Namco I’ve had since Soul Edge and the amount of rust that had accumulated under the control panel blew my mind
I want to be able to use vintage sticks, but avoid this problem in the future. Any ideas will be much appreciated.
Keep in mind, Japan is one HUMID ass place. Worse than southern Texas. In six weeks, my namco started showing rust, and it was pristine before I went.
Paint is pretty much the simple spay on solution. If you get all serious and worried about it, pack some beef jerky ‘silica dessicant - do not eat’ packs in with the stick and wrap 'em in some plastic sealer.
