Absolute Question and Answer Thread (ASK YOUR QUESTIONS HERE!)

Soon I will be attempting to dual mod. I have a bunch of random things that are bugging me so I figured I should ask before making any (more) assumptions.

  1. I bought one of the new Mad Catz 360 TE S sticks (the ones for SSFIV). I assumed the original Mad Catz sticks and the Type S would be, for the purposes of this mod, the same. Is this correct? I tried to search the forums but failed at it, so if you have any links

  2. Do I need to buy an unassembled ChImp board or can I buy an assembled one without the USB jack?

  3. I have a solder iron but need to pick up some actual solder and the syringe thing that you use for desoldering. Do I need anything else that I can’t pick up from a RadioShack and have to (or should) order online?

  4. What else might I be missing? I’ve done some board work with computers before but never anything like this. I don’t really want to get halfway in this and find that I screwed up because of lack of knowledge.

Thanks.

Hello there SRK.

Since I’m a bit too eager to wait for response in an earlier thread I have posted in I will take it here (also because the name seems to fit even better).

I am building my own arcade stick (done lots of planning and I won’t back out now even if it’s my very FIRST arcade stick) and I was wondering if Seimitsu’s 24mm PS-14-D-N clear buttons got the same durability as the other PS-14-G-X buttons despite it being based from a start style button (the PS-14-D)? My hands are quite small and no matter which layout and spacing I use for the 30mm ones I don’t seem to get it right.

@geogaddi:
Just use one of the four ground points on the ChImp for the daisy chain… i think that’ll be the easiest really…

@xeleion:

  1. Virtually the same… I don’t have my hands on one but from what i’ve heard theres only a slight difference… here, i took a quote from one of the modding pros from another thread:

… now even with the slight changes it shouldn’t affect ur dual mod since u’ll be wiring it up the same as any other TE… The points you will need to solder to will be labeled on the board so don’t fret…

  1. If you don’t want the USB jack either get the unassembled kit or get the assembled kit and desolder the USB jack off.

  2. Yes, thats all you need. Soldering iron, solder, and a desoldering pump.

  3. Wire to hook everything up. If you havent accounted for the wire yet people generally use btwn 22-24 awg insulated wire.

hope that helps… enjoy

No Seimitsu Button will have same durability as PS-14-GX or PS-14-GNX.
That is because those Buttons use heavy-duty Microswitches; OMRON B2R.

Those Microswitches, instead of using a Spring and Ball, use Spring and Magnet.

These OMRON B2R are also in Sanwa OBSF-30RG, OBSN-30RG and what other -RG.
The OMRON B2R, in Sanwa Catalog is RS-SG.

Seimitsu PS-14-GX and PS-14-GNX have been discontinued for long time now.

And just because a Button is certain size and used for certain things, doesn’t mean the performance is different to other.
A 24mm Button is just a 30mm Button that is smaller.

The PS-14D Microswitches are in the 24mm Buttons; PS-14-D, PS-14-DN, PS-14-DN(???).
The PS-14D Microswitch (TKC MM9-3) is also used in PS-14-K, PS-14-P, PS-15.
And those three Buttons there are 30mm.
CRAZY!

Rest of Seimitsu 30mm Buttons have PS-14G Microswitch (TKC MM9-4); PS-14-G, PS-14-GN, PS-14-GN(???), PS-14-KN.

And MM9-3 and MM9-4 are same specifications.

More than I expected but glad I understood it all. Thanks, I’m a lot closer my custom build now!

Hey, so I have a noobie question. And I’m sorry if there is another thread that this would be more suited for, I’m new to this site and I’ve never been good with the forum thing :stuck_out_tongue:

So I’m building a custom arcade stick, and I was wondering if anyone could tell me what I connect the wires from the wiring harness on the joystick to? I’m using the PCB from a wired Xbox 360 controller. Would I have to connect them to the appropriate signal wires coming from the PCB? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

If you are talking about the wire harness for the JLF then yes, you need to solder the wires to its appropriate signal on the pcb you have… the harness should have 5 wires with the obvious up, down, left, right inputs and the fifth wire being ground. Did a quick search and found this thread which u can use for reference: http://www.shoryuken.com/showthread.php?t=188046 … that should have the basic color scheme for the inputs on both sanwa and seimitsu harnesses from what i skimmed thru… enjoy.

Thank you guys so much! This will help a lot

Does anyone know of a section to get help with fixing a stick? Or maybe a place that will repair a stick?

Here’s my problem, my joystick on the TE is messed up. It gets stuck doing the forward walking, backward walking and sometimes gets stuck in crouch. This becomes a problem when I need to go from crouch moves to standing moves. It also doesn’t help if I’m corner pressuring and attempting to space, then my stick makes me walk too far forward or back.

Is this a problem with the stick itself, the wiring, or what?

All the buttons seem to work fine, but the joytick doesn’t work in the 360 guide at all and all the mentioned problems above persist.

Should I open up the stick take a pic and repost? I’m pretty much clueless on how to fix this, and I’ve only had the stick about 6 months or so and rarely ever played vanilla sf4 and just started playing a lot of ssf4.

tl;dr

Joystick exclusively is messed up(guide on 360 doesn’t function and motions get stuck), how would I go about figuring out the problem and fixing it?

Sounds like you are not on DP.

What does that mean?

Your Switch; LS-DP-RS.

^Just like jdm said, check your switches on the turbo guide panel… sounds like you have them in a different position since you also mentioned your guide button not working… top switch should be set to the middle on “DP” and the bottom switch should be switched to the right so that the Guide button is unlocked…

Hey guys im looking into building custom stick here in Australia, i just want a list of parts used to make the fightstick workable for a PS3/PC for the time being and will look into X360 later.

Im going to use Sanwa atm and venture into seimitsu later. So i know the basics but need some help for the remaining parts.

Sanwa JLF Joystick +
Sanwa GT-Y Restrictor Gate
Sanwa JLF-CD Cover
Sanwa OBSF-30 Arcade Buttons

What are the other parts called and how are they connected i guess. Im in australia so parts are harder to find but am happy to order from Lizard stick if needed. I have used these guys in the past and have uber fast delivery (like 1 day air express) http://in2amusements.com.au/index.php?p=home

I know i need the PS3 controller part but am unsure what one and how it all fits. From their i will build a box and the put it together myself. I will be making my onw artwork and getting my own plexi. Will probably base the plexi on the TE/HARp3 stick for now as its the typical fightstick i use.

Yep, that did it. Thank a lot. I’d never bothered using the turbo controls or anything on the part of the stick.

I knew it would. :wgrin:
Laugh.

Hey guys I’m currently building my first custom stick and I have all the parts figured out and measured up all ready to go. My problem is that I don’t know what wires to get to wire it all up. This may seem like a terribly silly question but its really stumped me.

Also where should I get the wire from?

Dinosaurs can you list the parts your using, i dont know what ones to buy. The wiring is a bit further up on this page, all colour coded.

I have a Cthulhu PS3/PC Board. Sanwa JLF-TP-8T Joystick. 6x Seimitsu PS-14-KN 30mm buttons.

What parts to buy will be your preference. Sanwa or Seimitsu are the go to brands.

Also I know how to wire everything. But I don’t know which wire to buy for the buttons.
