Absolute Question and Answer Thread (ASK YOUR QUESTIONS HERE!)

Hmm, so I’ve scanned the forum and the FAQ, and now I’m at a bit of an impasse.

This weekend is Midwest Championships, and I JUST found out that I’ll be able to go. I’m super hyped, but there’s one problem: I don’t have a PS3 compatible stick.

My current stick is an Xbox 360 SE stick with the buttons and stick changed out for Sanwas. Other than going to the tourney and having to beg for a stick for every single game I play, I’d like to get my stick modded to work with PS3s, which (as I understand it) can be done via some soldering.

I’m limited on time, and I’ve never done anything like this before. From conversations with people in the past, most people have told me that all I’d need to do is get a wired PS3 controller, crack the PCB out of it, and solder that to my SE’s PCB. Is that correct?

If not, and if this is more complicated that it sounds, is anyone going to MWC? I’m dead serious that I’d pay someone cash to mod my stick for me on Saturday morning before the tournament starts.

the installation is similar… this’ll help: http://img263.yfrog.com/img263/7899/chimpmadcatz.png … enjoy

Hey all, I bought a HRAP-SA off amazon about 6 months ago, and all was working fine until the last 2 days. The stick would register button presses without me pushing any buttons, like the game would pause, or I’d be doing punches/kicks without touching any of the buttons and just having the stick sit on my lap. Also just recently whenever I’d push the stick left or right it would register the L2 and R2 buttons as well. Is there any thing I can do to fix this?

Is 1920x1080 too small to template up and print on a TE? I feel like I should be looking for art with a massive resolution but this wallpaper I found is just too godlike.

Pic I am referring to, if anyone wants to be a bro and shop it up for me: http://i39.tinypic.com/2igzzhz.jpg

Check to make sure that none of the glue got into the connector holes (e.g. with a needle).

I modded a 360 Madcatz SE Arcade stick with a Sanwa JFL joystick because the stock stick was giving me the “Please Reconnect Controller” message when I did quarter circle motions. For a few months the replacement stick worked perfectly but I’ve started to have the same disconnect issue. Does anyone has a solution? Should I replace the PCB? Please help.

That’s about the size of it. You can also go with something like Toodles’ chimp board, which is probably going to give you a better dual mod (avaiable, for example, at http://www.lizardlick.com/pages/boards.shtml). I’m not sure I’d want to run a last second mod in a tourney though.

What does it mean when the buttons are strictly for metal control panels only? Looking to buy some buttons to toss into a stick i already have and just wanted to know what that meant. Thanks.

it means that for the buttons to stay snapped in, you have to have a metal control panel. They won’t snap into a fully wood panel. If you have a plexi top over wood then it will work, but you should bolt the plexi to the wood.
Snap ins need to snap into a material that is no more than 3mm thick, and plexi can crack if it is that thin but it is possible if it is reinforced with wood. I suggest lexan over wood for snap in buttons.

Can anyone show me how to solder my directions+ground to a JLF? The part that the harness connects to fell off on my JLF after an unfortunate incident involving an incomplete stick, a chair, and some vacuuming.

Edit: Okay I think I figured it out. I should solder the signal to the NO part of the micro switch and COM is the ground? Can I just connect all the grounds together or do I have to do some crap involving cutting the traces like in a may flash mod?

Any tips/videos on how I should go about removing the start and selects buttons from a TE?

Hope I’m in the right thread for this first post…

I’m currently looking into getting a fight stick here in Europe (Belgium), but I haven’t found stores selling a good one for cheap. I found Hori EX2’s for 60? (about 80$) and 45? (60$) second hand. A Mad Catz SE isn’t available here unless I get it shipped from the UK which would cost me a ton of money (as in, I could aswell get a TE from a store).

So today this option showed up: I found someone (a presumably good fighter in most fighting games) who recently bought a TE stick and wants to sell his “old” (less than a year?) SE fight stick modded with sanwa parts & seimitsu balltop. I’m not really a tech genius but I know that it should’ve solved most of the issues.
He’s selling it for 50? (70$), so that’s not too expensive considering prices that sticks go for (imo).

EDIT: Oh yeah, he also told me I’d have to put artwork on it because he removed his (somehow), so does anyone know sites or something where you can find these? I saw that there’s an artwork one here but it seems a bit hard to do, I’m looking for one that fits the SE MadCatz stick and could go with pink/lightblue buttons (and a bubble blue seimitsu, he modded it that way). Not sure if I should care to match art work because that’d be pretty hard to find no?
Anything in the line of SSF4/BlazBlue is fine for me, I love ones with all the characters on it.

I’m wondering, is it really bad to buy second hand or not? Some friends told me “it’ll break soon” or “it’s gonna be completely used by a guy like him” and suggested I should find one brand new, but for now I don’t see where I could get one at a reasonable price. Do note that I also never modded ANYTHING myself so I’d have to get a guide and hope for the best when doing that.

Dunno, it’s pretty late here so I hope I made some sense and that someone can help me :).

First post on the forums ^^

from page 22.

Ah ok so I should avoid those buttons if I’m putting buttons in an EX2 then?

No, it means that you should use those Buttons.

Ah ok. thanks for the help guys.

agetec

I purchased a used agetec. The kick buttons are sticky. Can i easily clean them, or would it be better to just change them out? Which buttons will work without modifying the case. I do not want to dremel or cut on it.

Continuing the question on the snap in buttons. I am building a wooden box for a custom stick. I was going to do the top wood, and from what is mentioned on this page, I should have a 3 mm pice of Lexan bolted on top to snap the buttons into? Or I assume the other option is to buy a set of threaded buttons and then I can have an all wood top?

Second question, if I order a plexi piece from Art’s site, could I use that as my stick top by itself if I buy the full replace piece?

Totally separate question, will Toodles dual mod work on an SE pcb? I believe the SE and TE share the same PCB, but want to make sure.

Thanks!

If im not mistaken, the agetecs use 28mm buttons… so if u don’t want to dremel/file ur button holes to 30mm to fit sanwas or seimitsus then i believe u can use korean Crown buttons… not entirely sure since i have yet to use these buttons but heres a place that sells em by SRK member Laugh: http://www.etokki.com/ArcadeButtons … he also has his own thread if you wanna ask him some questions about the buttons like on quality or wutever (if ur picky over such matter) : http://shoryuken.com/showthread.php?t=223213

In my opinion, i think the threaded buttons would be the easiest to work with for a custom wood case that way you don’t have to worry about what the snap-ins need to snap into lol

If its for a TE, TES, or HRAP then yes you can replace the metal panel with the Plexi Top Panel Replacements.

Yes, you do the same installation.

…hope that helped… enjoy

Cool, thanks.

What I am thinking of doing is buying a full replacement from Art’s site, but then mounting it to a custom box. Really just exploring my options. I’d either do that or make a wood box and purchase the threaded buttons.
