Absolute Question and Answer Thread (ASK YOUR QUESTIONS HERE!)

Oh my god, I freaking love you.

Same here. I think it’s normal, but don’t take my word for it.

I think someone posted about this… said it was the metal ring in the shaft lifting a little bit that causes the noise… to fix they took the shaft off and pressed down on the metal ring to flatten it out… then the noise stopped… I havent had this problem so I wouldnt know more about it…

Thanks a lot! Followup questions:

  1. The joystick you linked me to says it comes without the “Sanwa JLF-H 5-Pin Wiring Harness.” Do I need to buy this, or should I be fine with what I already have?
  2. I don’t think I quite understand what you said about getting JLF-TE cables. Is this what that wiring harness is?

I wanna try some seimitsu buttons and was wondering if the sanwa OBSF microswitches can fit in the PS-14-K buttons if I dont like them?

JLF-H is for using Sanwa JLF in a Custom Arcade Stick that requires soldering the JLF-H to the PCB.
The Mad Catz TE already has a Joystick Wire Harness for the JLF that has connectors.
Connectors for both Joystick end and PCB end.

But the TE Joystick Wire Harness does not use correct connector for JLF.
So the connection to Joystick is not good.

Toodles sell his JLF-TE, which is Joystick Wire Harness for the Mad Catz TE.
This Wire Harness uses the correct mating JST Connector to go to the Joystick.

No more bad connection.

Yes.

  1. Well, depends. There is a black set of wires in your SE that plug into the main board, and the other end plug onto the 5 pin connector on the stick. The part that plugs into the stick is the wrong type of connector and can fall off, so they hot glued the connector to the stick. You’d have to break that glue to remove the connector from the existing stick, which risks it falling off of the new JLF unless you hot glued it. The harness you linked to does have the proper part to connect to the joystick, but the other end is just wires; it doesnt have the connector to plug into the SE board. You could cut the existing ribbon, and solder that harness to it, but I suspect that is work you’d rather avoid. Your two easiest choices would be to either use the black wires already present in the stick and hot glue it to the JLF when you install it, or purchase the JLF-TE ribbon from gdlk.co.
  2. That thing has the proper JLF connector on one end, and bare wires on the other. The JLF-TE cable has the proper JLF connector on one end, and the proper TE/SE pcb connector on the other. The cable that comes in the SE/TE stick has the proper TE/SE pcb connector on both ends, which isn’t the proper connector on the stick end, so its hot glued in place.

(I know this has been answered twice already, but 1000 words and all that.)
The stick has a JST connector on the PCB, like this:

http://i1112.photobucket.com/albums/k482/Icy_Black_Hand/JSTConnector.png

But the cable Madcatz uses doesn’t have a JST connector, so it doesn’t have that extra tab to latch onto the stick’s connector. Toodles sells a replacement cable that has the proper mating connector (right side of the linked picture) so it will latch on.

So the problem may be that shaft that’s lifting up abit as I press down, but is that easily fixed, or will the joystick break or start malfunctioning if ignored? I’m thinking about contacting madcatz about it, but I don’t know how reliable their customer service is, I’m afraid they might make the condition on the stick worse >_<! it’d be cool if they could just send me a new one

  1. I have a brawl stick , where do I buy joysticks from?
  2. evo cant say anything about the skin i put on my stick right? (i want it to say “Fuck Gaming”)
  3. And just where can I buy buttons and stuff.
  4. The BrawlStick is as easy as the SF:SE edition right? (Modding wise)

Focus Attack.
VideoGamesNewYork.
Paradise Arcade Shop.

I don’t know EVO.

Yes.

Thanks alot bro.

  1. focusattack.com
  2. I haven’t seen any rules about that…but if someone says something I’d just cover it up with tape.
  3. focusattack.com
  4. It’s basically the same. Pcb inside is a little different, but as far as changing out a stick and buttons, it’s exactly the same.

edit: beaten by jdm again…lol

So recently my stick has been having a few problems. It’s a dual modded PS3 MvC3 TE.
Was dual modded with a gamestop 360 common ground pad.

This is all 360 problems btw:
For a while it would just disconnect while i was playing, then cut back on.
More recently it would continously hold the Up direction.
Now it has not been recognizing it at all in my 360 and PC.

I’ve been getting this when plugging into my pc:

I went back and re-soldered everything onto the toggle switch, but to no avail.

I have probably the worst camera ever right now, so pic would be too blurry to make out anything.
Just curious as to what could possibly be the problem, and i can go from there i guess.
Worst comes to worst i needed a new stick anyways.

Where do I find a good lag-free PS3 to 360 converter?

Do OSBN-30’s fit in the HRAPV3 Vewlix layout? I am worried about the nuts making them not fit.

It’s a better investment to dual-mod, or have someone dual-mod it IMO.

2 questions:
i)are there any good controller pads that work good for both ps3 and xbox? (price range)?
ii) if i have a ps3 pad but want to use it on a xbox 360 whats the best type of converter (with no input lag) out there? (price range?)

I have a question, I have a PS2 Dual Shock A as in this picture by Slagcoin:

Why does it states “Avoid” to do a padhack? Is it just for the too-close solder points? Or there are other problems? It is okay to work with it?

And another question: There is one point for a resistor. Do I need to solder one resistor in that point? If so, where the other end of the resistor goes? I’m assuming that I don’t have to solder anything in that point.

So if I wanted to make my own custom stick, what would I need as far as all of the parts go? I don’t need a tutorial on how to build one or anything, this is just a shopping list.

So far I have:

Joystick
PCB Board
Buttons
RJ45 connector
Case

Is there anything that I’m missing? I’m sure I’m missing some little pieces somewhere.

I just want to add everything up on Focusattack and see if it’s worth pursuing right now.

If you’re doing an MC Cthulhu mod, you’ll modular jacks as well, joystick harness if you go JLF or Seimitsu XX-01, quick disconnects .110 for buttons and .187’s for joystick if using microswitch version. Wire obv…
