Absolute Question and Answer Thread (ASK YOUR QUESTIONS HERE!)

I bought a handful of these screws from Home Depot to replace the stock screws in many sticks, which are often chewed to hell from the factory.

I asked Per if he sold the actual screws used in arcade CPs, and he seemed clueless where to even get them. Do arcade CPs even come with them?

Anyway, they should be #4-32 x 1/4" and they work beautifully. Home Depot sells them in tiny baggies down the hardware aisle, in a drawer labeled “machine screws”.

edit: metric would be M4 x 6mm or 8mm.

Thanks a lot, VMS!

Noob Multi-Mod Question Time!

Ok, i want to grab a DualStrike/TEasy combo for the time being. Quick and ‘simple’ dual modding option for my TE.

Will it be a somewhat easy swap out the DS if i want to throw in an MC Cthulhu at a later date? (easy, as in, i didn’t kill the possibility a swapout by putting in the DS first, right?.. i know i’ll have to solder a little for the Cthulhu, and i know that won’t be full on ‘easy’ for a first time MC mod. But a swap can happen?)

Also, with the MC Cthulhu, are there RJ45 mods prebuilt to purchase? Or will i have to do the RJ45 mod to the MC Cth myself?
(i’ve done minor checking, but i’ve been seeing a lot of the USBs for sale, not the 45s.)

Thanks guys

There are no MC’s with built in RJ-45s. What most folks do is take an ethernet cord, cut off an end, and solder the eight wires to the grid, and plug the other end into a neutrik jack. A TEasy would make the job easier since you wouldn’t have to solder to the TE board, but there would definitely be soldering involved, plus you’d have to throw in an Imp as well.
If you’re saving the MC for later, I aught to have a solderless option for you in the Kitty available for you before too long that’ll do what you want and a bunch more.

Wildwon, yeah Toodles is correct. If you want a dual mod for now using the combo, and then swap later it wouldn’t be terribly tough. All it would require to remove the DS is a simple unplug of the ribbon cable and unscrew of the USB line. It would definitely require a little bit of soldering (5-6 lines maybe?) and the addition of an Imp. It would still alleviate having to touch the TE PCB though, just slice off the DS end of the ribbon cable and peel/strip for screw terminal access. If you go the TEasy/MC/Imp route, post up some pics though, I think they’ll play well together .

No idea what the Kitty will offer, so I can’t speak on that one :rofl:

Ok, so TEasy + DS = easy.

Then, later, i can snag an MC and an Imp down the road, remove the DS, and the others will go w/ no major problems (harder due to soldering).
(only repeating what was said to make sure i’m understanding this all correctly)
I can live with that.

However, this Kitty thing intrigues me. What is that?

Fill me in with whatever you can. (i am really up for doing these things, it’s just time an money that’s holding me back. My ambition is strong! ;))

My friend and I are looking to mod a Hori Tekken 5 PS2 stick with a HAPP bat-top stick we have. Is this feasible or does the stick only accommodate Japanese sticks?

What places plan on selling the PS360 PCB?

Toodles, you’re scaring me with this Kitty talk… I’m afraid to buy MC Cthulhus because I want to know what it is before I buy anything lol

Same! I was totally going to ChImp a Fighting Stick VX, but now I’m waiting to find out what Kitty is…

I hope its a Bengal, Bengals are god tier cats.

Sooo, after some searching/talking i’m going TE/DS first, then, later, maybe MC/Imp or Kitty. We’ll see where that leads

New questions! I’ve only purchased an octo online. The one item i’ve ordered is from Lizardlick. I know, for plexi, i’m going through art (later) but…

  1. For TE/DS should i just order from the dude (sorry i don’t remember your name.) or is there another/better source? Or is there a place i can order other things (along with TE/DS) and do one ship rate? (i don’t wanna waste monies, but i don’t wanna fuck over anyone either. follow?)

  2. Lizardlick has Sanwa parts. Those are things i want. Is LL the best option for parts? For now, it’ll be all basics to mod SE to all sanwa+octo. Are their buttons all sold single? I see Madcatz does two at a time for a buck or two more… but should i go there? or would it be kosher to go more ‘local?’ (non corporate) tl;dr? Opinions on where to buy parts, please.

  3. And one for far off future- Are the bubbletoppers ALSO the ones used in LED Seimitsu sticks? (i.e. if i buy a purple bubbletop for what will be Wife®’s stick {hopefully getting se on fri to start work. she wants her own stick (woot!)to… wait for it… learn MvC2. squee} due to it’s hot look… will i be able to use the same balltop if i want to light it later? {yes, with a hollow shaft. heh.})

Hope that makes sense.

Aaaaaaand, Thanks!

Dual Strike only available from the creator, bencao74.
Or from Phreakazoid187 when you buy TEasy Mod, if he has Dual Strike in stock.

Price is for one Button.
Lizard Lick and AkihabaraShop.jp site.

Some LB-39 have plugged end, which you will need to drill for light to shine.
Some have open end, so you do not need to drill for like to shine.
Lizard Lick knows this difference, and will get right if you ask.

Quick question:
Are there any places to buy arcade parts that provide free shipping? Sometimes I just want to buy four or so pushbuttons and the shipping is almost as much as the buttons themselves.

Trade forums you might get lucky and find the type of button you are looking for but as far as sites I think they all charge shipping. Ponyboy has a good set of buttons on the trade forums that is pretty good but they aren name brand sanwa/shemitsu

edit:nvm I think he charges too

sorry want to ask, which one is better Mad Catz TE round 2 or S edition or HRAP V3 SA
and i want to dual mod ,how i get dual mod PCB

Thanks for quick reply.

Where do you live?
Mad Catz is having sale right now.

Only difference Round 2 TE and TE S is the obvious aesthetic look; color and length and art.

Round 2 TE has Regular Art, while TE S has Full Art (except Chun-Li TE S, which has Regular Art).
TE S has Lock Switch that locks Guide/Home in addition to Start Back/Select.
Round 2 TE has Lock Switch that locks Guide/Home.
Round 2 TE has Sides, while TE S is Slim Sides.

Dual Mod you have to do yourself.
Or get Service from someone like me.

Brethren, I’m wondering if someone can high level walk me through a dual mod using the advertised teasy. I’ve watched all the youtube vids so not the step by step, but there is just some basic fundamental things I’m not understanding.

Want to take advantage of the socal sale but instead of getting ps3 stick, want to get the xbox since all my friends play xbox locally (I’m the only idiot on ps3).

wires to consoles: will there be 2 or 1?
toggle switch: how does the mod know if your playing on 360 or ps3
ps3 buttons: will start/select, turbo and home buttons work for ps3 assuming i mod a xbox TE?
what is my TOTAL parts needed and cost (minus wire tools)?

I’ve gathered i need a teasy and a ps3 pcb. I keep reading something called a dual strike. Is that confusing with dual shock as in the controller? I have a SE for ps3. Can i use that pcb?

What if i get the ps3 TE instead? Will it be just as easy to mod in the xbox pcb?

Please Help a noob out who wants to level up his controller AND before the sale ends.

TEasy goes out to a ribbon cable. It only works with Xbox 360 version. It would work with dual modding to a PS3 SE PCB. But you would have to solder, which defeats the purpose of using TEasy. If you did this, you would either have 2 USB cords or using a DPDT switch.

What you want is either ChImp SMD or DualStrike. They are both solderless, and they both don’t require you to have a switch. DualStrike can be installed with the ribbon cable from TEasy with one single plug of a double-ended ribbon cable. ChImp SMD requires you to cut the double-ended ribbon cable, then strip the wires, match it up with the proper screw terminal on ChImp SMD, and screw it on. Most people go with Dual Strike.

The pro of DualStrike is that it is easier. The con is that it doesn’t have system Auto Detection. You must hold a button down on the TE when it is powered on to switch the board’s mode. ChImp SMD has Auto Detection, but is slightly more difficult. Both are solderless.

Don’t get PS3 TE, you cannot use TEasy with it.

Everything will work with the PS3, except for Turbo. But you shouldn’t rely on Turbo. A lot of tourneys ban Turbo button use.

Parts needed?

360 TE?$100, assuming Round 2
TEasy v1.2?$34
Dual Strike PCB?29.95 Euros, from benaco74, but he is in Europe. I know Phreakazoid (Seller/maker of TEasy) sells these himself with his TEasys, you’d have to ask for how much this would cost from him to get both
OR
ChImp SMD?$35

thanks button

could you elaborate on this though? “Hold a button when you power on” If I’m at a local constantly swapping in and out of consoles, how does that work exactly? I didn’t think the TE had a “power button”
