About time.... (Reno thread)

I want to know what you consider “basics”? I have my own idea, but I think everyone wants to hear what you have to say about it.

Hey, I’m just a guy who plays tekken. But what Rob said is true. There’s a Jin player down in Vegas who he just described to a T. Unfortunately, his learning curve was greatly changed by copying what he saw in videos.

Sure, it’s not the ‘do it because it is the correct way of doing it’ way of learning an art, but it is a way. Learning by mimicry is just some people’s style. Get good fast, then learn the basics.

I’m not out to make any enemies in this town, so whatever I have just said, ignore me.

P.S. Are your guys’ arcade night on a friday or a saturday?

Avarus: We usually hang out (in greatest numbers) on Saturday, around 8:30-11:00.

Hehe… Flaming… just as I thought some people would react… I’m surprise that the first one came from u Chris… of all people I thought u would be one that would agree with me and of what I have to say…

This is my first disagreement… Winning tourney doesnt mean u’re the best… shoot… U’ve only face me twice in a tourney one time i took u to the losers… and yes even though u took me out later on… the last tourney I took you out again… Dont give me this IM THE BEST… cause its not a Round Robin… and the last time we had a Round Robin in Reno… U didnt beat me either… so my win lost ratio vs u tells it all…

24 Hrs?? please Im saying in the span of 5 months u’re telling me u’ve only played a total of Pot 24 hrs… dood Toureny practice and my home alone u’re already racked up more than 24 hrs.

To say that u’re Pot has not been influenced by match vids is just a lie… u’re style of Pot is the same as everyone else… u learn a technique u see its strength and weakness and u use it… I admit in doing it and so should everyone else… to say that the Pot u have is YOUR OWN STYLE is just a lie… get over it… u’re influenced by match vids as much as everyone else…

Chris u gotta realize the original post wasnt directing towards u specifically… it was to every player…

That great that u’re taking note on how to beat Johnny… hopefully u find the counter…

But do u know why Nick, JC, and everyone else plays different toward you… dood its not like OMG its CHRIS… its OMG its POT… he grabs me Im dead… im not saying that its your fault but…

thats what that think… even though its the wrong way to think of it… i seriously believe thats the reason why they play different towards than anyone else… and when most player change their style they become less sucessful…

You’ve just proven my point on what I mean by players needing to know how to play the game… MASHING ON GRABS isnt something you should be proud of… If ure doing moves u have no clue if its coming out… then u’re flat out not a good player yet… YES thats right even though u can win as many tourney as u want… u can still NOT be a good player…

Lets be serious for a moment u were never a threat to me or JP in CvS2 ever… the reason u’re winning now… is that both me and JP dont even play the game… dont think for a moment u’re better than both of us in that game… beside u play Xbox live… yes… yes its a different game… but u’re still viewing the game and playing the game… and that helps…

About what u said about Pot… u’re right… and that was my original intention for writing that post…

Heh… I was never undermining Andrei ability… but his Johnny is nowhere near the ability to pose a threat to u’re (6 Reno tourney win)“knowledgable” Pot… to say that his Johnny was good only goes to futher my point that Reno needs to look at themselves and think what they should consider good and not…

Thats exactly my point… NO… it should never be the case… tricks or not a few hr old character should never be able to beat a character u or anyone else say that they are compitent with…

Ok… I dont play CvS2 seriously since Evo 2k2… As for VF4 ur right… and I say we are scrubs at VF4… maybe worse… that is my point with GGXX if a person can win with a character without putting any time into him… then everyone should still consider themselves as scrubs…

YES THAT WAS THE POINT OF THE ORIGINAL POST

O_o; Round 1, Fight! (Insert Sol vs. Ky song) :open_mouth:

hopefully she got some teeth

omg reno peeps dont fight !! =(!! go listen to some obie trice

ruiN! ;__; Teach me your eddie icon skills! >O

My $0.02 since this is getting out of hand. First off, if you actually read the post you’d understand where Rob’s comming from. Ya’ll may think shit he’s talking shit about me on how I lost, stop for a minute and ask yourself. How did I lose to Andrei? What did he do that I can’t do what I normally do? Those are the questions that should be lingering on your head instead of saying…

Flame Rob back? Haha that’s just funny. I never knew that you, Chris, of all people would actually feel that way towards that post. The post didn’t really target one particular person, it was pointing out to everyone (INCLUDING MYSELF MIND YOU). Should you take it in a different way, then you are not understanding where he’s really comming from.

God damn, I guess you have the right to “flame back”. I guess with you getting “6 LOCAL 1ST PLACE” is enough for you to take that post in the wrong direction. See this is what I’m pissed off about everyone here that actually either started out or finally started winning tourneys. WTF, can’t you guys take anymore fucking criticism’s? You aren’t the only one that has acted towards Rob (or me for that matter) in these situations. JC for one is a prime example and so is Paul. Just cause you guys have done better than me and Rob totally goes straight to your head and then acts as if you guys are the shit already. If you, Chris, ask when did you say that here’s the part if you may forget about it…

Easily eh? I don’t know, Dizzy was the only character that I did really horrible with you clearing me 3-0 and the last 2 matches ended up with going either way. If you think well I’ve beaten you 4-1, 4-2 that only happened in 2 tourney’s, and yea i aggree you beat me fair and square and I never have said anything bad about it, but to put it as “EASILY” wtf you claiming you’re better than me? If you don’t remember all our matches end up going either way. Even when you beat me 4-1 in the finals, it was never a blow out win on those matches. Even when you say well everytime he wins he doesn’t face me. You’re right, I don’t, but why is that? 2 times that you lost, “INCLUDING THIS ONE”, you lost to people that are supposedly “BELOW” your rank, and since you “EASILY” do better than the rest of us, why does that happen? I guess blame it on human nature? On once a person actually achieves success that he finally dis-regards every single critcism’s. Flame? Take it whatever you guys want, to me he just made me see what’s happening and why it’s happening. Flame on? Flame Off? Whatever the fuck. This thing was just waiting for it to come out, and finally it does.

JP

???

I hope all this flaming is not a result of what happened on Saturday night. Can’t we all just get along? Let’s work on our game and learn off each other. Reno crew ain’t much of a team if we get divided. But wait, is it really detrimental to our growth if such a thing happened? Hmmmm…I don’t know. Let’s see what happens.

I agree with Rob, I copy some moves from Taki videos, and not knowing why the person use it. Then whenever I try to do that move, it always never works out. Anyways the basics are the key to any fighting game. Like I can beat any newbie at SC2 by choosing any character in game, or even Charade because i know the basics. I guess that’s the same for GGXX, and I got to work on my GGXX basics.

Blahhhhhh EDIT: I aggree with Rob.

That was basically what I wanted to say. :stuck_out_tongue:

Hey NICK

if you could, keep playing SC2. I would hate to leave the current standings as they are. Practice up, i’ll sure to even things up with you and everybody else. Let the rivalry begin.

Hey NICK

Bring it, Andrei.

promises to himself to learn Taki this week.

You serious? Or are you joking. Read the post, then maybe you’ll understand where Rob’s comming from. Read what Chris said and what Rob said afterwards. Then you’ll know why Rob had to answer it that way.

JP

Ok you guys gotta realize no one is flamin anyone in a sense. Rob (in my eyes) is showing us our faults and tryin to HELP us. He thinks we should learn the basics all over again and apply them. This doesnt apply just to GGXX though. All games that we play (chessy saying) we have to find a deeper understanding for.

I back rob up in this situation. I dont know maybe im just blabbering but im gonna make the hardest attempt to stop making up excuses. I guess you can say i started this week with not saying much during me and chris’ match but i didnt do so hot with me and nick c.'s match cause i didnt understand what happened but if it had made sense i would have taken it and rolled with it but hey what are you gonna do whats done is done and much props to nick c.

We all need just go back to what it was, having fun and learning from each other. Or maybe i learned from you guys and you just learned how to beat me. I dont know im going to sleep damnit…

I have to go to school so ill make this short. Dont go dude its aint worth it to quit. Its not like anyone hates you or anything its just everyone wants to beat you so they can get a first i quess i mean i for one have no hatred or animosity towards you what so ever. I dont know what paul, rob and jp think but im pretty sure they dont hate you either bro

nonononono, I’m AGGREEING with Rob. I think he has a good point.

NEVA!!! =)!!!

I’ve been learning and playing VF4 Evo, even playing the old school Samurai Spirits and all this stuff happens.

Rob has several good points that he posted on here and IMO I don’t even feel that my Dizzy is still not as good as I think it is as far as my technique goes. However I have been improving my tactics and techniques with Dizzy ever since I lost to Dan’s Axl at the 707 Tilt. I already know the reason why I’ve been losing to Dan’s Axl and it’s the fact that it’s a pain in the neck to even get close to his Axl only to get hit by the long range pokes. Therefore my Dizzy is at an complete disadvantage through the entire match when it comes to playing against a good Axl.

The only time that I ever saw GGXX vids was when JC was showing me the SVGL vid at his place and that was it. But I never really watch any of the video game vids at all because I’m the type of player that actually trys to play the games and figure out all the stuff on my own. A little help from other gamers I do appreciate, espiecally if I didn’t know that it could be done or I just missed a part of the gameplay that actually works for the players. I’ll tell ya guys one thing that I did just realize and this part about Dizzy’s air throw suprised the hell out of me.

Against the corner, Dizzy’s air throw will burst the bubble creating a two hit combo. There is two way’s that I thought up on as far as combo setups goes. Either way when Dizzy lands only her s.K will connect otherwise opponent has excellent chance of recovery. With Dizzy I can either jump cancel the s.K into an air combo or actually cancel the s.K into Ice spike FRC and that goes on. It’s the little parts that I find by myself is what pleases me mainly because I know that I’m somehow improving myself as a player hopefully.

I wouldn’t know though. Half the time my posts make no sense at all when it comes to players becoming better or if were truly good players however whenever I get a chance to go back to Reno…I have more techniques to show with Dizzy then I did last time. Nowadays with the time that I have remaining all I’m looking for really is to have a good time playing against other players. It’s just really hard for me to find that time to go to the tourneys.

Paul Sakura: Is it true that you are Reno top elite Avatar masta? Did you make NickY’s old school cheat av?

I want to make an av of Homestar enjoying a cold one. It’s from the Homestar theme cartoon. Do you just have to do a ctrl+print screen while it is playing and then edit it? Or are there more advanced techniques at play?
