totally. o soto gari, mount, GnP, lifts him up and do a crucifix in the air!
Maybe if you shortened his dash by one frame? It would make that a 2 frame link, and possibly allow for more mixups (I dunno if that would allow other moves to be linked there?).
I’d also suggest a buff for ex fs. It’s not very useful at the moment and if Abel had a totally invincible anti-air, but had to burn metre for it every time he wanted to use it, I don’t think that would push him over the top.
Beautiful!
1 frame faster dash would be kinda cool. That would also allow for linking c.mp, and would make the c.fp easier.
the only real use I’ve found for EX sky fall is to beat demon flip throws from Akuma and Gouken.
1 frame faster dash would be sick, but would probably make Abel too good
Am I the only person that likes the singlet (alternate outfit)?
As far as changes, I think the only thing he needs is a boost in health. Not a huge one, but just enough so that he can actually take a hit. I mean, for what I perceive as a defensive character, he sure has a glass jaw.
I like the singlet. Could be because I’m a wrestler.
I think his health is fine.
Abel already has 1100 health… That’s not a glass jaw at all.
Anyway… I’m not reading this whole thread.
I only have one request. Speed up his sweep. That’s it really.
He actually has that much? I would have figured it was less, considering how much damage he tends to take.
That’s the point though… he actually doesn’t take much damage.
You just must be getting hit a lot…
Really? With all of Abel’s problems that you highlight you think a faster sweep will do?
Not disagreeing with you, just would like you to elaborate please.
abel is alright the way he is just a few lil things i would want CoD to be a bit better and his normals, besides that everything else is fine IMO
Uhh Abel takes hits all day. His stun is pretty decent also.
It would be nice for Abel to have a 4 frame c.jab. 4 frame c.short would be broken, but 4 frame c.jab needs to happen.
Well, I’ve posted about this before, but I think that Abel is one tool away from being way too good. If you improve on Abel’s shortcomings, he just becomes a ridiculous character, IMO. One simple change can make his options way too scary.
All of his options play into all of his other options, so if you make one thing too good, it throws off the rest of the character. I can’t think of any change to Abel that would be a “small” change. If you let him link into low strong, Abel becomes waaaaaay too good. If you speed up TT, or take down some of it’s recovery… that move is waaaaaaay too good. If you give him a great AA, he can now hold his ground too effectively for a character that is trying to get in his opponents’ face (well, kind of) anyway.
As it stands, I think Abel’s biggest weakness is his inability to fight at all from mid range. His lack of good reversals is a problem, but only because he’s so bad at mid range. If he was good at mid range, it would make it harder for characters to get in on him (either via knockdown, or by getting into a range that’s hard for Abel to AA, since they can just walk right in on him), and exploit his lack of reversals.
He’d still have the issue of having shitty reversals, but he wouldn’t have such a big issue that leads directly into it. So if I let my opponent in on me, I should have to pay the price, because I had good tools to prevent that.
As it stands, Abel has mediocre tools to prevent situations that exploit his most blatant weakness, his lack of reversal options. I think that should change. I think giving him a faster sweep would make Abel a much, much better character, but wouldn’t make him just stupid.
I think making Rekka -2 on block could be another option to help out that wouldn’t be completely retarded.
I mean… what else could Capcom give him that wouldn’t cause him to dominate, or become a completely braindead character?
I like the fact that Abel can’t link into a meaningful cancelable normal unless he’s super point-blank. It prevents him from becoming, as HAV said, braindead (and too good, since any low short = untechable knockdown and shenanigans off eventual linked CoD). If you want to play a character who can link a special off jabs, there are lots of other characters. If Abel lands a low short, he can chain together a below-average combo ending with standing short, or he can set up a frame trap, which suits Abel’s game plan better. It keeps him an interesting character.
I don’t like CoD being -2 on block as much as I like a faster sweep. I think CoD -2 on block is too good… a (virtually) safe on block move that leads to ultra, which can now be easily hit-confirmed off any jump-in with no penalty. A faster sweep is a more interesting change to Abel because it gives him a dangerous footsie threat at mid-range, so characters like Akuma aren’t as confident just walking straight up into Abel’s face and starting st.HK nonsense. It gives untechable knockdown, which lets Abel set up some mixup, which follows the Abel M.O. better than a safe on block special.
HAV’s CoD idea imho seems on point.
these are the specifics of what I’d directly change on their 1st hits
lp.CoD dmg=30*; startup= 13 frames; recovery= 28 frames; adv block= -6; adv hit= -1
mp.CoD dmg=40; startup= 15 frames; recovery= 26 frames; adv block= -4; adv hit= +1
hp.CoD dmg=50; startup= 17* frames; recovery= 24 frames; adv block= -2; adv hit= +3
ex.CoD dmg=40*; startup= 13 frames; recovery= 24 frames; adv block= -2; adv hit= +3
*= stayed the same
notes
-lp faster than some FBs; is 1 frame faster (and safer on block or hit) than before
-mp gets +5 dmg buff; is 1 frame faster (but a frame less safe on block or hit) than before
-hp gets +10 dmg buff; is just as fast (but a frame safer on block or hit) as before; may need 18 frame startup
-Ex gets… lp start up, with mp dmg and hp recovery; not to mention armor
Who is that supposed to be?
I freely admit, yeah, I get hit a lot. It comes from how I learned to play SFII back in the day: Never block, always be on the offensive.
…it doesn’t work all the time.
I literally had to relearn how to play SF with IV because I was just getting smoked because I would never block.
HAV, I know it would be a lot of work on your part for absolutely no compensation (besides maybe some e-High Fives), but I’d really like to see your proposed changes for all the characters. After reading your beefy post here, it seems like you are one of the few folks readily willing to have your main or favorite character NOT be good at everything.
Of course, you’re not obligated to do it… I’m just curious as to what you’d suggest.
and my edit to CoD for Infil’s tastes (*= stayed the same)
lp.CoD dmg=30*; startup= 13 frames; recovery= 28 frames; adv block= -6; adv hit= -1
mp.CoD dmg=40; startup= 15 frames; recovery= 26 frames; adv block= -4; adv hit= +1
hp.CoD dmg=50; startup= 16 frames; recovery= 25* frames; adv block= -3*; adv hit= +2*
ex.CoD dmg=40*; startup= 13 frames; recovery= 24 frames; adv block= -2; adv hit= +3
and are you suggesting a 10 frame start up fro cr.HK?
a rejected abel concept.
not so ninja edit:
:d: so 23 frames of recovery on ex?
ex.CoD dmg=40*; startup= 13 frames; recovery= 23 frames; adv block= -1; adv hit= +4
hmm… then his ex.CoD hitstun would need to change to prevent TT on hit; but that is a nice mix up option if you don’t have Ultra.
