They are not saying that the current input shortcuts will be removed, they are saying that they will not be adding special move input mapping like TvC where you can actually map an entire special move to one button.

I do agree…easy inputs aren’t the greatest, but if they keep the casual fan base playing the game…that is good for us in the long run.

I demand an air throw, a Charging Star Shoulder Dash, and a todo-esque counter throw

OMFG Abel would be so fucking insane if he had even a low tier air throw.

But his jump fierce is so damn good air to air…he does ok in the air as it is. I can only think of a few jumping moves that will beat that one.

All I want is for them to fix the shortcuts so I get FS when, and only when I want it. Any other improvements would make Abel god tier.

My wish is for Abel to murder Gief, but in actuality there is nothing they can do with hurting everybody else.

Maybe they could the F-MK link to s.HP 3 frames instead of the one, but then I would never miss my combos.

Able is fine the way he is for the most part. I just hate Gief.

I would love it if F+Mk to s.Hp was 3 frames, but I reckon it would overpower him because you’d have to have a higher hitstun (as is my understanding) so it’d make Abel much, much stronger. as for the Abel/Gief matchup, I think it’s neccesary, gief dominates at closerange, and while Abel does have some midrange options, close range is where he does most damage, and gief should always beat him out.

The gief matchup is pretty hard. I tent to rely on well spaced wheel kicks, I try to bait and punish lariat, and I almost never try to get in his face and throw or TT him.

Standing light kick is one of Abel’s best pokes in the gief matchup, but lariat will destroy it, so you have to really play carefully. If you can bait an punish a few lariats and get them worried about using it on reaction, then you can start to carefully poke him.

But its a really bad match no matter how you look at it.

Definitely shouldn’t open up the f.mk->s.hp frames. Takes away the whole difficulty level of playing Abel. But as juicebox mentioned a while back (I think it was him), either make s.hp hit crouching people or make f.nk->s.mp possible. Id rather see the former but either is cool.

Gief is just going to always suck. Let’s face it, it’ll just always be a shitty matchup just like gief vs sagat is a shitty matchup. I’d definitely like them to fix something for the akuma matchup though.

All this talk of “Abel must not get this move because he will be op” is moot, there’s absolutely no point thinking in terms of SFIV, it’s going to be a new game. The Gief & Akuma matchups are shitty as they are now if Abel isn’t buffed sufficiently they will only get worse because Gief & Akuma WILL be getting buffed. Opening up fwd mk > s.fp isn’t neccesarily going to be op in SSFIV, i’m not advocating this but all this talk of him being op if he gets X,Y or Z is retarded. Thank God Capcom won’t be taking any notice of this thread because if they did Abel would end up being the shittiest character ever.

Anyone have any ideas on possible buffs or sensible new moves that would fit his playstyle that they’d like to see in SSFIV, I mean isn’t that really what this thread should be for ?

Well I think his roll could be a tad better this time around as well, I’m using ex TH as an AA now and its working pretty well. I still think Abel is a pretty decent guy.

I think it would be great if Abel’s RH wheel kick had just enough invulnerability in the MIDDLE of the move so with tight timing (2-4 frames) you could use it to go over fireballs for the punish.

If the timing was tight, it would be a nice addition and not so OP because it would be really hard to pull off.

But I’m not sure what other consequences this change would have and for all I know it might break certain things.

Abel got problems but a fireball ain’t one: great jump, great F dash, Marseilles, Super and of course Ultra.

For Gief and Akuma, Abel needs a better poke or footsie tool:
-Some say make sweep faster, i’d like that.
-Or maybe lil’ faster on standing rH kick(i know it might be borderline) or st regular MK, if st. rH keep the same recovery
-cr MP and cr MK are good enough, specially with the fact that they can take you to the Souless land

and Most match-ups Abel’s problems usually come from bullying normals.

Make Abel’s crouching hit box less retarded is all I ask, so when I sweep people I don’t get hit by their standing hk’s or lariats, since that shit doesn’t make sense to begin with. Make Ex Roll throw invincible or get rid of it, its fucking worthless. Tell me why Ex Roll is better than his other options as it is right now and I will reconsider.

EX Roll is one of the best “get out for almost free” options in the game, after teleports. :confused:

Making it throw invincible would make it -the best- get out for free option in the game. And that’s just not good news.

Why use it? Yeah the its fast and what ever, but as Abel don’t you want to be in your opponents face? So your trapped in the corner and you Ex Roll, and get thrown and waste meter on what could have been a Ex TT or a potential Super. How often is anyone finding themselves using EX Roll as opposed to his other specials?

Make it throw invincible and either make it go real far or not far at all. Then for shits and giggles let you waste another bar to cancel it but only the ex version lol.

The thing is teleport doesn’t cost meter & the characters with teleports mostly have several other options on wake-up, with Abel your opponent knows that you don’t really have another reliable option so it’s easier to get baited which means a throw or worse & puts you back in the same position. Maybe they could make it faster, it would also be good to have the option of doing lk-mk for a short roll & mk-hk for a long roll or lk-mk for a backwards roll & mk-hk for a forward roll. Another option on wake up or jumpins in general would be to improve his backdash, not massively but enough to create more space & relieve some pressure.

May have been mentioned, but a fully invincible Ex Falling Sky (aka, one that beats every jump-in ever) would be great. Could also be used creatively to avoid certain ultras and whatnot.

Maybe the option to ex-roll backwards would help his get-up game. You’d still get fucked up in the corner but it’d help everywhere else.
