Assuming you’re talking specifically about specials: you can fadc the kick version of the second hit on cod and you can fadc his roll.
He has a lot of normals that you can fadc, such as st.sp, close st.fp, cr.rh, etc…

It’s cool to have a mixed martial artist in the SF ranks. I hear he was based on Fedor. Any truth to that?
Quick Question
Hey I have a quick question about Abel’s EX tornado throw. I was playing a friend in some Abel mirror matches, and a few times when he would get me down on the ground with a throw or something I couldn’t fast wake up, he would go up to me and do a EX tornado throw.
As an Abel player I’m curious, what can an opponent do to get out of an Ex tornado throw used on the opponents wakeup? When it was used against me, and the few times I’ve used it, it doesn’t seem to be counterable. I didn’t seem to be able to jump out of it even if I was holding up the whole time. I guess it’s kind of a n00b question but it’s been really bugging me.
you can throw him out of it or back dash since the first 20 frames of the back dash animation make you invulnerable.
jump straight up is the counter I’m most familiar with. I thought that this works cause it happens to me sometimes when I go for the ex throw on wakeup. Then (if they’re decent) they’ll come down with a kick and combo you while you whiff the throw. backdash works as well, but people online rarely backdash on wakeup in my experience (though I do this all the time and the invincibility can save your ass against abel)
Also, I’m like 90% sure that they can wakeup regular throw you out of it.
edit— whoops busta beat me to it
Is the grab move in Abel’s change of direction blockable? or do I have to counter with a grab? Or does it only block if the I got both of the first moves?
The grab is blockable. Its a mind game move really, they can only block one or the other. If you think they are gonna block standing (if they blocked first and second hit of CoD), use kick so you grab low. mix it up if it gets blocked on first hit.
hey can someone test this out? forgot to post earlier but when i went to the arcades today i was playing a ryu. he did fireball and i did rh wheel kick and it went over the fireball and i hit him ftw. someone mess with the timing of when you have to wheel kick over the fireball. i think it was pretty early but not exactly sure. ive done this several times but i never got the timing down. this can be pretty useful imo. also it we were pretty far.
You have to be basically just outside shoto sweep range and do it hella early, no way you can react to it, you have to predict it.
Haha, I did the same thing today, timing seems very precise though. I did it by accident.
i was not outside shoto sweep range. we were pretty fucking far from each other (i would say about 3/4 of the screen away or like max range for the rh wheel kick), i already used my ultra and we both had no life. i stayed far and he threw a fireball thinking i couldnt do anything so i did rh wheel kick and i got him
You have to predict or be lucky to land it while going over a fireball. I did it it like 4 time out of 20 tries on a human opponent. It’s almost as annoying to land as an anti shoryu EX TT.
I love the tornado throw so much. Walk up to Zangief as he’s waking up, throw him out of the SPD, then sit back and watch him rage. So much goddamned fun.
I have two noob questions:
other than damage and range are there any other differences between the 3 versions of the tornado throw? Like recovery or priority…
Same question about the CoD: when it’s better to use one instead of another?
Thank you
jab = most range most recovery least damage
strong = medium range medium recovery medium damage
fierce = least range least recovery most damage
CoD
jab = fastest start up and longest recovery, and on block you are at -7
medium and fierce are teh same besides damage and they have a 1 frame difference start up.
What is SA3?
Going to post a small video in a couple days showing some kara tornado throw setups. Just don’t expect a lot of production value
edit: After actually sitting down to record some of this stuff, half the stuff I thought would work actually pushes me out of range, so screw it. I thought I had a few good tick setups into it, but I overestimated the range and none of it works.
reelsmartkid: You can kara with low roundhouse but it’s hella hard
you have to go like
:r::df::d::db::hk::l::p:
Forward to down-back doesn’t register a command grab or wheel kick, so you have to press the roundhouse at downback, then jab or w/e at back. If you try it any earlier like at down it won’t come out. Took me a long ass time in training mode to get it with any consistency and even then the range is less than I thought
What are Abels karas? I didn’t know he had any
I don’t know if this is just me, but a lot of the time when i try the tornado throw (usually after mk dash), sometimes his arm just goes right through him and doesn’t grab. I’ve tried fierce and jab, but i still get the same problem. I guess this could be lag im playing on console, but is this happening to anyone else?
you could be doing it too fast after the mk dash. You cant throw people while they are in blockstun.
