Tips for Seth, coming from a Seth/Abel player:
[]Forward j.fp beats a lot of Seth’s jump-ins/jumping fierces. Even if you trade, it will be greatly in your favor. Seth’s j.mp will beat it sometimes, but it’s still worth the risk. In the Jwong v Arturo match, you can see that j.fp was Wong’s best friend. This is Abel’s most important tool at stopping Seth’s runaway. If seth can’t walljump over you, he can’t zone you.
[
]Roll through the sonic booms. Seth cannot throw Sonic Booms at midrange because if you roll in he loses at least 1/4 of his life.
[]No full-screen ultra vs Seth
[
]If you block Seth’s ultra, if you are not on the complete opposite side of the screen, reversal ultra will always hit for massive damage
[]If he jumps in with his dive kick and you’re not just waking up, usually that translates into a free fp Tornado Throw on block.
[
]Cross Seth up on his wakeup. This will make teleporting away harder (because the crossup will mess up his teleport often). You might eat ultra from a good Seth, but being able to keep Seth close to you is worth the risk.

Block his jump-ins and cr.fp and suddenly Seth is close to you and at -2 frame disadvantage. Enjoy your free mixup.
Don’t knock yourself so hard. Just work on your combo execution (getting cr.fp xx fp Falling Sky and normal xx CoD), Abel’s crossup, and blockstrings/tick throws. You’ll level up a million. Then work on CoD FADC ultra and you’ll be set.

Gotta learn to deal with Tick Throws some time!

Did you get my message online regarding some matchup tips against Akuma? I don’t really play him, but I know the basic rundown.

I didn’t mean to come off as pompous or rude, I apologize.

If you need help with any specific matchups, lemme know. We’ll run some matches with me playing a specific character.

And listen to Kikuichimonji’s well of information, it’ll help immensely. A small portion of that applies to the Akuma match-up as well.

Sorry no vids, i’m not claiming to be an abel guru or anything mostly just stating the obvious. Abel simply can’t win by rushing in blindly & overpowering his opponent with high priority moves (he doesn’t have any) nor is he going to win by turtling so a mixture of the two is essential.

The better your defence the harder it will be for your opponent to win, Even if you find some players impossible to beat earn their respect, make them work for it, don’t give it to them.

A lot of players in the vids seem to go from standing around waiting for something to happen (which tells your opponent that you don’t know what to do when you should be telling him that your slippery, unpredictable that you have a plan, that you’re a threat) or chucking out crazy moves (good players will lap that shit up) neither of these put your opponent under any kind of pressure. To win as abel you have to instill fear & self doubt in your opponent (your primary weapon is the tt throw) when this happens it gives you the ability to control the fight.

The minute you control the fight & your opponent is under pressure it takes the pressure off you & it gives you the chance to anticipate your opponent, your reactions & execution should improve. Your AA options should improve, (even falling sky becomes usable) if you chuck out an unsafe recca & stop after the first hit there’s less chance of being punished (chances of a throw after this is greatly increased), there’s less chance of anything being punished, if you do a jump attack (i’m not advocating this) against a dp character who’s not under pressure you should get dp’d 100% of the time if he’s under pressure however this percentage is significantly reduced, if it’s unexpected it’s reduced still further.

Don’t worry about losing for a while & try to beat people with just the focus attack, jabs, shorts, medium kick, tt throw & dash back / forward, no specials, super or ultra it should help you to get some ideas & help you develop your own style.

For instance if you only use back / forward dash, block strings & forward mk for a while regardless of the openings your opponent gives you it will give you an idea of how to stay close & apply pressure, play for a while trying only to block & tech throws (concentrating on your opponents attacks & mixups) only countering after a successful focus attack, try to win by just setting up your tt throw. After a while bring these together add your specials, super, ultra, combos, add mixups & strategies you have picked up along the way & this should help build a basic picture of how to use abel from there it should be easier to define your own style & adapt/refine your strategies. A fight is a series of obstacles to overcome & all obstacles can be overcome, every new obstacle you overcome is a victory in itself & adds to your overall game

You can only get so much from watching videos at some point you should stop copying other people and adapt your own game, even if your execution isn’t great you can still play the right way. Abel must always risk taking damage while trying to get in on opponents so it’s even more important to make sure you learn to protect his health bar, never give up no matter how low your energy gets you can always try to make it harder for your opponent to take that last little bit.

i’m not a great player, there are lots of players on here more qualified than me who may be able to give you specific corrections or advice on beating particular situations or opponents, nothing i have said will gain you victories that’s up to you… but you did ask

my cuz got a 2 pound weight from a sporting goods store and tapped it to the bottom there like 3 bucks. The small curling iron ones.

Glue some lead to the inside of the bottom plate.

I dont know if you were referring to me , but considering you were running off about stuff all abel players know. whatever…

See what you fail to realize is… not everyone plays abel the same.

No all of us play rush down abel or mr.mixup the whole match. Everyone has their specific style they play a character.

After playing Hav , I really think hes so far the person who has the right idea with abel. Some really good games.

Like for example…

Some abel players like to just do a TT after a blocked poke , or a blocked normal for a tick situation. Me on the other hand , I like to j.mk (block) c.lp -> TT… Most abel players just go straight into tt. Also , In regards to Busta, he uses Cr.lpx3 -> s.mk (to put him i range of a TT) then he TT’s. Everyone has shit that they prefer to do and a way they prefer to play, and a way the prefer to set stuff up. Doesnt mean they are playing him wrong.

So I wont sweat you cause I have no idea if you were taking about me or not… so Ill leave the situation alone.

I enjoy playing my turtle abel… I only rush down when I need to and on characters that I have to.

Man , Busta in regards to sticks. I know in japan they have some really cheap stores. Like a friend of mine over there jsut bought a HRAP for like 30 bucks brand new from some cheap store over where hes at. Im probably gonna be getting an XBOX in the coming weeks so I can play some of the xbox people.

I got a strip of little weights that I glued to the bottom of my FS3 real cheap. You can get them at HD or Lowes. Im gonna make a case though because the FS3 is way too small.

hah ya i dont really wanna glue something to the bottom since im a lap player. it will get annoying but thanks for the ideas. ill figure something out heh. enough with the sticks though, back to the vids! sorry bout that hah.

so i just watched that video again with justin wong and arturo(seth). at the end he said he played 30-40 hrs a week!(goddamn) that seemed like A LOT to me.

how much are the rest of you guys playing?

Good lord 30-40 hrs a week? Justin Wong? Does that mother fucker even have a job? I only average like 7 hours 10 hours tops.

im guessing games is his job (not sure cuz i dont know the guy) but i do know that he has made lots of money from playing games and that he sold the sf4 cab he won. i dont even play that much hah. as of right now since i dont have a stick im playing like less than 5 hours a week. i dont have much money to go to arcades so im not playing much right now. once i get my stick back though i will definitely be playing more.

Good lord 30-40 hrs a week?

thats alot

games is his job , he wins with it. So why not just do it?

Okay suddenly I hate Justin Wong.

I’ve got a whole lot of videos of my gameplay in PERFECT HD unfortunately I’m not pro but I think I’m good. (Some of the vids even have custom soundtracks so make sure that you watch)

And here’s a video of when me and the same person from the video above were sucky. Spot the difference between the two.

You need to work on hit confirming. I noticed you do a lot of Cross-jump FADC Rekkas into c.fp when every hit was blocked(the first is what matters). Waste of meter and you could be spending that pressure on a tick TT or block bait.

Your opponents were lackluster, it seems you’re both playing Marvel with the passion you have for airborne fighting. Try to pressure with less jump-ins. I don’t mean to be rude, but both of you really never settled down, always pressing buttons, always doing something like kids on sugar. SF4 is a very defensive game, playing safe would do you some good.

I see you’ve got a few block strings down, now you just need to work on execution and mixups, I saw you miss a few off of launched c.fp, as well as some decent crossups.

i like that you are an average player. It seems to me that at least when you want something to come out it actually does unlike me. On wake ups i always get shoryu’d or some other BS cuz i can never pull off the things i want to.

but i like your vids! even though you arnt super pro player abel you are still better than me haha so i have something to gauge myself to rather than the super abel players out there.

I think you should work on your footwork a bit and not rely so much on jumping in. It’s probably been mention thousands of times before but Abel’s F+MK is really one of his best if not best move. I dunno why the Sagat didn’t just do some variation of DP->Ultra to punish you. Also it seemed like when you actually get close to the Sagat, you just seem to mash w/e jab buttons you had and got a bit reckless. After the 1st 3 rounds, it was pretty evident that the Sagat just loves his DP every time you got close. So instead of just spamming your jab buttons, you should mix in some baits so that you can punish his missed DPs with C+HP -> Blah Blah. I think he used EX-DP most of the time and didn’t even DP->SADC once. It was pretty funny sometimes when you guys got close and it was like a race to see who got out a button spam first :stuck_out_tongue:

Btw: the quality of the videos were awesome!

Those videos are great and i’ve realized i have a lot to learn.
The quality is awesome too, could you tell me please what have you used to record it?
thanks
