Abel Match Videos

Shouldn’t it be
C.lk lp
F.mk
F F?

the OS sweep i usually use is

cr.lk
cr.lk cr.hk

@skybuster - thanks for the advice. sometimes in the corner i guess i just want to keep them there, since being there alone can pressure them to do something to my advantage. though maybe im just playin it a little bit safe. iono, maybe if you point out in which vids, i can explain better since maybe its character specific… as for the f.mk normal throw, yeah i guess in those vids i did TT a lot too but i usually dont straight out use TT unless im feelin ballsy(i guess that day i was)… again, maybe depends on the matchups too sometimes.
the cr.lk will either chain or cr.hk will come out.

Sup guys, been playing some Abel again. Back then, I thought man…this sucks when my reads don’t work out for me (playing as Abel). But then I realized, it’s amazing when reads pay off (as Abel). So I’m playing some Abel again. I’ve been finding more ways to increase the probability of either getting some damage or neutralizing a situation to where I can stay on them.

I hate the Rufus match up man. That pressure is too good. I have a hard time keeping him out and once it starts of getting out. Props though meng.

Maybe I havnt played the rufus matchup too much, but I havent had too much trouble with rufus matchup. I kind of know what works, and what doesnt work.

Before technology of OS crouch techs with heavier buttons and such, Rufus used to rape Abel for free. I don’t think it’s that bad of a match right now. Rufus still gives him problems - good ones should always give Abel problems. But it wasn’t as bad as it used to it. I think Cammy is way worse of a match than Rufus is. Cammy has a reversal twice as fast as EX messiah without meter, and her frame traps are much tighter or looser depending on how they want to set up the CH. Her dive kick is also unique, it hits Abel’s crouch tech fierce as opposed to Rufus’ which just whiffs.

Also, a trick I was trying to land vs Rufus sometime was something I was told a long time ago. If you go neutral (risky), you can avoid double dive kicks and hit the recovery of the 2nd dive kick with cl.fierce into whatever.

Something I picked up from Shiro was neutral jump short vs EX messiah. It hits and resets them, so you can throw it out there. You have to be careful of his j.roundhouse. You can time it earlier to beat his j.roundhouse, and I’m pretty sure you can still beat his EX messiah but you can’t be too early (not as much active frames as you want).

I came up with something in training mode yesterday. I’m pretty sure some player out there was trying to figure something out, too. But anyways, when I knock them down - I do a roundhouse roll, back dash, then U1 vs EX messiah. If you use this setup, they cannot use the somersault ender to beat your ultra. Another thing I am going to try out next time is a chain combo (short jab jab st.short) then back dash and react with U1 against EX messiah. It should work, nearly the same position as the other setup I came up with.

Lastly, vs Rufus, crouch tech with low fierce. When he realizes he can’t double dive kick, he will have to frame trap you or do a delayed throw. You can do EX TT out of those. The reason why you can EX TT a delayed throw, is because reversal EX TT is faster than what a delayed throw would be. If they did a regular-timed through, you’re gonna get thrown out of your EX TT of course. This is something I’ve observed when playing as Rufus vs HAV’s Abel offline in tournaments. I finally understood it when I played as Abel lol.

Also this is maybe the best thing you can do vs Rufus to take control of the match and mind fuck them. It will cost you some life but it’s well worth it. OS cr.jab with cr.round house on his wake up if he dos nothing you jab him away and if he reversal ex jesus kicks you’ll cr.round house, get hit by the start of it, then it will miss over you and then you can dash over to him and attack him with almost anything. This also works with cr.forward aka cr.mid kick. When I found this late in vanilla plus the OS grab cr.fierce it made it advantage Abel.

Hey guys, hows it going? its been a while, i rarely ever look at the forums i finally found a youtube vid of me winning !, cause for some odd reason people post up vids of me loosing to them, that 1 time i dont get why lol but yeah i remember these matches just trying out some set ups/Combos =P i never do take online matches that serious. The ground tech set ups are nice, but i wouldnt recommend it for the simple fact when people fight abel, they’re more worried about your command throw so they rather Hold up/Back dash/Reversal so dont bother with Ground tech, the only type of counter hit i fish out with abel is step kick when we’re playing footsie

I’m learning Chun if you want to play some matches on friday. I’m getting a local SF player who’s trying to learn, and a few SRKers of varying skill this this friday on PSN.

I noticed you whiff a lot of normal throws and don’t do anything about the neutral jump. When you whiff the normal throw, use close fierce and cancel into a short roll. You can step a tiny bit forward or a tiny bit back for another cross-up.

Good shit, though. I like your Abel.

Is this the input guys?

I would check it myself but my xbox got 1 red ring

You input the f+mk during the block stun of the cr.lp, so it would look like this…

:d::lp:
:r::mk:
:r::hk:

If the step kick comes out, the f+hk doubles as the dash input.

Thanks

I understand it is a very very nice option select I’m sure I’ve seen Ryder using it a lot recently without the f.hk though

Yeah, I’m aware of normal throw -> cl.fierce. I just second guess if it will work online or not. I also try to react and step kick back dashes if I see them, too. Normal throw after step kick is godlike. I should be using it more.

yeah… most experienced abel users know about cl.st.hp after a whiffed throw and the opp neutral jump, but sometimes in my case, i realized it a fragment too late(like what, 0.00001 sec late) that theres doubt i can get a clean hit and dont wanna take the gamble and eat a full combo so i block instead…

oh and not related to this but in fuerte matchup, c.lp s.hp is really good especially against jump happy fuerte… if the fuerte tried to ex run into whatever, the s.hp can stuff that too.

I also like nj.lk in the elf match-up.

oh and good stuff magneto maniac for comin up with all the tech… i feel like a scrub sometimes for barely using OS in my gameplay… lol

after watchin that vid, i dont think i played that well… i still get that nervousness when i play tokido(and his dirty gouki) + tourney jitters still affects me. watchin that video, i missed( be it intentionally or not) quite a few s.hp after a step kick too

ah well, i might face him again today(FRB JAPAN 07)… lets see how i do today…

Murder the MurderFace

punish bad rolls, blocked lk wheel kick with jabs into sweep… :sadface:
