Abel Match Videos

lol u didnt say neutral jump rh into s.hp xx cod in that post, u said j.rh into CoD… thats why i said that better be a typo because ure giving advice to other people but ure telling them to straight CoD after a neutral jump rh. that is all  i didnt elaborate my post because i was mad sleepy at that time and went straight to bed hahha

yeah my bad got to work on that descriptive wordage once again…but since were on the same do you agree with that advice???

hmm to me if i have meter, i’ll go with s.hp xx CoD fadc cr.hp into fs/ultra/resets(probably the least likely but sometimes u feel like taking the risk to bait shoryu etc to land a raw ultra)…

without meter i will probably go with cr.hp xx lk roll fs.

Whats up Abel community. I had been reading the thread a couple of weeks ago when people were talking about the Ryu match up in terms of poking and playing footsies, but I never had a chance to respond or give any input. of me playing against a local Ryu player. This was tournament top 8.

In terms of the match up, I agree with Ryan 100%. This is actually one of the match ups where I feel the most comfortable because I feel like Abel actually can play a very strong footsies game. Standing short goes a long way in this match up. Once you have him reluctant to spam c.MK, you can start going to town with step kicks and naked dashes, etc.

I’m pretty disappointed with myself in that set though, I have a very bad habit of just kind of letting the match get away from me, and letting myself lose, which you’ll see in that set. I dominated him first game, and even all of the second game up until the end, and then I just let him walk all over me until he won. In the last game especially, I missed a ton of opportunities to win. Two EX Tatsus I EX rolled and could have ultraed, and a fireball I did do the Ultra motion for, but too slow and I didn’t get the ultra out. Regardless, it’s a good set to learn from.

Anyway, I’m probably going to be posting a little Akuma match up compilation soon. I’ve had the footage on my computer for about 3 weeks, but I was waiting to get a few more clips before I finished it, but I’ve lost all motivation at this point to finish it, so I’m just going to upload it as-is, so you guys can at least benefit from what’s already there.

I haven’t really been playing SF4 anymore, because I’ve come to the realization that Abel is not the character for me in terms of play style. Like I said, I feel most comfortable fighting Ryu because I can control the pace of the match and play footsies. The problem is I try to play all of Abel’s match ups like that, and you can’t win with Abel that way at a high level. There are some match ups where you have to play aggressive, no discussion. You’re not going to beat Chun, or Dictator, or Rufus, or basically anyone if you’re not the one pressing forward. You have to accept the fact that you’re going to take some hits in exchange for getting in, and then make the most of your mix up once you get in. And that’s just not for me :shake:.

So good luck, and just wanted to give you something to think about.

I love your Abel man… too bad you stopped playing.

I just wanted to take a second to say thanks to all the regular contributors to this and the match up thread. All the great info posted in both places really helped me level my game up recently and it showed in our tourney over the weekend. Went from being out in the first or second round to placing top 3 only loosing a split to a Rog and to the best Geif in our city. The Able forums are by far the most concise and easy to use. We should have some vids posted within the week and I would like to get your guys feedback.

Just some vids for people to watch (G2 and casuals)

and congrats to severin for placin top 3 =)

Good shit i saw the major of ur vids Loved the commentary during the guile vid tho haha

me vs Vicious (Rufus)

only one match. I know I miss some links and opportunities, and it only happened when I played against him for some reason. Oh, and the audio is waaay off. Reason why I turtled in this matchup-- in casuals, when I played my “usual” way, I was getting owned.

I’ll have a Ryu one up soon (one match) and a E. Honda one too (one set). I lose in all of them. I already see my mistakes but feel free to critique or whatever. busta or combofiend, teach how to beat jeremy! =[

You actually didn’t play that match bad resres, round 1 you were all over him, rnd 2 you kinda got effed up but it happens (especially in that matchup), and you didn’t give up round 3. The one big hole I can see is your execution. You would have absoultely dominated vicious in round one had you landed all of you f.mk s.hp xx cod. The other thing against rufus (ESPECIALLY against vicious) you have to kinda use TT a lot more sparingly. You had 1 really nice tick TT in round 3 when you saw that he was content to block. But everyone seems to be so scared of the TT they just wanna jump out of it, and against a character who can short jump dive kick hit confirm into your death, you have to know he’s going to want to jump all over you (which REALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLY sucks). But I notice that I have the most success against rufus/vicious when I’m all over the AA’s. (remind me to teach you the s.fp/grab option select against dive kicks/tick throw next time we play) Keep on truckin dude, you’re getting better everytime I see you play!

thanks man! yeah, my execution is off in that match… and all my matches against him that night. when I was facing other people that night, it was working 90% of the time. it’s something I’ve been working on since maybe a month ago I could only do it probably 20% of the time. and I’m trying to work that s.fp/throw OS… i just don’t know if I’m doing it right, lol. I would practice it, but the only one that uses Rufus down here at least casually is me, haha. there’s another option select that I’m working on that joon suggested I do, and it might work well against Rufus. Jeremy gave me the same tips about the AA (use c.hp), so I tried to do that a little. I’m still not comfortable throwing AAs against Rufus cause it can get stuffed by properly spaced dive kicks, so I need to adjust to that mindset.

yeah, my abel is slowly improving… then again, it’s hell when i go up there because of all them Giefs + Rufus! I need to play against your Honda more too. I get impatient sometimes.

@resres - maybe you lost that match but you did good (especially in the first round)… its just scary when a rufus got you in the corner.

I struggle to do the st.fp throw OS the hand position for it is so damn weird i can see it being very useful if you can get it down though

When abel is in the corner let the mind fucks being… :frowning:

more step kick! He was really df+mk happy… that does two things. 1) rolls into your range 2) gives you a counter hit. that move has no priority against something like step kick and coulda made a big difference. He also didn’t jump or mash EX messiah on his wakeup so a meaty TT would have been a better option than meaty c.fp
It mght just be Rufus’s extra health but it also looked like you used jab TTs when you could have used fierce. Leaves damage on the table, and jab TT is a lot more unsafe

A gift from Cali.

Good shit.

Props for winning, JBA. Though some of the things you did seem to be unnecessarily risky (like throwin CoD out of nowhere) but im sure you had your reasons, some things ppl cant just deduce from watching vids… if it was me, the reason id throw a CoD like you did is when the ryu just dancing back and forth, aiming to land the CoD when he’s walking forward… also by analyzing how valle played in that match, he never took any chance to shoryu after a f.mk(often eating a TT)… i think you used the fact that he’s playing it extra safe to your advantage.

As for that whiffed shoryu punished with cr.hp xx CoD near the end, i assumed it can either be a misexecution or youre not takin any chances for the cr.hp not getting the full 2 hits (it seemed like it could only be one hit to me)…

I could be wrong here and there, just my 2 cent. Thanks for posting the vid.

I love watching your Abel, good work!

Good stuff, JBA. So did playing Ken really help your footsies? hah.

Now to come back to crappy Abel playing:

me vs Hellfyre (Ryu)

me vs Destruct1ve (Honda)

I miss too many opportunities. Yeah, my execution is off. and for some reason I didn’t use a lot of step kick like I normally would against Honda.

Damn, dats that good stuff.
