Ambiguous Rolls.
What hfz was trying to say in his hilariously over aggressive way was that the word ambiguous used before the word roll gives you an indication of its purpose. It is a roll that becomes difficult to decide which side it will end up on thus causing the opponent to block or use their reversal badly, allowing you to punish them with whatever you see fit.

An example of this would be when you throw someone to the floor using a regular throw, if you perform a lk (light kick) roll you will notice you end up on the other side of them. Experiment with moving abel slightly forwards or backwards after the throw and you will reach a point where you have no clue which side abel will end up on. This is the essence of a ambigious roll confusing your opponent and allowing you to land a jab hit confirm into a st hp/mp combo, reg throw, TT (tornado throw) or simply just blocking if you feel they will mash out a reversal move (uppercut or similar).

?Safe? Ambigious rolls which allow you to block assuming you press nothing can be done off sweep knockdown, wheel kick knockdown, regular throw knockdown. This is because the opponent is unable to tech the knockdown and recover with enough time to punish you.

As I mentioned before the purpose of these rolls is to confuse your opponents blocking enough to land a move but remember trying this carries an inherent risk. Each option of yours will have a specific counter so it really does take some good skills in reading your opponent to decide if you should attempt such a setup and what move to do after it.

Hope that helps if you need any more add me on xbox live ?bunsav? and ill do what I can.

yeah i guess i was kinda aggressive but meh, sometimes its just daily stress

sometimes its uncalled for, but sometimes i guess people should have a thicker skin… on a forum like this haha. its not like i mean any harm or anything.

Yeah and any other time i would agree with you hfz rip his head off and dont look back. But alas since he is asking nicely and with non broken english to boot! The very least we can do is show a young abel warrior a bit of respect and point him in the right direction.

Anyway peace out much love to the abel brethren.

BUMP

there are two links in that post btw.

lol I just find it funny you probably spent more time flipping out than you wouldve if you just answered it normally

nah, typing shit like that dont take so much time hahhahaa

im tryin to at least provide info even when im flipping out… thats the very least i can do haha life can be so stressful sometimes and i admit sometimes i get irritated easily heh

Abel cant be angry we all have to be emo and love dogs!!!

lets say youre playing a good ryu. once you knock them down, how often do you go for a cross up versus rolling into them. I’ve been doing it 50/50 throughout a match, and its been effective.

I think what hfz was trying to accomplish was making the poster do some thinking and hopefully come up with the solution on his own. By giving him a clue, I don’t think he was necessarily being mean, he just wasn’t spoonfeeding him the answer.

And let’s face it, in every forum there is gonna be that guy who doesn’t read stickies or the rest of the thread and just wants to be told what the solution is, through no effort on his part.

A good example of this was in the Rufus forum recently, where a known ragequitter made a new thread just to ask how to deal with divekick pressure, because in his words: “scrubs online keep spamming that shit”. Way to go, and way to insult the people you are asking for a handout. Again, I’m not saying that ThisGuile was like that, it was just more likely that hfz had answered that same question a buncha times and wanted the poster to do some independent research.

Whilst i agree with you Hiryu02 the difference between someone demanding a answer in a unsavory manor and asking politely without cluttering the forum, is a huge one. It was clear he had done some leg work already and was not merely being completely lazy. Not to mention the information regarding ambiguous rolls is buried deep in the forums somewhere (definitely not stickied), as it is something that is very rarely discussed nowadays as we all know it.

Anyway i get what hfz was trying to do just think people can go about it in the wrong way and come across very hard on the newbies. It must be remembered there is a huge difference between a newbie (someone who wants to learn and actually asks politely) and a noob (someone who does not want to learn just wants to rage because he loses). Point is newbies should be nurtured, noobs should be kicked the fuck out :). This particular poster was the former and as such we can point him in the right direction without jumping down his throat.

Grrr double post.

If you piss off hfz you’re already automatically in the wrong. The man has the patience of a fucking saint compared to other posters on the board, myself included.

if by good ryu = can autocorrect shoryu on wakeup consistently, i wouldnt j.mk crossup them that much… if you insist on using j.mk, mix it up - crossup or fake crossup.

id definitely prefer rolling or dashing in once i got the knockdown. though maybe when i have a good life lead and the ryu has no meter to fadc/ultra, id try to cross him up after a TT (the one that will stuff a reversal shoryu but not autocorrect ones)…

but yeah, thats just me. if i respect the ryu player i probably wont really do obvious jump ins that much

hey guys, i was thinking about picking up abel but i was wondering what the basic approach is when you fight with abel. he’s definitely a different character played in a different style so just a little bit of advice would be nice. Thanks!

I haven’t seen this asked yet, but does anyone know what the exact properties are for EX Falling Sky? From what I can tell, the normals seem to trade startup/recovery for damage, but it feels like EX has an enormous grab range (like the airborne character doesn’t even have to be within distance of abel’s arm during the animation and he’ll still get slammed)

Anyone else notice this? Also, it seems like FS is a bit safer to do on reaction to bad jump-ins since Super came out. I used to trade/fail a lot trying to do it against things like a long HK jump-in from ryu/ken/etc and now i can actually win the exchange (especially with EX)

Anyone else played around/tested this?

EX FS has invisibility frames. FS got buffed in Super because the hitbox was changed.

edit: lol i said invisibility instead of invincibility.

from the frame data… ex fs : hit invul frame 1-5, frame 6-7 hit invul(upper body only)

Love this thread!!! New Abel player here just recovered from the deadly S-Virus.

I’ve been playing on xbl a lot lately and i noticed that people who keep jumping completely own me. Now i dont mean jumping in on me cause i’d just anti-air all day. I mean people who get ahead in life and then proceed to run away by jumoing back all the time. I don really know what to do against it and i get frustrated and usually end up losing because i start chasing them in dumb ways (jumping, dashing a lot) and then ill get hit by a lot of stuff like air to Airs or anti airs or even moves that instantly move them across screen (ex mgb, ex neckbreaker, ex hayate etc).

Tl;dr how do i deal with people that run away?
