Abel Beginner Thread: "It takes more than brute strength..."

Thanks Chilla, I was an AA’ing monster last night

I think I just need experience now, are there any good Abel players who would spar with me? I’d just like to see a good Abel and try and work from there.

I don’t consider myself “good” by any means but I have my moments where I get on a roll and Bu-Fu my opponents mind. I’d love to play you anytime you want. Add my on XBL or PSN. I’m usually on XBL though. But if I know your gonna be on or something I will definitely hop over.

It’s a date! lol

Only problem is I’m in south UK so there might be a bit of a lag issue :frowning: would be nice to just see another play style though. I want something to start from, see what other people do in certain situations and try to digest everything and improve what I do. You can fight my sexy Gen!

I agree with HAV. Abel mirrors are fucking stupid.
However, with that said… I can see sparring with another abel as a total novice being helpful, but only if it was more of a “so after I falling sky you, I have these options” --> demonstration
as opposed to actually playing each other and trying to pick up on what the better Abel is doing.

Then again, you could just read some threads and watch a video or two and spend 10 minutes in training room to figure the basics out for yourself.

I definately understand Abel mirrors being random. And ironically I set up a best of 5 room all the time and when I run into something I haven’t seen or understood the other person would explain it and maybe show me more stuff. Like an online training room really. Winning doesn’t matter in those.

Right. I’m just saying unless it really is a dedicated “training session”, with you talking to the other dude, you’re not gonna learn much from just playing a good Abel as Abel in the way that you can benefit from playing other people to gain matchup experience.

Well that’s good as my main is Gen lol, so I can watch and digest at my hearts content

alas I was kicked from the 1 game he invited me to though… lol

Here’s some super basic basic wake up tricks with abel.

Someone wanna add this under one of the sticky threads? Wouldn’t this be the thread to keep it under?

not sure if that thread is worth a sticky.

mixups maybe can be put into the same thread as the abel FAQ.

heck, i think theres a pdf document that i uploaded in that thread for okizeme(its in the first post, nonetheless), and that stuff is all about mixups. if youre talking reset mixups, theres a thread about it somewhere, but honestly theres not that much variety of it.

edit: but yeah, that list is old, there are a few more setups you can do.

don’t know where to put this, but I am having alot of trouble doing abel’s trial 18!
Specifically timing of the crouching HP–> roll–> super

by the time my super comes out I am usually behind the opponent who is already practically on the ground

Help me with the timing, any tips?

Thank you, much appreciated

because you’re doing heavy roll!!!

use light kick version…!!!

forgot to mention I am using light kick version, sorry

You’re probably not cancelling the cr.HP into roll. You have to input it in timing of cr.HP -> falling sky but use roll instead of FS

Thanks!

Didn’t know it was a cancel, for some reason I thought it was a link

anyways I got it done

any tips on how to get f mk to link w/ st. HP?

much appreciated for the help

how do I deal with crouching opponents? usually I either grab,cl hk or try to get a heel kick but most of the time it gets blocked. Is there anything I can follow up with after I land a cl hk? when I try to apply mixups I usually get reversal-ed after the first attempt so then I play it safe and end up losing the match. how do I make my mixups more ambiguous?

There’s a few questions here, so I’m going to go through them one at a time.

As far as down backing goes, you have a relatively quick overhead. Stand strong links out of a meaty or CH cl.hk; shoutouts to hfz for FADCing it into a TT. Step kick into a normal throw is bitchin’; if they neutral jump, punish with a cl.hp xx roll for another mix-up. As far as wheel kick goes, I’d use that sparingly. EX is good for countering fireballs, and it’s relatively safe if you hit with the tip. But, I wouldn’t suggest using it too much. TT and cl.hk are good enough options in their own right.

Mix-ups are risky mattering on what you’re doing. There’s a whole bunch of mix-ups in the FAQ; check 'em out if you haven’t. But most mix-ups can be punished by something. Part of mix-ups is, well, mixing them up. Don’t do the same shit over and over. That in its own right will help your mix-ups.

wait wait wait wait wait wait…

Low Strong… Links INTO an overhead?

Out of. My bad if I worded it wrong. And it’s stand strong.
