Also, Jam is reading the request, hence she’s putting her hand up in disgust/frustration/whatever. It’s just hard to use sprites at ALL in Paint. It’s easier to draw the damn thing yourself I guess. You’ve crushed the dreams of a future master av maker Stephen, now the world will never be able to witness my incredibly amazing avs. :sad:
That being said, can I judge next time? The world just isn’t ready for mspaint entries! :wgrin:
And btw, I thought the May Airforce One av was the best one. Such a simple av, yet it looked so good…

I’ll critique the ones I didn’t vote for:
Good idea, decent execution. If I’m not mistaken, the actual art style you went for here doesn’t actual use any color, it’s simply black on rice paper. I can see why you used pink mind you, but limiting it to black might have worked better (I may be horribly wrong on the actual traits of this style mind you, so I apologise if that ends up being the case). Also, not giving her a face at all really did hinder the piece.
In the end it’s more a decent avatar. It’s certainly not ugly, but it doesn’t hold much weight on its own either, there’s little energy to be found in it (relax or exciting).
It’s Slayer’s head on Zappa’s body underwater, with a Cheep-cheep giving us a cameo. It just need a bit more work on it to incorporate the actual notion of being underwater, seeing as the background actually manages to hurt the piece. Cheep-cheep was totally a saving grace though, gave it just the push in the right direction.
That stock of Millia is adorable, but it just doesn’t work with the background at all, not in the slightest. The background itself has to just be done away with really, even though that shot of Millia (to the right of the avatar) might have been put to better use.
Another great environmental shot stuck into an avatar by Quiche. Really there isn’t all that much wrong with it, it’s just simply not all that pleasing to the eye. It needs a subtle touch to just catch your eye, as the sprite of Dizzy is a commonly used one really, and as such it is a bit easy to just glance at it once and then skip over it. You do have a knack for these ‘shots’ though, keep it up.
Multicolored, fidgety background. That’s about it, I can’t even pinpoint exactly what I should be getting out of this avatar, or what you really put into it.

Not all that bad of an idea, definitely needs plenty elbow grease to give it life though. You know, tilt the picture a bit, give it a polaroid ‘shot’ feel to it, that type of thing.

Never ever, ever, ever, ever, ever use ZOOM LAYER as a way to fill up your background. It automatically negates whatever flow / feel / energy your avatar has simply because of the reptition present.

The same goes for the grids, that’s almost never worth using.
Ditch the ZOOM LAYER and grids (if you can still alter it) and throw some more into it and show it off again!
I like it Infini, tiny bit of Phil (Bay 6) in there. Good colors and all, but that whole blurry / fading deal you have going on doesn’t work. It would have worked much better without it. Also make the name bigger next time (in another font and a different color).
You had something here buddy, you really did, but the way you tried to work in the background totally killed the piece. All the pieces work fine on their own, but together it’s somewhat of a mess. Rework it somehow, don’t have so much DEATH on screen, crank out a better background, it’ll rock hard in the end.
This is another one of those cases where the sprite doesn’t compliment the background, or vice versa. It’s just the sprite ontop of an interesting background. Make them work with one another, not against each other.
Honestly this does LOOK good in much every aspect, but it’s completely and totally lost on me thanks to the subject matter. Take that how you will.
Nice job. I rather like it. Good use space / transparency. It does feel a bit cluttered though.
It’s stylish (somehow), but that’s as far as it goes. Really not much else to say of it, save I never found O RLY? funny.
The ‘tech’ theme you went with was executed decently, but the avatar is monochromatic (which obviously a bad thing in this case). Microtext barely helps. Those 'puff’s of white on either side of RBKII don’t do much to help either.
As I already mentioned, creative idea, poor execution. Honestly, most of your recent work has been lacking that simplistic charm your stuff used to have, now they’re just SIMPLE period, and as a result, dull.
Looks pretty damn good, good font, control of space, so on and so forth, but that white puff next to him DOES NOT work, what were you thinking?

Sorry, I didn’t critique avs that I didnt have much to say about (either other people nailed it, or I didnt know how to improve it). But I’ll try to do all the critiques when I get a chance.
