Congrats to the winners!
Now that the judging is done and points are tallied, time to throw in my 2 cents on the avatars (I hope I don’t mean to offend anyone by any sort of criticsm/thoughts I may delve into my critique).
STILL
"8-Bit Dan"
I’ve got no complaints when it comes to delivering what the title says; give us an 8-bit, NES sprite style of Dan - and frankly I’d say that’s rather authentic. Though I don’t mind that Ken and his stage are there, it would’ve been a bit more Dan-like if we saw the stage taking place at an 8-bit version of Dan’s Saikyo Dojo. Maybe have him against an 8-bit Blanka, doing a taunt pose. Still though, it’s a job well done.
“An F-ing Dan Penguin?!?!?!”
The expression of the penguin while wearing Dan’s gi makes him look incredibly awesome. A couple of the bubble effects in the av seem a bit distracting, but other than that, it delivers in all accounts.
"Dan Hibiki"
Simple and straight to the point with it’s effects and background color theme. No complaints here.
"Dan Vs. Sagat"
This nicely captures the more serious side of Dan; the one where he wants to beat down Sagat in revenge of his father’s death. It kind of feels that Dan is practicing by himself in the wilderness, trying to visualize how he’ll fight against his father’s slayer, which is represented by the Sagat mirage.
"Do You Yahoo?"
Dan doing his famous “Yahoo!” taunt with the Yahoo! logo floating in mid-air. I’d say it’s a perfect match, plus the pink is flourished rather well in the av.
"Gotta Be Smarter Than Dan"
I like the text style and how the sequence of the Lincoln coin being better than Dan, but I think I might’ve missed what the reference is about.
"More Than Just A Sex Symbol"
The placement of the Steven Seagal image is good, but I dunno about all those Dan poses being there. Maybe one or two, but to me it seems quite cluttered and I almost tried to look at it numerous times to see what each Dan is doing. It’s a good idea, though.
"Saikyo Sackboy"
Good Sackboy edit, but the background seems quite plain and the spray marks seem kind of random. Maybe if you used a rendered pink background, it would’ve been a lot better.
"Saikyo Student"
Dan is proud of his arcade protege! That was rather amusing. Placement of Dan and the pic on the arcade cabinet are good.
"SFIV Tier List"
Hah! Sagat truly likes mocking the weakness of Dan alright. It’s a pretty honest telling of how Dan won’t ever reach the top tier with his status as constant joke character, and what’s worse (for him) than having his most hated nemesis as the guy being top tier?
“Taunt”
:lol: Poor Dan, not even the 4 Kings take you seriously. The expressions on all 5 characters are great, especially that sad and dejected look Dan has. Very nice work!
ANIMATED
"How Worthless"
The idea of Dan crying about his worthlessness and Sakura laughing at him is good and seems to be carried out well in the avatar.
"Saikyo Tengu"
I like the shocked expression Akuma/Gouki has when Dan goes into Tengu mode. I guess that’s his secret weapon which he inherited from his father (whom had a massive nose like a tengu in Pocket Fighter, who in turn makes fun of Mr.Karate from AoF).
“Shun Goku Satsu Escape”
Wow! That animation is absolutely smooth when it comes to the Dan run! How did you do it? Regardless, it’s a funny way of showing Dan’s way to escape a Raging Demon/Shun Goku Satsu. I could’ve said having a bit of text like “Feets don’t fail me now!” or something similar would’ve been nice, but it would’ve made the animated characters a lot smaller.
"Yogadouken"
I love the way Dan’s hand gets all rubbery when he does the Yogadouken; as mentioned earlier, it’s kind of like how 'Sim’s stretchiness is exaggerated in SFIV. Pretty much shows that Dan is the man in everything if he gets enough time to learn stuff like yoga.
Though I wish there were a few more entrants, but hopefully next time we’d see a much better turnout.
