So after extending a week, the pickings are still pretty slim. Prize givers can feel free to back out, if this isn’t up to snuff.

Thanks to all the artists who submitted entries. Thanks also to the judges and everyone who might donate prizes.

I’ll unveil the artists next to each avatar once all the judging is complete.

The standard rules:

#1: No one discusses the avs until ALL SEVEN judges have passed judgement. This is to prevent people from giving away who the artists are. This is not limited to the artists. Even if you did not submit an av, please refrain from commenting until after the judges have voted. The judges do not know who has submitted an av, and I don’t want you giving away to them that you DIDN’T submit an av by starting to comment on them.

#2: Judges: you are to pick your favorite 3 in each category based on whatever criteria you want. You will then order them from 1 to 3. Your #1 pick gets 3 points, your #2 pick gets 2 points, and your #3 pick gets 1 point. The points will be tallied, and a winner for each category declared.

**#3:**Judges can feel free to discuss among themselves any aspects of the avatars they like. They may confer with each other before voting, but do not have to. Feel free to discuss what you like or dislike about any of the avatars --1 Restriction, tho! Judges may not speculate as to who the artists are, as your speculations may affect the other judges.

Even though a lot of these filter applied avs can be seen, I like this one a lot. the electricity and overall appearance is nice, imo.

Nice theme, good idea, good execution. I like the little surprised akuma frame that snuck in b4 he runs away.

That facial expression on Dan is priceless. I actually kinda feel bad for him here. I love the colors of the background. It makes me think that this av could be a scene in a funny movie. And, I would definitely go watch it. :lol:

2nd Place (2 Points):
“Dan Vs. Sagat”

The colors, the shading, and the famous SFA2 background all work well together. Dan actually looks menacing here with his “Level 3 Focus Attack.” Only bad thing about this av is that he’s only fighting a mirage of Sagat. (I hope I’m interpreting this correctly.)

3rd Place (1 Point):
“Do You Yahoo?”

The famous jump taunt. Pink. Yahoo! This av just screams “Dan.” I love the background, and the “Yahoo!” logo is a nice touch.

1st Place (3 Points):
“Yogadouken”

When I first saw the title for this avatar, I didn’t know what to expect. This one made me LOL in real life. The animation of Dan’s arm stretching is really smooth, and it even has the “rubber”-y retracting animation that Dhalsim displays in SF4.

2nd Place (2 Points):
“How Worthless”

There are two things I don’t like about this av. First, I don’t know why the av maker chose to go with non-premium dimensions. Second, I think having Sakura say “You’re worthless!” is better, and it still would have gotten the point across. The font and border combo just seems a little bland. That said, Sakura shaking with laughter and Dan shaking his fist while crying work really well together. Sorry Dan, but if this little girl can throw out a better fireball than you can, you really are worthless.

3rd Place (1 Point):
“Shun Goku Satsu Escape”

I had a lot of trouble deciding which av should take third place, since there were only four entries. I picked this one over “Saikyo Tengu” because getting Akuma and Dan from SF4 is really awesome. The animation is really smooth, but the av looks kinda grainy.

This is awesome. I also love Penguins, they are totally ‘my animal.’ Its also fitting, because when I think of Penguins I think of useless little things… Like Dan :slight_smile: it looks good, its got the cute factor… Its my 1st place vote.

"SFIV Tier List"

Again with the funny :slight_smile: This had me cracking up. I can just see Sagat holding the tier list out and laughing his ass off, while Dan is crying and complaining about how it’s bullshit that he’s on the bottom of the list :stuck_out_tongue: Sagat’s hand holding the sign looks a little funny, but the rest of it is pretty good.

Very unique idea. Taking Dan jumping in the air and turning it into an advertisement for a company… He’d be the perfect spokesman for Yahoo too. Not only does the saying fit, but they are both pretty useless compared to the other competitors :wink: Good show!

I like the surprise on Akuma right before he splits lol… It’s a nice little added extra.

This is the most unique out of the 4 submittals. Fairly funny… has Dan trying to mimic Dhalsim (and doing a good job of it!) Looks pretty good.

First thing I would like to say is I think maybe a few more interesting things could have been done. A great idea, maybe not executed perfectly, is still a very amusing thing when it comes to the world of the avatars. I know I know “you got so many good ideas why don’t you do em” I would merely like to say that in this sort of area I am quite horrible. But seriously, SF4 gives us some lollin godawful dieing voices and while it is no MY FIGHT MONEY, Dan’s FATHERRRRRR ranks up there as far as I am concerned. And yet when looking upon this no one decided to capitalize. Or what about a Robert/Ryo beatdown on Dan as Dan is basically a Capcom character in SNK blackface such is the affront. Ok enough of that nonsense, there are some I enjoyed as the voting will obviously show.

Forst Place:

The first thing I thought when Dan was unlocked on our communal Street Fighter 4 was his stunning resemblance to Steven Seagal. This quite amused me as I am rather enthralled with the later fat Steven Seagal movies. It seems that this av maker knew the way into my heart and capitalized on it. I think it is a little too busy, I think one Dan would have made it a bit cleaner, probably take it so that middle Dan looks to be holding his pic. It seems this Dan collage is meant to be seen as a shape or character of some sort. Sadly something like this is lost on my Plebian tastes. Also the text is kinda balls small and doesn’t really add to the glory of it. That all being said I would mad wear this if no one else wants it.

Second Place:

Dan might be a joke character but I think sometimes we forget that they did give him a decent background. Sagat killed his dad and he is mad pissed about it. I really like the way this is done and sort of actually prefer the ghost Sagat. He might be in the fight right now, he might be training, hell he could be fighting someone else. The opponent doesn’t matter as much as the inner turmoil and anger that Dan is fighting on the inside and I think this depicts that quite well.

Third Place:

I dunno, I guess this one a lot of these really didnt spark my interest. This one was somewhat amusing tho. It is obvious whatever DA crappy artist you took this from doesn’t know how to draw blacks or gays. Just take a look at Barlog and Vega.

As for the others, Penguin Dan was just a little wtf for me, if 8bit Dan had had some different stances or action maybe a punch or dp or something in it it probably would have made it through, Standard Danitar looks nice but was just that, a decent Dan av, Yahoo pretty much suffers from the same fate, sackboy was bland though I could at least tell what you were going for, unlike that fuckin one with the penny, saikyo student looked like something I could have done so unless there is some connotation I am missing it just isnt quite there, SFIV tier lists biggest fault besides not being altogether greatly clever is the fact that this is about dan and sagat takes up about a good 2/3 of the av, or at least that is how I felt about it, my eye goes immediately to Sagat everytime I glance at it.

Ok enough pretending I know anything about anything on to…

ANIMATED

Fist place:

This was really close between this one and second place but the WTF Akuma Frame brings home the glory.

Secondest place:

Seamless, smooth, really nice looking, I would run from Rope outfit Akuma too, wtf is up with all the rope costumes in SF4.

Thrid place:

This one came in by being more interesting than the sole other opponent, but hey, placin is placin I guess. I sorta wish Sim’s punch was a bit slower to be more in line with Dan’s stretch ARMstrong, maybe a different effect too, the first 5 times I watched it it really looked like he turned Sim’s head into a tomato.

As for the fourth one there are a lot more things you can do with an animated AV and this one could have really been a still and I don’t think anyone would have noticed.

That being said (damn I say that quite a bit) KEEP ENTERING THESE DAMN THINGS, I WILL NOT BE HAPPY UNTIL THE ABC HAS 50 AVS IN BOTH CATAGORIES

1st Place: “Dan vs. Sagat”

I don’t know exactly why, but I can kinda feel Dan’s hatred towards Sagat right there. Sagat taunting, Dan enraged, it’s captured nicely in this. It may be me, but it seems like he’s FA’ing the image of Sagat (despite the fact that it doesn’t look like a SF4 sprite) which also adds to the appeal for me.

2nd Place: “Dan Hibiki”

The little added effects, like the electricity, the wording on the side, plus how simply clean it looks…it works for me. I could see this being a “GG-esque” character intro screen for him. Very nice.

3rd Place: “SFIV Tier List”

Poor Dan. Not only shafted on the tier list in general, but the fact that Sagat is the one rubbing it in…it’s a play on their story, AND it’s truth, all in one av. True, Sagat’s hand looks a little odd with the sign, but how else is he gonna hold it and laugh at a crying Saikyo master?

1st Place: “Shun Goku Satsu Escape”

I love this! It had me dying the first time I saw it, because as I watched, I could hear Dan screaming “Crap oh crap oh crap! Running running running running!!” Nice choice of costumes for both of them as well. Almost looked like Goku trying to run from Gouki for a second. :rofl:

2nd Place: “Saikyo Tengu”

I’ll admit: I have no idea what “Tengu” means. Nevertheless, I’m just sitting here enjoying this one. I’m still slightly confused where Dan got that nose from, but hey, whatever works for him. Gouki’s “Wtf?” face is (as everyone else has mentioned) priceless.

3rd Place: “How Worthless”

I like how this one plays on a few things: Worthless being the new IMM mod (congrats again), Dan being…well…worthless, and Sakura laughing at him. It’s small, but works well given the size. And as I type this, I just now noticed that Dan’s tears are actually running…I’m a terrible judge. ><

There ya go. Also, whoever did “SGS Escape”, after this is done, can I get that as an actual av? :tup:

Yeah. I’d actually like to pick up Saikyo Tengu as an av after this is all over, if it’s ok with the creator.
