Commentary: All in all I was pretty disappointed by this turnout. A number of people who voted they’d “definitely” enter ended up being no-shows (no surprises) and a lot of the avatars that I did get were pretty quick slapjobs, especially for stills.

Poor font choice, horrible dither, but great idea. Sadly, this kind of thing is just far too ambitious to look good in an SRK avatar given the current limitations. If you could have animated the twinkly on Dan’s smile, that would have been awesome too.

Not much to say about it other than I spent a lot of time playing around with how the button presses look, and I did at one point have them much more noticable, but in the end, I decided to go for a more realistic look of the buttons actually being pressed rather than a more obvious but less realistic effect.

I think you would have had a better result if you made use of the low quality by making the image look televised (Some static, scan line, etc) Then the image quality would become part of its appeal. Also, use a real TV. Some old one. Would have looked better.

Looks like you ran into that editing trap, trying to get it to srk size limits. It’s frustrating, when I used to make avs I had a whole bunch of concepts thrown in the trash cause I couldn’t make them presentable in srk size limit. It can be very tough. You end up spending too much time on it trying to change small things. I totally understand.

Uhm quiche, yo wasn’t the font on the name of the moves slightly blurry the other day?? It was kind of the same blurry as the vewlix in the upper right, but now the font is crisp as shit. Hmm I’m not 100% sure though, but did you just recently change it?
I love this one. Professional looking, very clean and smooth animation. Nice clean loop.
Awesome. Simple but very effective. Establishes mood immediately. Matt Groening said the most iconic characters are the ones you could recognize on silhouettes so I guess Rufus will be a classic character down the road.
I really fell in love with the concept of this one, IMO having more draft picks would’ve made it much more effective, maybe foregoing most of Rose’s animation and the text for other characters?
Another one with a very cool concept but hampered by the filesize. Reducing text and pallette could probably help? Also, trusting the visual to tell the story/rather than the text would be much efficient. The action goes by pretty fast and doesn’t offer enough time for the point to “marinate”.
Unlike Master Chibi, I love story avatars. 
I’m a huge fan of Dark Dragon’s work. This concept is decent although a little hampered by execution. Ryu is obviously not holding the phone, maybe cropping the photo so that you could only see Ryu’s face with half the phone attached to it would be more effective. Also sans-serif fonts would be preferable once the fonts get much tinier because they are easier to read.
Very funny entry. Letters are a little hard to read because of the size of the screen but still gets the funny across.
Nice clean entry. Didn’t realize the button pressess until I looked closer, but that was a nice touch. I was waiting for a punchline like “scrub hadouken” then it would just go rotate on all directions and all buttons pressed. lol.

I really enjoy this one. It warms the cockles of my heart looking at this and I can’t seem to look away and I don’t even know why. Somehow reminds me of Glenn Close in Fatal Attractions (and equally scary) poised there relaxing almost to say “Yeah, I’ll kick your ass later when I’m done chilling…yes I’m chilling. Can’t you see I’m wearing a turtle neck?” Beyond classification.
It looks quite spartan but I think the characters are miming S, F and 4? Would’ve probably worked as an animation as well.

It’s like Guile and Rufus have gone clubbing except Guile can’t have fun because he keeps on thinking about the family he left and Rufus knows he can’t score with the ladies so he buries his sorrow away in pop corn and artificial butter flavoring.

Yeah, I noticed that too… It stuck out like a sore thumb for me because the only flaw I saw with that av was the smaller blurred text on the original copy.
It was still a great av regardless. It just seems a bit shady to replace it before the final judgment.

I really wanted to enter in this, but all of my free-time was spent working on a Darkstalkers entry for the udon tribute contest. 
Ok, here’s my attempt to break down the prizes without costing the sponsors any more money (since year packs are cheaper than monthly, etc.
WARNA BROTHER and Rooks4 said they’d give 1 yr prem, 6 months prem, 3 months prem.
Which comes out to $25 + $14 + $9 = $48 x 2
Worthless said 6 months and 6 months which is $14 + $14 = $28
Total that’s $124.
Now, splitting it up among six contestants: 8 months each for the 5 in a tie. (That’s $20: $14 + $3 + $3) And that leaves $24 for Sheng-Long. Now since that’s not in increments of prem, I’ll go ahead and give a dollar so it’s $25 and Sheng-Long gets a year for cleanly beating everyone out.
I’ll be pm’ing the sponsors with details of who to give what to.
