A team of scientists creates a mutated strain of the Bird Flu (H5N1)

Yes, they did. Then later they realized if they give minorities freebies, their enemy suddenly becomes their biggest resource, and a totally dependent one, at that, ensuring decades of support and government reliance, despite nothing getting any better for them. The new slavery.

Wait, you mean those are people? </kkk mode>

You really think medicare costs or anything dealing with modern civilization would matter in the midst of a global pandemic? You think “civilized” society could still operate when the entire globe is being afflicted with a virus that kills 85% of the time.

Only to have the last remaining survivors be some inbreds up in Appalachia to repopulate humanity…

one of the benefits of globalization: the ease of which a disease can easily wipe out the entire world, given how easy it is to get from point A to point B in today’s day and age.

everyday i thank my lucky stars i’m still alive and just enjoy it while i can!

Gay.

One reason to make it could be to figure out how to combat it.

If it does get out and become a pandemic Sherpas, Tibetan Monks, goat herders and the Montana Militia are gonna rule the world.

But it could mutate into a totally different and possibly more dangerous strain in nature and we’d still not now how to combat it.

Or the strain that we mutated could be completely harmless to us.

+1 to the Tibetan Monks ruling idea.

These types of studies are set up so that version you end up with tends to be similar to the version nature is most likely end up with.

Simple mutations are way more likely to break shit, or make no noticeable difference, than they are to spit out something that works in a brand new way. Even less likely to spit out something that works in some particular brand new way that we should worry about.

What that means for this study is that there are probably very few possible simple changes that could make this virus go airborne, and the ones you get will tend to be the most likely/easiest to actually happen.

Yeah it could be, but they do check for that.

Is that a MissingNo plushie? I want that.

I really hope you’re kidding, because that’s total bullshit.

There would be probably have been a shit ton of diseases/viruses and what-have you from people fucking all kinds of animals.

And goodm0urning…SILENT FIGGGGGHHHTAAHHH

Wow… you really ARE dumb.

Kidding on which part? The monkey fucking start, or the equally valid point part?

I’m sure some diseases start like that anyway.

i try.
