PLEASE, let’s not start that again…
you’re missing the whole point.
only sentinel could do fast fly.
only mags could do ROM
not everyones combo setup was the same. combo diversity is a good thing
The really funny thing is that they’ve explicitly said they’re seeking that, and it already has in general more combo diversity than most of the previous vs. games had, and definitely more than ‘2’ had in the first few years of its life.
complaining about combo>launch>combo>finisher in a vs. game is very very silly.
Whatever diversity the game has, the infinite prevention system could still kill it if not tuned right.
On a different note, it seems that they are taking the “high-stakes poker” factor to heart in this game with the number of > 50% combos we’re seeing.
So that shit gets boring when everyone and their grandmother is doing it. There was no point in trying out the other characters when the sent fly/unfly and mag rom’s n storm was enough to wipe out the rest of the cast and get you by in the game.
So ya where is the diversity in that?
Me personally the combos look perfectly fine and diversified in mvc3. People are just whing becuz broken crap like AHVB or ROM or unfly/fly isnt in the game.
Iron Man has unfly, just no refly.
I agree with you guys about the combos being stale and boring. I still hope that the game changes dramatically, but I have my doubts
I’m sure that the inclusion of individual punch and kick buttons would help, instead of the 3 generic attacks. But, magic series can only be so diverse in the end.
This times a million.
Things like adding the stun-rod, or felicia’s ballchase as a combo-extender/crossup has already made the combos more interesting than they were in really any other vs. game, and we haven’t really even figured anything out yet.
Meh, ABC can be pretty diverse in the end, like any game it ends up depending on how cancellable/linkable/chainable every move is and how many command normals/specials a character has to end or extend combos… And of course, how viable those different options are. The last one is the most important part IMO… Right now ground series launch air series finisher seems the BnB, but how viable each finisher is ( air exchange, grounder, air special, air hyper etc. ), and how viable alternatives to launching after the ground series ( Chris’ extended ground combo we saw… ) is what’s really going to cinch the game one way or another.
No, they have not.
I knew that would be a controversial statement when I put it in, but what have other games had that are more interesting?
*I should have added that were developed in the first 2 years of their life, just to protect myself.
At least for some characters, it seems that the trick will be how they can follow up after an untechable knockdown even after launch.
the diversity is that everyone had different combos and ways to do them, like jill, guile, spiderman. it just happened that the higher tiers combos were more effective, and people are gonna go with what works.
and if i honestly saw someones grandmother doing ROM i would be hella impressed
Dude your name says it all. I hope people like you all get weeded out of MvC2 so that we can all really be able to play without going through the hundreds of scrubs like you on marvel. Seriously, it’s your generation of whiners that give up and cry without taking time and effort to learn and play the game. That’s why the state of capcom games are going the way it is. Catering to people that will pick up a game and drop it for the next “new” thing. Seriously, the game should be evolving, not getting simplified.
“MvC3 is terrible. It is the SF4-ization of Versus games: dumbed down, and made without any real understanding of what made the previous games fun or deep.
An easy way to sum up my hopes for the game is the evolution of the tag command. Tag was Back+Assist at E3, meaning you couldn’t defend and assist, you would tag instead. Then they “listened to the community” when everyone said what a horrible mechanic that was…so at Evo, they changed it to hold down the assist button for a few seconds. Yes, you can assist while defending, but you can’t tag on a moment’s notice anymore! Want to avoid that imminent chip death by tagging? Too bad!
They paint this as “we listened”, and they might change it again…but the fact remains, what this really shows is that they have no idea what they’re doing. Anyone who played MvC2 for any respectable length of time would know right away that both Back+Assist and [Assist] are not good implementations of how to tag…and yet both of those ideas got OK’d by their design team and were put into public builds of the game.
Now imagine those same people trying to ‘fix’ the rest of the game based on player feedback.
(To prove my point - since you can’t call assists during E moves anyway, what about E+A1 or E+A2? No problems there.)
After this new generation of fighters, I am very afraid that Capcom will actually try to make a new Darkstalkers or SF3-series game and ruin those franchises as well. I honestly don’t know who is swallowing this “more like MvC2 every day” stuff they keep shouting as each new build is worse than the last…”
Here we go again…
Apparently you weren’t around during E3, so let me give you some advice:
Projecting MVC2 onto MVC3 is going to do nothing but cause a whole lot of grief.
It’s a new game. New rules. New mechanics.
Either deal with it or don’t play. Period.
You could have done that post in 2 lines:
-
“I don’t like the tag input!”
-
“I DEMAND my oldschool cred!”
Or alternatively,
-
Capcom mimicked a suggestion we made
-
Capcom must know fuck all about making fighting games.
