I would say that the main difference in this besides race is that the white lady probably killed her child as per usual, but the Shockley’s case isn’t looking all the great either. I do find it funny that this shit is so obvious that even a white female journalist can see it clear as day.
vote #3 mostly
It’s been that way forever really.
I stil lremember when that chick fell into the well…folks acted like it was the end of the world, yet black kids were getting killed left and right. It’s always been a double standard.

(Oh gee, a race thread. This will end well.)
I’ll (try to) be concise for once.
Is the Jhessye case being largely ignored because she’s black? That almost doubtless figures into it. Is her being black the sole reason it’s being ignored? Probably not.
This case, which I actually do recall hearing about on the news at least once (I forget when and what channel, though), might have a better chance of being in the headlines if the other little girl was not only not missing on at the same time, but was also not white and not younger. It’s easier and more believable, but still dangerous, for a kindergartner to wonder off alone than it is a toddler who isn’t even a year old.
On top of that, it doesn’t really help that, while this toddler’s mother is a (white, good-looking–I guess) “tragic” if perhaps drunk divorcee figure, the kindergarten’s mother is a convicted criminal that yet again shows what a fuck up the American justice system is/can be and isn’t that attractive/as attractive. While you may think that the latter would make it more likely to be focused on rather than less just because of pure sensationalism and “she did it!” aspect of it, again, the other case going on currently kind takes away from the appeal of that I’d argue.
This isn’t to say that media is above either latching on to multiple “tragedies” for ratings or vilifying other innocent people who didn’t have anything to do with the (perceived) crime; it most certainly isn’t. It’s just that missing (white, girl) cases seem a bit more delicate. If you’re trying to invest your (idiotic) audience in the story you’re trying to sell to them, then you neither want to split up their attention between it and another incident, especially one so similar, nor do you want to turn them away from the incident for the second, potentially less clear cut incident.
As much as people rush to judgments about…well, everything, I imagine it’s easier and more ratings-beneficial to play on hopes of the child being alive everyday than a play on malicious judgment of hoping the seemingly obvious culprit gets locked up in this clearly open and shut case. Besides, bringing up the missing black story only to drop (or “have” to drop it) when something comes up with the missing white girl case (or vice versa, however unlikely) seems like it would also get some news outlets even more flack, so I can see why they just don’t bring it up at all.
P.S. Yes, I have failed.
P.P.S. Yes, I voted option three.
All this chatter when there’s a little white girl out there missing. For shame, SRK.
Hmm. It could be because of her race but with cases like these you never really know. My take on it is there are a lot of kidnappings out in the world every single day, you aren’t going to be hearing about all of them.
^Bigot.
Four word reply.
lol How does that make me a bigot? Whatevs, not gonna feed the troll.
Oh you hate trolls too, eh?
I was probably being facetious or something.
i don’t know anything about either of these cases, but i’m halfway around the world so i’ll happily take my hall pass and skip out on this.
d) Fuck them black & white kids, how about dem hispanics & asians, they never get any play whatsoever…
This is how I know I ain’t racist: I haven’t heard of either.
As I said before, nobody fucking white knights for black chicks. Think about it. “White” knight. “Black” chick. “White” knights ride in to battle for white princesses only k? None of the female protagonists in disney movies were black.
lol at 2009. How long has Disney been around? yeah, thought so.
If i remember correctly the prince wasn’t black either haha
Majority rules.
The majority of the US is white.
I wonder how many cases of missing (insert minority here) kids are widely publicized in (insert majority here) countries around the world.
You expect any different OP?
The news only does stories that get a lot of people watching. White people are the majority and most people in the U.S. can sympathize with a white girl more so than a black one. It’ll get more people watching.
It’s has nothing to do with racism though. It’s as racist as a black person clinging to his group of black friends in highschool when he could have attempted to make friends with white people. You tend to cling to people that look like you because you feel like you can relate more.
White kids, Black kids, Hell. I have enough trouble remembering where I am. I gotta stop drinking cheap ass vodka…
