Either two things can possibly happen from calling this dude out: 1) we get evidence of the problem or 2) we continue where we were. Truth is that this community has a serious issue facing the fact that the games as they hope to have them are not a reality.
But whatever, we can stay mad and unproductive or move forward.
This is why I am NOT looking forward to when A2 and A3 are put into a collection (you know it’s gonna happen). You’re going to have flamewars between those who prefer the arcade version (basically folks here) and those who would like to see the PS1 or PSP versions ported for the extra characters and World Tour mode.
Every time I hear something about Alpha 3, World Tour mode ALWAYS gets a mention.
Never played the PSone version of Alpha 3, what was so damn great about World Tour mode?
This would be the most likely outcome. They are using the PS2 version of Hunter and Savior for the ports; so porting over the PS2 game since like the best option.
You would have a flame war but to what end? Regardless of how much people will bitch and complain the practical options left are: keep the scene moving forward on a port or just quit altogether. For better or worse this hobby is a one way street and we are the ones on the receiving end.
Most likely to no end, at least for one side. The problem right now is that, somehow, we’ve actually created an ideological split between the folks who like to play these things competitively, and the “non-competitive fans.”
Anthology had world tour? And was arcade perfect?
It’s basically a trumped up singleplayer mode where you go around fighting other characters and building up your stats.
There’s no real ideological split. There’s the people who can still play these games at an arcade and the rest of us. So the people who still have an arcade can bitch and moan on SRK all they want about a less than perfect port; but the rest of us can only access these games in less than perfect form anyways.
On top of only having less than perfect ports, the only way to get the games back into tournaments is with those less than perfect ports. At the end of the day what we have is a bunch of people who are unwilling to compromise yet are not in a position to bring legitimate solutions to the issue. For them its no big deal because they can keep going to an arcade. But the rest of us have to deal with damage they cause by shitting all over the most accessible way to play the game.
Ports are awesome especially when you are a fan of a series. It’s cool to revisit and apply what you learned in the newer games to the older games. KOF '98 and '02 didn’t click with me until XIII. It wasn’t until I got into it that Dandy J’s tutorial clicked with me. Games made well, age well.
