Now you’re just being silly. Oh, you.
Quoting myself:
Now you’re just being silly. Oh, you.
Quoting myself:
Not a threat I don’t waste my breath on such things… there is no sexism or anything else in this community. A issue happened between two people. If you know this community then you know that is not us so its no reason to get into that via this situation
now
if you wanna have the discussion about the topic (In what reality is victim shaming and sexism acceptable? Or any form of bigotry?)in means of just having it overall…fine have at it
i dont get into it cause i dont do it nor involve myself with such things. So again no threats… either you support this community an find a solution to teach people of how we really work an help mold them into this now ‘popular’ era of fighting games or dont say anything at all. Just sayin as others have in this case we (serious folks) have moved on… some peoples just want to react to react an not looking big picture thus your getting that feeling that omg how can you guys think that way…
“No sexism”? What? Have you ignored the whole Aris debacle?
Aris is not the community.
The same way the words of Floyd Mayweather towards Jeremy Lin does not reflect the opinions of the black community.
The same way the behaviour of Jenny Hyun doesn’t mean all asians want to get rid of black people.
Can we just accept that we have our bad apples like any other community and move on instead of making it seem like the community itself as a whole is a bad apple?
I apologise for my somewhat aggressive posturing in this thread. I just want to stress that I do understand that Aris doesn’t represent the community as a whole. It is the responses, the defense of Aris and the hastiness in which some blamed the victim, that i find hurts the community.
Not so much Aris himself, but how we’ve all reacted.
To quote DJ WHeat: NO NO NO NO NO NO NO. What does Floyd Mayweather talking shit about Jeremy Lin have to do with the situation?
Yep, DJ WHeat is a fucking idiot.
I swore I said this a few pages back.
I need to have koop post for me since yall ignore women (j/k)
Sent using my Evo…not the 3D ish…eff 3D!
When you have a bad apple, you want to separate it, else it spoils the barrel. When someone is bringing the rest of a group down, that person should be ostracized. That’s what the idiom means.
If people in the community don’t express their disapproval of aberrant behavior, then the behavior will not be corrected. By placing the burden of social correction completely on the targeted party (the, “it’s up to her to get offended or not” dismissal), you are endorsing the behavior of the aggressor. That way, you allow the bad apple to spoil the bunch.
This discussion probably won’t get people to change their minds, but it does serve the purpose of “apple separation”.
Last time.
Aris is part of this community. Aris made a mistake he knew he fucked up simple and plain. ** Aris apologized**. I can not nor can anyone else defend the man when he already CONFESSED and APOLOGIZED twice for his actions in which he knew he was wrong. An if you know Aris on a personal level then you know he will never let it happen again… his ego/status like some other people in our community got a lil too big an they felt like they could do anything… trust i know the guy it hitting him pretty good…
end of it
Its not sexism in this community. people that say it is dont know the community nor the personalities in it. People reaction/defense for ARIS are ones who don’t know ARIS nor really know how things go down in this community… people who jump at miranda dont know life/women as a whole… simple as that so you cant take thier words at all…
I ignored all of that an only payed attention to those INVOLVED. After they spoke an ENDED it that was it. Nothing more. The next issue is how do you find your grounding and eliminate such things ever happening again since we do have a spotlight on us (an not cause of that but saying we are popular now). We so busy trying to point out flaws an not protect what we have an who we are seriously that now your letting the competition slowly and easily separate the community as a whole (PLEASE SEE MLG)… its why i posted cause we are looking unorganized.
so last time. if you have a issue about sexism…victimizing as a whole. we have a thread. as far as this situation, YOU can not listen to outside parties for true definitive answer especially if they dont put in nor support an only contribute post via a stream chat or websites like this. Aris and Miranda situation is closed an people that have common sense an have love for this community wont let it happen again…
I acknowledge your points, and you are right about the community needing to do something and create it’s own solutions to the problems that it encounters.
I apologise for being so abrasive, truth be told I am glad to be part of the community.
I respectfully bow out. Hopefully I won’t be judged too harshly, for my views.
The ultimate problem is that it is sexism in the community. It’s omnipresent.
It’s also the nature of communities (and people!) to not see their own prejudices, I mean who would?
Still, It wasn’t just Aris being insane or Capcom not putting a stop to it, it was the reaction of a vast majority of the community… or the way any other woman is treated here.
And repeat, there have been stories,
[]The ugly shit BurnYourBra had to go through
[]The girl who posted a blog earlier talking about how tournaments are unpleasant because (among other things) of guys grabbing her at random

The woman quoted earlier saying that she doesn’t even go to events anymore because of the constant creepy/sexual crap makes it not worthwhile
Not to mention that the vast majority of people who speak up seem absolutely unable to admit that a woman might have skill. I talked about this some earlier, but that’s probably the most telling thing as far as actual prejudice.
If a gay guy is good at the game and gets some attention for it, nobody says he’s not actually good because he’s gay
If a black guy is good at the game and gets some attention for it, nobody says he’s not actually good because he’s black.
If that disabled guy that can’t play with his hands (but uses adaptive controls) does well, nobody says ‘it’s just tokenism because he’s handicapped!’
and yet, if any woman is good and gets positive attention, the *vast majority *of the comments you see are that she’s not actually any good and is just getting attention because she’s hot… followed by the rest of the people saying ‘no she’s not really hot at all’.
The default setting of the internet is asshole, we all know that. But there’s a massive difference between the way women are treated and the way any other minority are treated. You see it every time.
You see it with Kayane, you see it with Sherry (and I’ll be upfront, I loathe Sherry, but it doesn’t mean she should be treated unfairly), you saw it with BYB, you see it with Miranda.
There’s so much shit that needs to get address/ explained about this community…Back to grinding that keyboard tomorrow.
It’s a touchy subjected, tempers are expected to flare and people to disagree.
wake me up when a woman wins EVO.
in the meantime, ill keep in mind the saying “while you aren’t practicing someone else out there is and when you meet him he will beat you”.
Shut up Xesaie.
do you attend tournies or watch them??? do you speak with said players mentioned cause I DO…
Burn your bra had her issue not cause of sexism… she had to learn a lot as far as how matchups an tournaments are handled. Not cause she had a issue playing… or a issue of someone touching her or calling her out. That has NEVER been a problem. Online via chats an websites that another story. You can’t control someone opinion via those medias
The girl who posted a blog about being randomly touched… please inform us of when an where. An if that occurred she could have easily told ANY TOURNAMENT STAFF an trust an believe they would have been on it. Again if YOU KNOW THIS COMMUNITY then you know your SERIOUS organizers an the staff within. Never have I see a issue of such nature. Now if you say brackets… not paying fees… being dq’d a lil too fast. hey I can co sign. Yet someone write she was touched. Really?? Not saying I don’t believe her its I have seem my share of jam packed crowds an you know whats really amazing…women usually get it easy making it through crowds. I remember a good buddy of mine who plays was making it through a crowd… a guys an accidently brushed her… she looked an he apologized with this look of omg im soo sorry an that was that. the female population of PLAYERS or supporters have not said I have a issue with our tournaments… issues I have heard was… getting more assist as understanding the OS of the game… wanting to take on their own first round instead of a guy off the break…
She doesnt go because of he constant creepy sexual crap… lord. How do you go off of open ended statements. Amazingly everyone that complains or tries to bash can never break down WHO, WHAT, WHEN, and WHERE.
Yeah we as serious players dont bother about your sex. We will play you. If youve been to tournies…yet again…you will see they are lined up in the bracket AS IS. Hell at certain West Coast tournies the ladies get their own tourny… then they asked to simply play with the fellas. So again WE as players do not play a prejudice card… we accept all competition regardless of race, sex, handicapp…IF YOU PLAY YOU PLAY.
Stop using the internet as a reason or point. Its the internet. If you are really into what this community is you can sit back an laugh at all of this cause we dont dwell into the things stated. The internet audience are just that an audience that will reflect their own opinions on all levels. you can sit an use what you see on streams or chats an think that is us. yes some of our finest player got caught up into the EGO driven hype an wanted to cater to them an you see where it got them.
My point is… everyone suddenly has something to say but nothing to help. Everything that has happened we have moved on and will ensure it doesnt arise again. Shall I remind everyone that knows there history of how RICKY ORTIZ got bashed an yet we as his fellow competitors an supports has moved on… yet still to this day you got the lovely online crowd still having lovely commentary…that does not reflect us
Well let’s be real, there’s maybe 5 people per game that have a non-fluke chance of winning evo.
Koop: You're choosing to see it how you WANT to see it, ie you're *defending the community, right or wrong*.
My whole thing, the reason I'm still here beating my head against this crap, is because I just want people to admit the problem. I don't have any illusions that anything in this thread will change anything, but its hard to let go of the blind tribalism.
Just admit the problem, we can make this all go away.
oh lord, xesaie posting shit as usual
After reading BurnYourBra’s Twitter status, maybe people in the community should worry less about their free speech to insult women or defend those who harass women and worry more about buying a bar of soap.
