A Litany of Hate: In Defense of the FGC

I just want to mention that I have no problem with E-sports if that’s the way the community wants to go that’s fine with me. However let’s not kid ourselves that cleaning up the FGC is going to end the drama. In fact it might even pave the way to more drama.

Hypocrisy: The “We are not like that” crowd needs to stop. Aris, Marn and much of the fighting game community has been acting like that for years and it’s never been a problem. Maybe we don’t act like that but we know a lot of people that do and we never did anything about it. Trying to backpedal trying to cover up saying that these people were never part of the FGC is only going to lead to more drama.

Censorship: So people are making calls to set the tone and not encourage bad behavior, why? So we can become like E-Sports? Well expect even more drama as a lot of people don’t care about the money or being PC, they just want to have fun. Video games were supposed to be about having fun, right?

Kotaku: People are saying that if we behave ourselves that Kotaku is gonna go away. Wrong. Kotaku is never going to go away now that they know we are afraid of their yellow journalism. And with all the drama going on with the FGC witch hunt, what’s stopping someone like Aris from going there and blowing everybody’s spot up? Nothing now, the loyalty is gone.

Selling Out: When Evo selections and tournaments become more about money and popularity and less about skill of the players, expect a lot more drama. Expect a lot more politics, expect a lot more players that simply don’t care about the FGC in general.

So how do we end the drama once and for all? Stop the Hypocrisy, stop trying to enforce censorship, stop caring what yellow journalists say about us, and basically stop trying to turn the FGC into something it’s not.

Larry, aka Shin Blanka ( TO for FR) basically thanked the ppl for coming out and then told everyone about his mother dying 2 days ago, and that through that he’s worked hard for the event then everyone in the building gave him a standing ovation and was chanting something. It brought tears to my eyes, no joke

Exactly, the loyalty is gone, I don’t feel that SRK has the communities back anymore.

“Man who host event gives moving opening speech”

Goes back to newsworthiness man, that’s no headline

since you’ve been pretty vocal about things that have happened recently with regard to gender relations, etc: care to explain why your avatar is some kind of sexualized loli demon?

It’s the evil grin. Also, I like purple.

Stop being a dick. You talk all this shit about people being politically incorrect then bash a dude for giving a speech at his own event with a part of the subject being that his mother died and he ran the event anyway?

Spare me.

that’s cool that you want to perpetuate the sexualization of children just so you can have an avatar with an “evil grin” and “purple”, meanwhile i’m sure plenty of people that like both of those things can find a fitting avatar without, uh, some kind of weird ass bondage loli

(presuming that’s addressed to me)

I’m sorry, then, that really wasn’t my intent.

Still, its just not particularly newsworthy to them. People need to get through their head what motivates places like Kotaku, which was the (intended) point of my post.

A good moving speech by the mayor of Issaquah probably woudln’t get a headline in the Seattle times, there’s not enough of a story there. It’s the same kind of thing.

major blogs and publications would ignore any good and moving speech, obviously the way to counter this injustice is to make sure the communities that said speeches are involved in also ignore them, yeah, that makes perfect sense

TMG, ya might wanna calm down some, you seem a bit pisst.

In general, it’s a dead end to try to ‘gotcha’ me… because its obvious to anyone that’s what you’re doing.

Making it about the person you don’t agree with, and trying to put them on the defensive, that’s internet 101.

On actual subject, the thing I'm trying to get across there is that Kotaku doesn't owe the FGC anything. They don't have to run counter stories to balance out the ones people didn't like.

Predictabooo

Timing was pretty good.

I dont agree with any of this shit PERIOD. This whole Mature up / change the way we are Sugarcoat Bullshit.
Furthermore, the way whole situation is evolving & what it surprising excelled too.
Nothings gonna change my mindset because the way I am period.

& my condolences to Larry. That’s some hard shit to deal with in life, losing your mother.

lol

it’s a “dead end” becuase there’s no way out of it, as in, there’s no reasonable rebuttal that you could post to prove what i’m saying about you is wrong

additionally though, it’s not unfounded, because you’ve posted before about how you need to be “consistent” and be aware of what you’re “representing”, in your hundreds of posts spanning multiple threads about “e-sports” where you defended sociopathic greed over communities that are made of real people, so it just doesn’t seem “consistent” to me that you’re against all of the sexism ingrained in the FGC and knowingly perpetuate bad things related to the same issue at the same time

Fanatiq’s State of the Union is on

I’m not sure this is the place for that discussion, but you entirely don’t understand where I’m coming from.

but just really quick:

eSports: The entire issue isn’t Esports or not, its just a fight for who’s in control, between the SRK guys (and their lackies) and the MLG guys. I don’t like them trying to manipulate folks into saying they’re different, it’s exactly the same. It’s also inevitable, unless you want to abandon Evo and SRK.

Avatar: I’ve never had a complaint about the avatar, except you trying to ‘gotcha*’ me. if I got a legit complaint, I’d gladly change it… but I never have (again, I’ve never gotten ANY complaint before you, and you don’t actually care).

*Gotcha ™ George W. Bush

Anyways, sorry to everyone else about this diversion into 'all about xesaie', but sometimes you just have to answer people to put it out of the way.

yeah, a cool way to “put out of the way” someone’s issue with your arguing against sexism while perpetuating harmful sexual deviancy is by saying “you never PMed me about it with a heartfelt request to change my avatar”

you can say this is “off-topic” all you want but you’re advocating against sexism in the FGC yet you “represent” yourself with something that would, in most normal people’s minds, make them question your sincerity. I guess that isn’t an issue in this discussion though, I guess it’s “irrelevant” if someone advocates one thing and does another. I guess I could advocate for equality in the FGC all day even if my avatar was a big sign that said “Beating Women Up Is Really Cool” so long as I only liked it for the “purple font” and “blingee decorations” that I dress the text up with

read most of the thread. all i know is:

  1. i want to see a major that is commentated like a golf game just to see what it’d look like (it actually could be pretty funny; sponsors wouldn’t be upset; and it would be interesting to see how the gaming news sites would react. they smell blood in the water. the next major will receive much scrutiny. crowds quietly golf-claping for 1 pixel comebacks would be amazing).

  2. xesaie posted way too much in this thread for me not to feel he or she took the air out of it. (don’t respond to me. i won’t post back.)

Ah the esport debate ,I don’t think esports are the next level we don’t have to hit mlg like presentation or atmosphere to say we have arrived. We for the most part create our own controllers ,set ups, general rules ( soft bans). To garner more players, revenue, sponsors we don’t need to copy mlg at all.We are doing a good job as is money is flowing ,tournaments are booming, new faces are showing up and making waves. Sponsorship is a tricky thing to me it’s hard for me to understand because we really don’t use too much hardware.
