You didn’t read anything in this thread if you are still blaming SuperYan at all. She was the victim, period. She was not playing victim, she was the victim. I don’t know why this is so hard for people to comprehend. Joking or not, it was bad and she was not in the wrong at all.

To your point however, she’s getting over it and even outright tweeted it. In her tweet she talks about how she realized that it was the FGC that not only shat on her (such as yourself for saying she is playing a victim) but also the same FGC that brought her up and was positive, like many of her close friends and even some “white knights” as people like to throw around that term in this thread.

After sitting back for a few pages I think the idea of what to do is getting clear and Koop summed it up quite well. We need to start changing things in such a way where we don’t change who we are while “Keeping it Classy”. Keep your dumb racist sexist remarks off stream and to yourself.

Also if anyone has been listening to sp00ky this morning on his stream at Final Round he mentioned that he will keep doing what hes doing no matter what. He reiterates that he has always tried to keep it classy but admits he sometimes slips and says he is going to try to improve himself without changing himself. I believe he said something along the lines of “I’ll keep doing what I’m doing, and I’ll be straight up and go to the EVO crew and say ‘If you need me, I’m here, if not then that’s that’” That’s a good mentality to have and as long as we can change for the better, we don’t have to lose who we are in the long run.

This whole ordeal reminds me of what happened, a while back, at the NYU Game Center when S-Kill, Sirlin, and Sabin had that lecture about balance in video games and that one professor just had to ask them about Cammy’s SFIV win pose. Which then led to a short debate about misogyny in fighting games and the FGC. Was that just creepy foreshadowing?

On the topic of WNF and losing Evo Points :
A scene that cracks down on colorful commentary is worse than one that practices casual harrassment. I’d trade away Inkblot’s articles for Marn’s commentary.

Punishing with loss of Evo points is a dick move but also stupid. It is stupid because those points are seeds and serve Evo by letting the top 16 players have a better shot of making top 16 and bringing hype. It is literally making the top 16 more boring and less competitive. Top two will still make pay but that’s the only real guarantee they have. The seeds are for the spectators and the tournament organizers as much as it is a ranking of the players.
It is a dick move because it takes away a competitive ranking over some political issue. It would be like Sports Illustrated knocking Wilt Chamberlain down a few ranks on their “Best B-Ball Players Ever” list because “he’s a womanizer and that’s not cool”. Yeah they own the list but its not an honest ranking when we are talking about putting balls in baskets. Inkblot is literally refusing to rank competitive players because “sexual harrassment is not cool”. Yeah its not cool but what has that to do with reducing someone’s lifebar to zero?

Idk, I like to think of the FGC as the Hip Hop Community, more specifically the battle rap community.

Where they battle using sexist, obscene, relatively offensive subject matter and language to win. I actually used to be a part of it a lil bit. Pretty hostile when you get into it, but then you get used to the whole “Ima kill you vibe” when you’re in there for while. Now from the outside “world” I wont say it seems offensive, but it is offensive. And thats why it doesnt have alot of money invested into it.

Point is, I feel the FGC is cool where its at, but certainly not for the newer cats or those outside. So if we want to grow, and have more money invested into our community then you’re gonna have to let that underground aspect that personally Im really fond of and embrace this thing we like to call “E-Sports”.

Lets jus hope that if we do, we dont get to the SC level

I posted this somewhere else but I’ll report it here since you guys are talking about it. Not that it means anything, but its my 2 cents.

I think the original controversy was bad and needed addressing. That guy Aris was just being creepy and should have stopped once she said that she was getting creeped out.

However, what was said at WNF was NO WHERE even remotely as bad. SRK pulling EVO points from Level Up’s event was bullshit. Here’s my thing. The people in the fighting game community haven’t changed, we’ve been clowning like this from the beginning. The only difference is our community has grown and people outside of the community are watching now. It can’t be helped that some people will knit pick at things. That’s what happens with growth. If its a legitimate problem, then it needs to be addressed. But what happened at WNF this past week was not an issue. Kotaku posted that blog in order to prolong the controversy from the cross assault incident to generate traffic for their site. Once the guest commentators apologized, that should have been it. Those guys don’t even WORK for Level Up. When SRK dropped EVO points from WNF, they took a shit on the community. SRK fucked everyone that attends WNF, not just Level Up. Why is SRK bending over backwards and pissing off the people IN the FGC to please Kotaku’s audience? Kotaku doesn’t sponsor events, they don’t contribute to our community in any way.

In the end, I think the way SRK dropped WNF, they turn their back on our region and our community. And when July rolls around, lets see if anyone from Kotaku comes out to EVO to support it.

No it does not. Everyone you mentioned knows how to entertain on the mic. If you pay attention to A LOT of YIPES commentary… it works it into the game play. Tell YIPES its a local an you can go in… he will but not in a way that is overboard… listen to the man. Also note he has MC’d Evo at one point.

At Winter Brawl Yipes complimented with Chris they gave the best commentary ever an slim to no cursing or out of pocket commentary…

Your not losing YIPES style an charisma he gives… NOTHING will change. He can give it to you how you want it EVEN in spanish. Chill. The change will be SELECTED individuals whom can COMMENTATE. No just spew off the mouth to entertain the online audience. JChensor noted this when ‘commentary’ really got into the art of streaming tournaments…

No the fgc isn’t dead it needs to mature to a degree Its like with the Nba dress up and off court policy’s on where you can’t go in certain cities .We got to take ourselves seriously to a degree to have control for the most part we are the ones sustaining the fighting game genre and we have lots of control over content,mechanics and gameplay.We gotta step it up I’m not saying make this the Us open or anything but we do need to understand we aren’t insular anymore we have expanded and the gaming world is looking at us to see what we do next.We have major organizations like UFC,WWE looking and taking cues from us .If the fgc was the same way it was 6 years ago it would be dead .

It’s really quite simple, look at it in these terms. The FGC is like an underground no holds barred martial arts tournament. You got guys killing each other, using chairs and baseball bats, eye gouging, rabbit punches, no rules. You got rowdy shady people, fistfights, anything goes.

It’s not, but people like to pretend it is.

That’s a big part of the problem, people are trying to live up to this fake idea they have of the community, and they end up going places they really don’t need to.
