“Agendas”?
What are those?
“Agendas”?
What are those?
Like I said, my last sentence was not a jab. If the community is fine where it is right now, then that’s fine. I don’t want to see it commercialized either. It’s a community choice.
im not the first to de rail. The issue here is and will be money, not ethics like you make it seem. Nobody would have given a fucking shit 1 year ago, and just goes to show how the large influx of money into FG has turned the community into a festering pile of shit. And goes to show that the “scene” will do anything to put a false image and bend over at will the possibility of money being taken away. That’s the real cancer that’s killing the scene. Not some idea of an old guard.
THat’s only possible because people are willing to shit money to watch people play, rather than play the game. the last thing we need is a large influx of players who don’t play the game and petition on a whim’s notice and demand a patch because their favorite player said X character was broken.
It’s a money issue for the Evo guys and for Capcom.
It’s an ethics issue for the rest of us, this started with way too many excuses for bad behavior
It’s WNF’s fault for letting Marn anywhere near a microphone. You’d think they’d know after all these years.
Leave the politics to Mr. Wizard & co.
And blaming Kotaku because they’re supposedly terrible is not an excuse.
Ugh no its not. People only care because somebody said something because he saw that potential revenue was going to be lost. Its an Money/Image issue first before its an ethical one.
Why can’t the statement be.
Rather than we change for them, why don’t they integrate like everybody before them.
This new age FGC is pretty fucking tame and boring. The hype and passion isn’t there any more.
The whole racial comment shit is hypocritical in itself.
ex. if a black man were to say nigger, its perfectly fine, if a white man says it he needs to do a public apology and probably gets fired.
No, there’s an underlying problem where the FGC is fucking awful to women. It’s something that needs to be fixed, regardless of the money situation.
If the money thing forces the the Cannons to step in, and bitch slap some events, its at least a way to effect the necessary change.
I think there might be outstanding circumstances in this particular example.
yet if both person were to have said it in the exact manner in the exact situation, one would still be “politically correct” while the other will be prosecuted.
Lets see,
thousands of male players get shitted on. And then there happens to be like only 5 females competing. Jeez I fucking wonder what the possible outcomes of this scenario are. I also wonder why Im going to hear that those 5 females feel like they are being single out.
Well guess what, everybody gets shitted on for being white/black/gay/whatever, just becuase you a vagina doesn’t mean you aren’t fair game. You want equality, then start a petition where making fun of anybody for being whatever is a fucking crime.
If you don’t want Kotaku to write negative things about the fighting game community, then stop giving them negative things to write about.
It’s not that hard.
I wonder how Alex Valle feels about all this? I remember when he was on Cross Counter Live explaining why they were going from the Proud Bird venue to Super Arcade he said it was in order to get a more grass roots feel again. The reaction from SRK and pulling of the EVO points form the whole event because of some things said on stream seems to run counter to that mindset.
Dude, you just have to pay attention to see the difference. People don’t say Floe is a fraud because he’s fat, or that Ricky Ortiz is a fraud because he’s gay, or that Noel Brown is a fraud because he’s black.
And yet, every woman to play is called a fraud (explicitly) because she’s female. And gets constant inappropriate creepy-touchy comments (and sometimes actual touches) to boot.
There’s a whole different level of hostility.
I wonder what the contract between SRK and WNF said about this kind of incident, anyway.
this happens to all minorities in any kind of community
Sounds like splitting hairs man. I’ve seen plenty of homophobic comments over the years about Ricky and others. What difference does it make whether they are about his skill in game or not?
Except for the examples I just listed where it doesn’t particularly happen in this community.
the FGC is weird because its in generally extremely accepting to all groups-- except to women.
Wow, you really convinced me. I now may need to go reconsider my earlier statement.
/sarcasm
In most of those other cases it’s only at normal stream monster/internet retard levels, the intensity with which women get crap really stands out.
The ‘fraud’ thing is of note because it’s kind of a negation. Recognizing skill is the ultimate, and arguably only meaningful recognition there is in this culture. It’s also the respect that’s not really denied to other minorities.
Everything can be forgiven for skill in this genre (see F.Champ and Noel) except not having a dick.
