A Litany of Hate: In Defense of the FGC

Excellent piece. It was so great I had to read it twice.

GG, my friend. GG.

I don’t like being the “This” guy, but… well-put.

I know sites like Kotaku can blow these issues out of proportion when they don’t have experience in the community. I can understand the community’s concerns with becoming “PG” or whatever other term. I enjoy and appreciate the more homey, intimate (perhaps not the best word considering the topic at hand) events, with rougher atmospheres and human energy. I like hearing Yipes and those like him go off on stream. But I think people are getting too caught up in the gray area between messing around and messing around, but with creepy undertones. It’s fun to explore those boundaries. But it shouldn’t be that massive a deal. Use your judgment to determine whether saying something/hearing what someone else says is just good fun or might make someone feel threatened. I trust most of you were raised with judgment skills?

Personally, I’d like the scene to retain some of its rougher roots while maintaining some self-control and professionalism. “Getting hype” is still possible without being loud. Apparently we can’t ever get close to this ideal though and that it’s either one or the other, so whatever.

But hey, we’re having fun here, right? Maybe the majority of the community is fine with the FG scene being the rough one, the scene that doesn’t offer huge prize money for those who’ve worked so hard to become good at what they love doing. If it doesn’t, then that’s okay if the scene doesn’t grow. Your choice.

(I’m going to break any notion of tone here and say that last line wasn’t a jab)

All this drama is makin my head hurt.
Only thing I care about when gaming amongst a bunch of people is having a good time.
Yeah trash talk will happen, but I don’t want the mess to get out of hand to the point that fists start to fly for real. I like hearing commentary Yipes-style, sure full of language, but doesn’t (at least I hope not) get to the point of getting someone riled up for real.

…Say, wouldn’t it be nice if we had some commentators take a clue and do what those color commentators of the likes of wrestling (like WWE) do? Like with the good old days of Jim Ross and Jerry Lawler.

Just don’t let dumb things ‘slip out’ (note the quotes) when trying to ‘explain’ yourself like Aris did.

…my head STILL hurts trying to process all this super drama.

So with that…I’ll leave this video as to what I’ve observed of the whole shebang:

Ok i should have clarified myself. Anything that doesn’t include the obvious thing anyone would know finding out about the FGC yesterday. Some raw shit. Something that shows our true nature. I guess you got me on BYB. I guess for her she felt offended that people wanted her to lose on looks alone, but i guess all men are guilty on that.

the problem is that sexual harassment is only when ugly fuckers are bad at flirting , if it was brad pit and not aris ugly ass , she would have buried his head in her crouch asap…to get a sniff

And aris, dont know if his family died in a car crash, but i guess he did not think anyone like her family member’s would be watching her on stream wondering what the fuck this is, a show about gaming , but with a bearded freak wanting to sex her up and play porn director with the camera and then this chat box with nothing but quotes about wanting to rub lotion on her thighs and dudes wanting to suck haunts dick…

I just think BurnYourBra’s handle is stupid, but I guess I’m not one to talk about dumb handles.

Well not all, (and I grant this might be sexist in of itself), I wanted her to win MORE because she wasn’t some little waif hottie :stuck_out_tongue: I liked her ‘I don’t give a fuck what you think!’ attitude.

Its kind of a pain to look up, but just about every time a woman comes up in an event, it seems like 2/3ds of the commentary are ‘she’s not actually that good, she’s just there because she has a vagina’ or sexual objectification.

There’s also the girl linked to earlier talking about how she has a problem with guys and their grabby hands when she goes to tournaments, that shouldn’t happen.

This is why some people should not have children.
Ugly dudes have a monopoly on rape or creepy behavior right?

I dunno, your handle doesn’t seem quite as confrontational

What really baffles my mind is that cross assault was popular. I mean, I remember when I saw the first episode up on the front page and read the description, I immediately went “well that sounds stupid” and never gave it a second thought.

I love her name, its clever and funny :stuck_out_tongue:

I watched about 1/3 of the first day because I didn’t know what it actually was. Then I was horrified and bored, and left. Aris was ALREADY creepy and out of hand partway through day one though

You cannot be serious. Have you ever considered that the sexist undertones might be one of the reasons why female players are reluctant to join in, especially when they’re so outnumbered as you pointed out?

You’re a fucking idiot.

but it was not rape…it was a fat bearded guy that cant or has no way around a girl…

How many views did it get?

I’d guess because of the brand recognition of both Street Fighter and Tekken combined, maybe. Honestly, I watched it to get footage to see how it played out.

  • Edit -
Also, with regards to WNF being no longer supported by SRK/EVO:
    What in the actual hell.
Who or what thought this was a good idea?
The action of two commentators, ones who were only guests, does not reflect the whole of Levelup, or even the whole of WNF. This isn’t going to stop problem gamers from being discriminate – this is going to stop FGC streamers from streaming, especially if the action of every single individual (of which there are usually way too many for one person/team to have complete control over) will be directly linked to the company providing it -shocker- they won’t.

Hahahahaha exactly no rapes at tourneys…so there never has been a problem its all over blown bullshit… in a pc world for all 6 girls playing fighting games… this over abundance of chics you think are being held back…there maybee 6 other girls…so all this to add 12 chicks to the scene…

It is unfortunate that a few people can ruin the general appearance of the community, although it is easy to understand why. A couple of rude, obnoxious people can easily become the center of attention just for their behavior alone. Look at Idra from competitive Starcraft, he is well known because of his actions. His outbursts are legendary among anyone who is focused on Starcraft, if not he would just be another person who plays competitively. Their behavior is assumed to be stereotypical of those players because it stands out much more than people having a handshake and a laugh after a match.

The Aris and Marn incidents are a setback. Whether they will man up and change their ways is up to them. Think of it as this: Would Seth Killian be where he is today if he acted like Aris or Marn? Working in a positive, constructive way leads to being recognized in a better light rather than being a jerk.

That is (maybe was) how FG is.

Xesaie’s message: Don’t harass women, everyone else is fair game.

If you honestly think this kind of sexual harassment is okay as long as you don’t physically assault women, you’re human garbage.

Wow, that’s a massive misrepresentation.

It’s not about me of course, but I should say that if you think I’ve harassed somebody, you’re not very clear on what the term actually means.

i did not say it was ok , its fucking life…You put a white boy in a room with 100 black guys he is gonna fill uncomfortable…same thing if you bring 3 black guys to a clan meeting. And yes if no one got fucked it aint shit or grabbed a tittie…there always gonna be assholes ,its life.
