Does anyone else not really care what a bunch of people who don’t play fighting games think of people who do play fighting games? In two weeks when everyone has had their fun shitting on “the FGC” they’ll move on feeling superior, and we’ll just get back to what we’re doing.
Hah I honestly don’t remember him doing that. Maybe my memory is just whitewashing his commentary ><
Or maybe it seems different to me because its not personal?
There’s a difference between what aris did, or BYB being harassed at Evo, and kind of general nasty language. Or at least it seems like that to me.
Or we could take this opportunity to address an actual real problem that got actual justified criticism when the general gaming press noticed it.
Lets clean up our own house.
I didn’t care until I realized how much unnecessary changes that happened becuase of it. WNF removed seed points? SFxT will be the death of us.
Good job, Level Up. Cleaning up the stream for the people that dont even watch.
The people who have never ever been to a fg event suddenly know that the community has a sexist problem?
The least I can do for this place is give a fuck.
I can’t even blame Tom/Cannons/SRK/EVO, they are pretty much the leaders of the FGC in the eyes of many inside and outside of the community and he/they had to show how serious this thing is and make an example out of them and they will not tolerate it thus showing the FGC does not tolerate it. They get that the majority will judge us based on just a few us.
Well again, Aris made it worse by saying Sexual harassment is inherent to the nature of the FGC. And then people like watson going out of their way to immediately defend him made it even more clear.
The Aris/Super_Yan case was an absolutely clear cut case of sexual harassment, textbook even. If everybody had condemned him and talked about how it wasn’t really like that, instead of defending him and going after her, the story wouldn’t have had the legs that it did.
^ See, this is in a hype situation. I don’t agree with making a big deal out of this or even taking it seriously. Have none of you ever been, say, mad at someone and let slip a homophobic or sexist remark? Like, you obviously didn’t mean it right? You just couldn’t think of a PG filtered term in the heat of the moment. You have milliseconds to review your choice of words and that’s just not enough time. On the internet, sure, you can re-read through what you say a thousand times to make sure everything’s correct and well-worded - making sure not to offend anyone you don’t intend to. But when you’re commentating a 297 second match (tops) and want to provide entertaining commentary throughout the whole thing you’re not going to think "Ok, if I say this they’re going to think I’m sexist, so I better say this instead’. You’re going to say the first thing that pops into your head and I think we should take any sexist or homophobic statement by a commentator with a grain of salt.
Of course, this isn’t comparable to Aris’ actions. He was in a controlled environment - sure, he was pissed, which is why he phrased some of what he said wrong in the discussion he had with Jared - but his actions were uncalled for. Aris is an entirely different subject tho. So is Marn and ETR, actually. Marn and ETR were making light, not of sexism, but the whole ordeal it is causing in the community. They were parodying the idea that they have to watch every word they say, as it could end up on a major gaming website and they could be shunned from the community because of it. Oddly enough, they were apparently right. Now they’re not allowed to commentate simply because they made light of the issue. That doesn’t sound a little fucked up? I mean, Marn isn’t the greatest guy in the universe but he didn’t say anything worthy of being banned from commentating. That was harsh and uncalled for.
But yeah, no commentator should be shunned simply because they made sexist remarks during the heat of the moment. If everything’s calm and it’s an actual homophobic/sexist remark intended to be a big ‘fuck you’ to those communities, then sure, ban them. That’s fair. But if you’re honestly going to tell me that, in an adrenaline filled rant during a hype-as-shit grand finals, the commentator should think about exactly what he’s saying before he says as to not offend anyone… I don’t know what’s wrong with you. I’d really love to see anyone do that, to be honest.
Edit: OMG I just watched that Marvel 2 video! Yipes said “nigga”! Uh, racist much? I think you’ll find if you look that term up on Webster’s Dictionary which I can site and source for a few paragraphs if you’d like, that that is a very hateful term toward black people. I think this man should be removed from commentating as he has just offended my entire race of people.
People are already on it obviously. Just seems like since this shit dropped, every random person on SRK is so afraid of Aris making us look bad to…a bunch of random people who don’t play fighting games? I sympathize for Miranda 100%, but how this resonates in the ESports world I couldn’t care less about, but maybe that’s just me.
You actually think Capcom is happy with all this negativity? Won’t be surprised to see Capcom pull some prize money out of the events , or even ask eSports leagues to host there 500k tournament.
The only thing I’m worried about is that the eSports backlash hitting the forums, since the Cannons are all of a sudden extremely worried about the site’s image.
My Proclamation?
Every other post besides the OP is stupid and should be deleted
count me on that group
I wonder how many people are screaming “change the FGC” but enjoy shows like South Park?
STay Free
and then
lol
What’s the worst that could happen? Correct me if I’m wrong, but Aris has his own website, and this site is really just associated with Evo more than specific players, so I don’t see what could really happen. It’s not like that match fixing scandal from BW killed teamliquid. Is anybody quitting SF over this?
IMO all the people acting like SF is some shit about “Honour” and “respect” and “for my homies” are retarded. It is a videogame with bigass buttons where stupid looking cartoons hit each other, stop acting like it is bigger than something it isn’t.
It’s not suddenly, people been wanting it to be like old SRK for a while now.
lol esports.
we play games for fun. if the reason you go out and play people is to be sponsored then you’re doing it wrong.
