A.I.M. Labs: M.O.D.O.K. Video Thread

I made another team combo video if anyone cares… this time with Dorm/MODOK/Doom. I’ve been meaning to pick up Dorm for awhile now, but I still haven’t quite understood the character yet. I also threw in some damage comparisons with Dok’s BnB with different starters. 1,000k (throws, j.L) to 1,150k (cr.H) for 2 bars.

^ Nice vid! Dorm’s a huge jerk with those missiles too.

I’m trying to get the hang of Doom, but I’m still super scrubby with him. Lately been playing MODOK/Sent/Doom or MODOK/Mags/Doom. Also thinking about MODOK/Sent/Mags… Mags is a better anchor than Sent?

Anyway, did you know that your channel can’t be accessed on youtube? Is that on purpose or something?

Thanks  Mags is definitely a better anchor than Sent, thanks to his mobility and j.H OS air grab. A confirm into a flight combo into shockwave gets the job done most of the time in XF3. And I had no clue that my channel is inaccessible. I’ll try to fix that… I have no idea how that happened. I don’t recall messing with the default settings.

EDIT: It should be good now. Those settings are a mess. Thanks for telling me!

So, I went to the Break yesterday and went 1-2. My second tournament and this time I had a working converter, but apparently you can’t put 2 converters in a PS3 (but you can on 360). WHY ISN’T MARVEL PLAYED ON 360 ANYWAY? Even with the controller issues, it was a lot of fun… though on the way home, I couldn’t help but feel bitterly disappointed since I won’t get my next chance for at least a few months and more likely a year (college in the middle of nowhere with no Marvel scene lol). I guess it’s better that way.

Anyway, I got 2 matches streamed and they were both my losses! For the first match, I had to use a PS3 controller instead of my 360 dpad due to the aforementioned double converter issue, so it’s pretty pathetic… it felt like I was trying to play on a DDR pad, though I have to say, it was hilarious how everyone got hype when I simply picked MODOK on character select. What’s worse is that it still looks like I kinda know what I’m doing when a lot of stuff is input errors (ie. I never meant to super jump with butter gun with Doom ever… they were all supposed to be foot dives). The second I got to use my converter (same with the offstream match I won), so it’s definitely cleaner play, though I made couple of mistakes, which is fatal in 2/3 Marvel. Oh well. I really shouldn’t have used my Dorm team at all though… my Dorm is bad. I have no clue why I picked him. I probably going to drop him permanently and focus on my Magneto and Strange teams, since I believe most matchups are covered decently between the two (and they’re more fun!)

Starts at 1:56. The match was so bad that it was hilariously hype lol. I even got that MODOK time out lose animation lol.

Starts at 2:30. Looking back on it, I learned a few matchup specific stuff. I definitely got caught on a few things I shouldn’t have… I was playing a little rusty (I’m not used to all the waiting that comes with the tournament setting lol). Also, shoutouts to Disciple for not using his converter so I could use mine (he uses a PS2 pad normally I think and used the PS3 pad instead).

I’ll be sure to do better next time, even if it’s going to be quite awhile. I really wish tourneys weren’t so inconvenient for me to get to.

Figured it was a controller issue. u were dropping inordinate amounts of shit.

u are definitely much better than ur showing in the break but Im sure u know that.

Made another video. This time with both my main teams (MODOK/Mags, Strange/Doom) and I tried to focus more on resets, setups, tips, and the like more than combos, though they are certainly in there.

I’m going to look into a FChamp Mags anti TAC mash reset with MODOK off of M bomb after missiles sometime… I’m sure something like j.M, fly, j.M, adu, j.M, j.S works or maybe j.L, L blaster, addf, j.S. I wonder if I can TAC into Doom in that situation too if my third character is out.

Well I think the mindgames will only work if you make them seem like they should TAC counter. So if you going for M.bomb into missle as the reset, that should be how you TAC into Magneto/Doom.

That’s the plan  But I don’t think MODOK can really abuse it as well (can’t TAC if Doom is the only character left), and the unblockable air grab setup just seems better.

I don’t know how I missed this, but yes, this is possible. When missiles OTG in the corner, you can back dash, M cube, f+H, jamming bomb, snapback. Whenever the opponent is hit by f+H high enough, you can combo right into jamming bomb.

Lots of MODOK on the Revelations stream this weekend! GJ to Motempest, royal flush, and Hiro! I was rooting for you guys!

can u link the arcfhive? i can’t find results for REveLAtions either…

Search for Hazmat’s twitch channel, and a lot of it was right before top 8.

It seems like they removed their archive

Yeah for the most we didn’t how well Hiro/Motempest/Royal Flush in the tournament cause they only stream the matches they lost to.

One of thing was awesome that Royal Flush show off that Thor can do the Magneto/MODOK dhc setup. It seems like Mighty Tornado puts people in a floaty state so that MODOK’s beam super can do a follow up combo. RF had Thor’s mighty smash assist to do MODOK’s DHC follow up combo.

There’s actually a lot of supers MODOK can follow up with so no surprise here.

Nevermind, I found the archive for Revelation

Also FlashMetroid was playing MODOK at the Summerjam team tournament.

Rubeks got place in second place in UCC, only losing to Chris G.

He goes all of the way to grand finals and place second place.

MODOK players did pretty good last week.

at 14:15 the grand finals for team tournament. Yeah I totally carried the Team Justin. Totally all me.

I got like fourth or something in this 40 man tourney last night. played a bunch of matches off stream where i thought i did very well, and then choked it up pretty bad on stream. i really need to put in the necessary lab time to make Hyper Battering Ram do decent damage and end at a height that allows for easy DHCs. It really prevented me from winning matches I should have won.

My first match is at the beginning of the video.
Nothing really happening in this video. just me dropping some stuff, and playing a little more cautious. In casuals the day before, I underestimated Iron man and lost to him. So, this time I just freaking up backed like almost the entire match and jsut tried to zone and play cautious.

my next match is at 1:04:00 vs a mag/dorm player who I play a lot. Close friend of mine, and I made very silly impatient decisions, but honestly, its a toss up for me. I thoroughly hate magneto and i got wrecked. even if i played patient, i dont really know what I could have done. i mean look at the hit conversion at 1:11:20 or so? fucking ridiculous.

also, to be fair, i suck with taskmaster. like completely. i only use him for the assist lol.

My last game is at 2:10:00 or so. 2 in the morning at the time of the game, pretty tired, me and this guy are pretty even, he just got the best of me this night. non optimized combos really fucked me. I probably should ahve taken the default win on the pause as well but meh. I didn’t respect akuma assist and I was too aggressive.

OH well! Wish my other matches were streamed because I thought I did some wild stuff :frowning:

I don’t remember all your matches but I see holes and execution errors but Good job. Keep yourself motivated. Where you guys located? Anyways so magneto to me is a Hit and Miss. There’s alot of magneto players from where I’m at and I find it tough if I’m just rushing in there. Just taking too much of a risk just tridashing in there regardless of the character. you don’t have an assist that can compete with sent drones so you have to be more patient. You can out zone magneto in some cases. Also you can air to air combo him but mag doesn’t have anything like footdive. Also, throw some cubes out in the air. Also, this might be a preferance, but I don’t like to up back or try to with dok. I think keeping a good ground game helps and using Ls and Cubes like flame carpet. I guess since you’re playing a familar person its a bit harder but its great because you want to know the match up. Try do back throw against dorm and if you land that throw you should capitalize on it. Jamming bomb is better option than max damage. Like brainpipe said try not to keep secrets. Actually try to help your training partners beat you. Grind it out and you will understand the match up. I will say the match up is 5-5. Although I sometimes think dok wins. It seemed your friend offense was repetitive? If you don’t like the matchup, then taskmaster works.

Just throwing it out there but if you guys get hit by Fchamp reset then mash on your get off me assists helps. I still see ppl getting hit even when they have the right assist. I think even doom beam works if they addf.

we play on Guam and I never really thought 35+ people weekly was a big deal. I assumed that similar numbers show up to all tournaments around the mainland, but I guess it is quite a bit just for a weekly tournament with $5 entrance.

Thanks for the advice. ITs tough because I take some random damage from disruptor or I get locked down by drones/missiles or I attempt tech a throw at super jump height and I get caught etc.

I try not to be up back with dok, in fact I try not be in the corner period. I should definitely do more cubes especially when in the air. I’m gonna make a vested effort to put more out. Hell the L cube on the ground helps so much as well but yeah I rarely do cubes in the air and that is definitely a flaw in my game.

Of course much of this is execution. I"m an old man and don’t have time for video games but I love me some marvel and want to compete with these young kids!
