A&C World Thread - Downtown Toronto Casuals

Seeing the confusion in the other thread regarding casuals at A&C World I thought I’d make a thread clarifying the situation there. This thread will be updated as events occur/dates are solidified.

Days of Operation:

Mon. - Fri.: 3 pm - 8 pm
Saturday: 2 pm - 8 pm
Sunday: 12 pm - 6 pm

Location/Directions:

702a Spadina Avenue - Located just South of the Spadina subway station. Pay parking is available just North of the place but it’s advised just to take the bus if you’re in the Toronto area.

Game Days [Subject to change]:

SF/Marvel/MK Casuals: Most days you can come in and expect there to be a SF or Marvel setup. Check our schedual for tournament, in other games, that may take up enough space to warrent there not being a fighting game setup.

TTT x A&C Wednesday: We’ve been getting incredible numbers for these, up to 30-40! All fighters are welcome. 3S/MK/SSFIV:AE/McV3 all generate good numbers. These days are streamed at twitch.tv/torontotoptiers check out the archives to see what the environment is like!

Suggestions/discussion is encouraged below as to what other dates are best for other games like MK9, MvC3 etc… If certain dates are agreed upon I’ll relay the info to the guys at the store.

Environment:

It’s an abandoned Karate dojo so it’s perfect for fighting game casuals! Though it has no air conditioning the place remains fairly cool (was at least 20 degrees cooler than what it was outside, was 32 today) so it’s a good place to escape the heat. They have several ASUS VH236H’s so you can enjoy lag free games. They can get multiple setups going but you’re encouraged to bring your own sticks (PS3 for AE and PS2 for 3S [for now]) and copies of AE if you can.

Also feel free to take a break from fighting games and play some Mario Kart 64 or whatever else is there, you can make requests to the attendants.

Entry Fee:

The fee is 5 dollars for the day

Again, discussion is encouraged. The place is still getting its footing and they’re open to suggestions. I’ve included a poll regarding Marvel casuals since that’s the next most popular game, please complete it if you’re interested in going.

Probably some actual people who deserve shoutouts but they’ll never read this anyways. Hopefully the next tournament will get a bit more exposure so we can break the 25 mark in AE and get Marvel in the double digits.**

UPDATE:

We’re adding Marvel vs Capcom 3 to our tournament on the 21st! I’ll update the post accordingly.

Today’s also our 3rd Strike day, Samir should be there. Good practice for 3SO.**
**

i’m planning to come down one of these wednesdays for some 3s, but i’m not very good. Are there people there willing to give out some free pointers?

Samir is there every Wedesday dropping knowledge like he doesn’t want it anymore. Gets a good crowd too, you should definitely swing by.

Later today we’re having some AE casuals. Stop by from 3-8, first person in gets free admission!

I work right around the corner on Harbord and I’ve been wondering when the best time to come play is. I get off and 6:00 and come by after that.

I’ve been inside once and played some AE and MvC3 but it was mostly empty and I played with the owner’s cousin I believe.

Not really an AE player but I’ll play anything as long as it’s with people. What’s the best weekday evening for turnout?

The place closes at 8 most days so you can get a good two hours in on weekdays. They’re still trying to iron out specific days for games but the crowds are getting bigger. Wednesdays there are a bunch of people who show up for third strike and other fighting games and Fridays are big for AE.

In their photos section you can see the schedual they’ve arranged for each day.

Props to Samir for teaching other people!

Sounds great! I’m gonna try to get our there on Fri’s for some AE. Is there any AE happening on Monday’s or is it Fri or bust?

They actually have AE and Marvel on a lot of days. Monday, Wednesday and Friday there’s pretty much always an AE set-up going, weekends too sometimes.

Don’t forget about the AE/Marvel tournament this Sunday! Registration starts at 12.

^ ^ ^ ^ ^ Still Applies ^ ^ ^ ^ ^

Just a reminder that the tournament starts at 1. We’re on a pretty tight schedual, since the store closed at 6, so we may not delay it’s start too much.

Holy shit, Marvel in double digits we did it! Nearly double the last turnout (don’t laugh). Shoutouts to the MegaMite feedback and siren module. We’re having another tournament next month aswell, this time with 3rd Strike added to the bill. Stay tuned for details about that and the Toronto Top Tiers casuals collaboration.

It was a lot of fun! Thanks for having it.

My only suggestion would be to keep both stations going until the winners/losers/grand finals so those of us who want to stick around to watch don’t have to wait as long.

TTT x A&C World Wednesdays

TTT and A&C have collaborated to bring you the best local/downtown Toronto place for casual fighting gamers.
That’s right peeps, every Wednesday, come to A&C World (address above) where you can play the following games:

SSFIV:AE - 360
MvC3 - 360
SF:3S - 360

Note: MK, BB, SCIV or Tekken are on hand if that’s your flavour.

TopTier Lesson Initiative
This will be a pilot program for new or “want to improve” players.
Want to learn how to be good at the game you play? How about a session with a Top Tier player?
Let me know and we can certainly make this happen. The goal is to make you aware of your mistakes plus educate you of how to do things correctly. Pick a game and we will find you a corner to help you improve your game.

After your one on one session, try out your new found skills against the casual gamers.
You can only improve from here on out.

All this for the price of $5. The first session will be this wednesday (Aug. 23rd).
I will be there by 4:30p so hope to see people there.

More news to follow.
