A beginners and intermediate guide to marvel

The Assist Characters Survivial Guide:

Ok It’s going to happen eventually. You’re going to get snapped. It happens to everyone. But what separates the good and the bad players is how they react to snapouts. Some panic while others stay calm. But no matter what happens you have to get your assist out ASAP. with that said.

get to level 2: At level 2 you’re able to Dhc your character out to a better character. After level 2 just try to get room for yourself and Dhc out. Depending on the character and team you may have to actually hit the opponent or just do the super for block damage(like a hail storm).

Do not panic: this is key and panicing will just make your death faster and more embarrasing.

If you have an opening(like a combo opportunity). DO NOT use your super bar UNLESS you have a level 2 for a dhc.I’ve seen this countless times. A psylocke get a air combo going after getting snapped and wastes her super for donkey damage and is left without meter. meanwhile Magneto is back on your tail and you have nothing short of a random tag(random tag=death) can save you.Remember in this game where one mistake can kill you, It’s always better to be safe than sorry.

well you know what they say, George…Panic Makes people Stupid.

unless you can do shit with your “assist” character or they can hold their own/are top-god tier characters anway.

good so far.

sick storm video.

HAAAAA you thought I forgot about this thread?! actually I’ve been busy lately so apolgies on that. anyway.

The lesser Characters:

Iron man: Forget everything you’ve heard about Magneto being a wildcard character. iron man is the true wildcard in the game. for while he is the only character with a true infinite.he lacks magneto’s speed and mixup abilty. To play Iron man well you MUST master the infinite and develop the abilty to Infinite off of ANY clear hit.

Good Ironman play here:
(I REALLY should’ve lost this match)

haha loves ironman! it’s especially evil when I’m almost ocv’ed…but get that golden hit, bye bye team!

That was a pretty good match

 :wgrin:       :razzy:  :bgrin:  :wow:

:lp: :mp: :mk: :u: +:hp:

sexy ironman vid btw…I’ve almost mastered that unfly stuff with IM

Any pointers for playing team Matrix (storm sent cyke)?

from what i’ve seen over the years with that team (pre-Illinois, mind you…so think since the game came out to like…early 2004), play Storm with mad rushdown, play Sentinel with Lockdown and good flight skills, and Cyclops will be your all rounder…if anyone wants to correct me, go ahead.

james: I will soon(I totally forgot about this thread)

Cyclops: Cyclops is IMO the most underrated character in the game. Most ppl only use him for assist. But what cyke truly excels at is at the end game. 1on1 he beats everyone or has tools to compete with everyone. His normals are the absolute best in the game. he builds meter very fast, and with that meter he can either Chip you for upwards to 15%. or do a 60% damage combo(Hkx2 into optic sweepXX Sob does somewhere around 80 points of damage).

Good Cyke teams:

Cyke/sent/capcom
Matrix
Scrublops
Mag/Storm/Cyke

Good Cykes:
Mine
Matrix

Spiral:

Maybe the most misunderstood character in the game. So misunderstood that only 2 ppl in the entire world knows how to play with her. With that said you must be adept at reconizing openings to call swords.almost always by putting your opponent in blockstun. She builds meter faster than anyone else in the game,so if youre facing one of the 2 spirals and she lasts for more than 20 seconds expect Cable(who should ALWAYS be paired with her for this reason) to have at least 4 meters. very dangerous when matches slow down becuase she is constantly chipping you. Master the Spiral/Sentinel Trap and learn how to escape from it using push blocking. Learn the Spiral/Cable/sentinel Dhc death combo.

Spiral teams:
Spiral/Cable/Cyclops(Team Duc 1)
Spiral/Cable/Sentinel(Team Duc 2 and the best team for spiral)

Duc’s Spiral on display here:

Good Spirals

Ducvader
madbooface

humbag: counter call your opponents assists with cyc, especailly captn commando! if you call him before he’ll get snuffed…especially by captn commando lol

also with spiral: until you can start up some trapping etc. in the match…better be a great blocker. she doesn’t have many good/fast/high priority attacks (especially on the ground) to throw out like other top-tiers do. so there are times at the beginning and inbetween where blocking really well is moreso important

there’s also two other guys in chi (don’t know their names) who are good with spiral. one of them can really lock down and when I have more mobile (albeit better) characters and on sticks that I play better on. much scarier than madbooface imo. but haven’t played MBF a lot I guess anyway

Strider/Doom:

Im Lumping these too together for thats the only time you see these characters.
Doom at the beginning of marvel was the #1 charcter of the game. But as the game progressed and became faster doom lost effectiveness. even then, he only loses to 2 charcters legit and hangs well with everyone else imo .just happens that those 2 characters are 2 you will ALWAYS see(magneto and Sentinel). Strider should ALWAYS be paired with doom for the Strider doom trap.I’ll break down the trap.

The Strider Doom Trap:

at the beginning there was 2 versions of the trap utilized. On EC the trap was utilized by Eddie lee and required meter. the WC version was just simply using the trap one meter at the time and was utilized by Alex Valle. But both of them followed the same pattern which is:

Get Orbs
Get your Opponent into blockstun(usually by teleporting to what side your opponent is on) all the while doing chain combos
Call Doom

This makes Orbs the threat it was in mvc1. now you’re losing 15% everytime strider gets a level. And with all the buttons your hitting your constantly getting meter. very annoying to fight against but theres a catch. Strider is the most execution heavy character in the game. you must be PRECISE when executing with him for every good move he has(Orbs, teleport) are overlapped by shitty ones(Grab super,Wall climb).Keep that in mind

The only Strider left:

Clockw0rk(just search his name on youtube for all your strider needs. including the recent money match with duc jr)

Strider teams:

Sentinel/Strider/Doom(team Clockw0rk)
Strider/Doom/Captain commando (team valle and the way the team is built utilized the WC strider style I outlined earlier)
Doom/Strider/Blackheart (Team Eddie lee and utilized the EC style I outlined earlier)

Also and onething(and Im going to come off sounding like a dick). Unless You’re Madbooface. Dereklearnslow or Geronimo(for combos). DO NOT POST ADVICE in this thread. outside of us 3 and a few other players (like Tony K,GLB and Floe). No one knows how to play this game correctly in the MW. So if you’re going to post in this thread it better be a question Or Im calling you out.

1)personally how do you (juicy) perform the cyc infinite, if you do at all? it’s a bit flexible and wanna see what you find easiest?

2)though what you said is mostly true (juicy) if there’s some good info, I think it should be posted, especially if no one else is. just because someone “doesn’t play correctly” doesn’t mean they may not know something someone else doesn’t/doesn’t post. though it would apply moreso to combo’s if I see something I know the answer to or can add to I will. if this thread wasn’t so dead though…MBF/DLS/Geronimo should get in here.

so I won’t put anymore pointless posts, but just questions and answers (or bits of answers) probably just for combo’s.

just keep up with questions!

also, what are your thoughts about strider/IM? oroburos to inf is nice…just no sent D:

Im thinkin of just playin Storm, Cable, and tron or CC assist. Any ideas?

CC is a good assist because of Captain Corridor…that move MAKES him, really. It comes out quickly and has high range…if your opponent hops around a lot and doesn’t pay attention, he/she WILL get fucked up. I’ve seen it happen many a time in mid level and high level play.

(EDIT)crap…I didn’t see George’s post about “advice”…oh well, I’m leavin’ it anyways…if they agree with what I said, I’m sure they’ll say somethin’ about it.

Since I’m one of the “privileged few” I’m gonna field some of these. And yes…I do notice these aren’t combo questions.

Matrix, in a nutshell:

  • w/ Storm:
    – Against rushdown, hide behind Sent and Cyc’s assists, building meter. Then either burn that w/ Hail, and/or if either assist hits, or if you get a hit, go into AC XX “America’s favorite DHC.”
    – Against runaway, rushdown and keep’em blocking/locked down. Limit their movement options w/ your assist, but be careful. Once you land your hit, go into AC XX “American’s favorite DHC.”
  • w/ Sent - Zone, chip, and/or get’em into the corner. Then use Storm and Cyc’s assists to chip and leave’em in blockstun. Once you have’em blocking, mix-up high/low. If Storm hits, dash-in and launch to B&B AC or RP XX HSF->(whatever); if Cyc hits, dash-in and AC or set-up UB. This team probably has the most/best UB set-ups, if you land a hit in the corner…theoretically, the match should end.
  • w/ Cyc - Jus’ stall and build meter, then DHC to Storm or Sent.

And the most important thing to know w/ that team…LEARN HOW TO PROTECT/COVER/SAVE CYCLOPS AAA!

For reference, watch any video Justin plays that team in.

Pretty solid team to start w/. Start using CC first, then once you get used to playing the game, you can try Tron Pro. out.

Basic team strat would to be, either:

  • Start Storm - Build meter for Cable, then let him use it.
  • Start Cable - Build a lead w/ Cable, kill first character off. GB the next, and then DHC to Storm (or jus’ tag her in after the kill) and run the fuck away for the rest of the round.

But, like I said, once you get used to CC, you can try out Tron. Who is NOT an easy assist to use, you’ll have to get used to her range and how her assist works/covers. However, she is an extremely easy source of free damage…Storm/Tron = stupid easy damage or assist kill (s.hk + Tron XX Hail = 70-80+% damage on most assists).

And once you get used to playing, learn Sent. You’ll be able to swap him in for any character on that team.

Oh and, CapCom AAA > Cyc AAA when they’re head-to-head.

1.) George doesn’t use the Cyc inf., for numerous reasons. Some being:

  • tricky execution/timing to do consistently…and AFAIK, he can’t do it
  • Doesn’t really set-up anything
  • Risk/reward ratio is too lop-sided toward the risk side

If you get a clean launch w/ Cyc, it’s jus’ better to do 1/2 of a inf rep, into knockdown and forced OTG (which causes forced roll and wake-up).

2.) I was seriously REALLY close to high-jacking this thread from George…“I completely forgot about this thread”…shakes head.

IMO, IM/Strider is an ok team at best. The team you would almost HAVE to play is IM/Strider/Doom. And seriously…any team w/ Cyc AAA or a runaway team in general would own it for fun.

Orbs XX INF is fun…but that’s really the only thing this team has going for it. Off the top of my head, I can think of a couple other tricks for this team…but nothing too worthwhile.

And since George didn’t put too much info here and since he probably knew that I would, I’m gonna add to this…

IM’s [standard] INF = [/ \ j.lp->j.mp slight pause->j.mk slightly longer pause->j.u+hp \ /]xN

Good IM teams:

  • Iron Man <B> | Sentinel <Y> | Cable <B> (Team Toi)
  • Iron Man <B> | Cable <B> | Doom <B> (Team OG Japan/Illan)
  • Iron Man <B> | Storm <A> | Cable <B> (Team New School Japan)
  • Magneto <A> | Iron Man <B> | Sentinel <Y> or <A> (Team COMBOFIEND v1)
  • Storm <A> or <B> | Iron Man <B> | Sentinel <Y> (Team COMBOFIEND v2)

Good IM players to watch:

  • Mitsu
  • Nun
  • Illan
  • Phat Toi
  • COMBOFIEND
  • KillaKelly
  • Demon Hyo
  • Julius Jackson
  • Buckethead

Hope that helps.

  • Geronimo

P.S. Other good Cyclops to watch are Justin Wong’s and Xecutioner’s.

Ok. I know that this game is all about team dynamics. So in your opinion which teams

counter the other teams. Also Tony K had me started with team scrub (Cable AA,

Sentinel drones, Captain Commando, AA). Can you give me some tips on how I

should utilize this team both Offensively (rush down, traps, tech traps, utilizing my

assist correctly, etc) and Defensively (shielding my assists, meter building,

shielding my point character, protecting a potential weakness in the teams flow i.e

predictability while attacking/trapping, etc), Peace Out
