what i meant. semantics
Hope they immediately throw a fireball.
Seriously that’s pretty much the answer. If they immediately throw a fireball your DP will go through and hit them clean. If they do basically anything else you’ll usually whiff.
If you hit people higher up near the head you land closer to them but you also bounce higher and end up at a significant disadvantage. For example if you dive into Gief’s head you land close enough for him to 360 or try running bear grab.
As far as fighting DJ goes, DJ is a bit easier than Guile for a couple reasons. One is that it’s safe to jump around at midrange (no rh fk) and another is that DJ has an awkward range outside of his low forward. At that range your low roundhouse will usually beat his, and sometimes his low roundhouse will slide him into a walk up 360. I find it basically impossible to walk up 360 Guile unless he’s totally asleep at the wheel but against DJ it works surprisingly well. because he either does a low rh which puts him into your range or uses his low forward which doesn’t have the length to keep you out.
That said it’s still a tough match.
So has anyone explained why hawk cant tick for shit in remix?
Take a look at by NKI that clearly shows how Zangief’s grab frames for his command throw are long enough that you can put someone into block or hit stun and then immediately input command throw for an easy tick. If you do this, the grab frames will come out for the duration of block or hit stun plus at least one frame (the first frame) where your opponent is recovered and can be thrown. This means that your opponent with this (lenient) timing has no choice but to reverse to escape the situation. If the opponent guards or blocks he gets thrown.
Now with T.Hawk, if you put an opponent into block stun or hit stun, and then input command throw immediately, you will waste your grab frames on their hit or block stun, and the grab frames will run out before your opponent recovers and is able to be thrown. But even worse is that your whiff animation will still be active, so if you don’t perfectly time your ticks with T.Hawk you will be left completely vulnerable to anything your opponent has to throw at you from normal throws and attacks to mistimed reversals.
This means that the timing for Hawk’s tick throw now has to be near perfect, you have to delay your command throw after a tick to the point where it is only a frame or two before your opponent recovers if you are using the piano method. Zangief didn’t need to delay because he has many more grab frames towards the end of his throw grab animation.
In the past this wasn’t as big a deal because though Hawk had the quicker jump (meaning walk up command throw was prohibitively difficult) and less grab frames as a disadvantage, he could negative edge the throw from a tick and end in defensive crouch meaning a mistimed throw or if the opponent used a reversal would be a safe situation for Hawk. This negative edge was the positive trade off and about the only good winning strategy with Hawk.
The lesson to be learned ultimately here, is that if you want to win with Hawk, stick to classic mode or try harder.
Seriously.
That explains it pretty well. All in all, I still feel ticking with FP is still more different. Anyone ive played from here on XBL has seen me whiff random 360 ticks for no reason.
gridman was that your gief i played yesterday? we had a good match, my hawk is getting better slowly, and your brother plays a good ryu, it’s odd playing a competent one lol
Hah, that was me the whole time. My gief, ryu, hawk…everyone.
My brother doesnt really play HDR at all anymore… hes stuck on that flavor of the month shit street fighter 4.
Other than a harder 720, HDR Hawk> ST Hawk.
O. Hawk > R.Hawk (if his 360s worked right) > ST hawk > R.hawk (right now)
Yeah when fucking around with hawk I noticed if I instantly tick into spd I whiff at point blank range while they are in hit/block stun and to get it to wor kI have to jsut mentally count to 2 really fast and then do the input for sp ughh soo annoying glad I don’t main him.
ST Hawk is alot more fun to play then HDR Hawk.
I disagree. I’ve be able to do things with R.Hawk that were out of my reach with N.Hawk (like a walk-up Typhoon.).
so i’ve actually been playing a lot of good sims recently and this match is so frusterating, seems like he has an answer to every jump in i try and i can’t exactly just stand on the ground, the best thing i have is j.hk, good reach and seems to trade with him, i think he takes more damage too, mixing up dives works also, but he can beat them cleanly. another problem i have is when i do manage to get close he just slides under me and my throws fuckin’ wiff, i dunno if that’s poor timing on my part or if he just can’t be thrown in the slide, and his hp throw has really good range and just throws me back out to make life hell again, honda and gief are getting easier for me though, i still hate fighting them though
walk up st.mp > sim. just know that his crouching pokes will beat that. then you walk up low forward / low mp / low fp. inch your way in. one typhoon is all you need to fuck dhalsim’s day up. also, jump fierce is an awesome jumpin in this match
Yeah, jump fierce is the best jumpin against Dhalsim, the regular fierce not the splash. It tends to at least trade with a lot of stuff.
rad, thanks guys, my inexperience in this match shows, being on east cost time, i don’t get time with some of the cali players that are good with sim
About J.Fierce, yeah, that’ll really make Sim think twice about attacking you. It pretty much trades with everything and it’ll be greatly in your favor. Only thing that beats it is Dhalsims godly Jab Chop.
If you can get Dhalsim in the corner with your throw loop and if he doesn’t have his super, you pretty much win. Most players can’t reversal super with Dhalsim anyway.
Btw, Cr. Roundhouse is a GREAT way to keep up pressure. Throw it in there and if he gets knocked down, he’s yours.
It’s been a while fellas. Anything new or interesting that we have discovered on our man Hawk? Gone for vacation and to be honest, just started playing STHD again even though SF4 is out. Where’s our 3D Hawk at!!??
hopefully he’s waiting for a better game
lol, yup.
