I know in MvC series he steals Chun-Li’s taunts as well, the ko menne thing. I know that means sorry or something of the sort.
I also have no idea what he says during butt slap taunt.
Also, has it occurred to you that maybe his accent comes from the fact that they’re probably trying to catch his Chinese origins? He is from Hong Kong, after all. Just a thought. I don’t know Chinese at all, just a smidge of Japanese. I’m learning it for brain stimulation.

I’ve only taken one Japanese beginner course, with some learning from a Japanese friend, so my listening skill is a bit bad :xeye:, it could be ‘ikuzo gora’, just as you stated. I put ‘yi’ just to make sure nobody pronounces ‘i’ as ‘ai’.
Tyvm for the ‘underestimate’, I just couldn’t get that word in my brain, and it fits perfectly to what he means.
I had the biggest problem making out his torosugi daze as well, in low volume it actually sounded like ryu’s taunt 1 with faster speaking speed, so i had to tune the volume up and plug in my earphone :lol:.
I just listened to Dan’s taunts in English voice, and I realized that he says ‘What’s wrong?’ on his crouch taunt, he just doesn’t say that twice.
I don’t remember what he said in CvS2, but definitely ‘ki matta ze’ exists, written as ???. SF4 sakura says the same thing at the end of her ultra (‘ki matta ne’).
During the slap taunt he says “???~!” (koshi ga haitte ne ze), which directly means “Your waist is unbalanced”. I think it can be translated into ‘weak body’ or something.
I honestly don’t know with his accents stuff, but I think it’s just his way of saying it.
Your listening skills are better than mine, I misshear shit all over the place making it harder to translate :lol: I have Pimsleur Speak and Understand Essential Japanese 1-3, only listened through 1 so far.
“kimatta ze” I believe means “it’s settled” since “kimaru” is the verb to be decided or settled.
Sakura does indeed say it quite a few times;
kore de kimaru (Ultra start) - this will decide it
kimatte ne (after Ultra) - that’s settled, huh?
kimari! (EX Otoshi finish) - this settles it!
Translations don’t sound all that natural, can’t really make it sound natural whilst still using the given verb but stuff like “this will do it” probably works better even though I believe “to do” is “suru”
“Your waist is unbalanced” made me laugh out loud :lol: I can’t actually find “unbalanced” as a translation for “hairu”, I see to enter, break into, join, hold, enroll, contain… “koshi” can also mean whithering or dying when spelt with ?? kanji. Still makes no sense to me :lol:
Your next mission, if you so choose to accept it, is to do arcade mode with Dan beating Sakura with Ultra and Super finding out what he says Ultra start sounds like “Youko mitte yo, Sakura!” (Watch carefully Sakura) but for the finish I can’t make out what he says after “HYES!” and “Nanda, nanda?!”
as for ‘waist unbalanced’ stuph, you might wanna find translation for the whole thing (koshi ga hairu), not the hairu part only, since the meaning is exclusive when used with the word ‘koshi’
I just saw this and found a video that I can listen to. Here’re the translations for super finish, ultra start&finish.
Dan’s Super finish: ???, ??? (nanda nanda, mou owari ka) - What, is that it? (Dan likes to say same thing twice, I just put it once. I first thought of putting ‘is that the best you can do’ instead of ‘is that it’)
Dan’s Ultra finish: !!! !!! (yo-shi! hirumesi wa omae no ogorida!) - All right! Lunch is on you! (he pronounces yo-shi in a strange way, almost ya-shi. That confused me :xeyes:)
Extra - Sakura’s Ultra finish: ??, ??? (jya, ohiru ha ra-men de) - Then, lunch is ramen
My translator/dictionary thing is pretty limited, unless it’s a well known saying (like haru ichiban) it won’t be able to find anything outside of single words
“mitoke yo” (yo being partical I take it) is a weird way of saying that, no? Again wonder if it’s his “accent”.
That “yo~shi” sounds a lot like “(h)Yes!” to me :lol:
Do you mean “wa” instead of “ha”, since I’m guessing it’s a partical written “ha” but sounding “wa” Sakura’s so cute, I’m sure there’s a quote for when she wins with Super too but the AI will never use Super as Sakura.

Well, when I encounter a word that I don’t know, I usually ask my friend or look it up in the jap-jap dictionary, then translate that into English myself.
Not sure about ‘mitoke yo’, but I think it’s his personality rather than his accent. The ‘yo-shi’ part, not only did he have strange pronounciation, he also had accent that’s different than other ppl’s accent (refer to ryu’s time-over victory phrase or one of ken’s ko victory phrases), and yes, I wrote ‘wa’ down as how it sounds xD.
Np at all, I like Dan esp. with his japanese voices, and hearing them once more lightened me up. I wonder if anyone tried japanese voice Dan with english voice Sakura on the rival match :lol:. O yea, if you want I’ll look for a video and post translations for SakuraVSRyu rival match on sakura thread xD
Personal accent Hence I used quotation marks around “accent” heh. Yeah I don’t think there’s an area in Japan that talks like Dan but probably a small minority (possibly from a specific area). I bet a dialect/accent expect would be able to tell but alas I don’t know any
“mitoke” does not look like a standard conjugate of the verb that’s for sure ^^
I’ve had Japanese Sakura vs English Ryu, English Rose vs Japanese Ryu, sounds pretty weird when they respond in another language
Sakura guys aren’t as interested in Japanese as we are, since the only people who are generally are like myself Dan people as well She’s much easier to translate though, since she’s a high school girl her Japanese is usually quite formal and polite I can remember her Ultra finish;
Dou deshita? Atashi no wazu. - How’s that? My technique. (guess “how’d you like my technique?” sounds more natural :P)
Kinda surprised she uses the feminine “atashi”, being a “tom boy”
xD Some day this or next week I’ll post the whole list of his taunt quotes and list their meanings as well, since I can’t find it on youtube. His English voice seems too… light imo, especially with ‘wa-ha!’ at the end of ultra.
Anyways, ‘mitoke’ seems to express more feelings of ‘watch&learn’ than simply ‘watch this’.

You mean “woohoo” I dunno why they redubbed English words, some of the stuff for Guile is understandable but changing “yahoo” to “woohoo”… it’s just not forgivable! “Yahoo” is a signiture of Dan’s, it’d be like changing Guile’s Sonic Boom to “Flashy Circle Thing” or something >.>
A little birdy has told me that Sakura’s pokes have got (a lot) better, I wonder if Dan has got the same treatment? Sakura’s a fast character so having slow pokes is somewhat detrimental to her but for Dan not so much so kinda wonder what they could do with his pokes. c.HP and far s.HK could use a bit of speeding up, nj.HP as well I guess but otherwise what else could they do? s.HP pushback could be changed so s.HP xx Dankuu combos work on characters that it doesn’t work on now. Think if his slow-ass normals don’t et sped up they should up the damage on them a bit, give us more reason to use c.HP over s.HP since 5 damage is neither here nor there really.
They should make Dan’s taunts immune to fireballs, for shits and giggles
Even better, have Ultra Taunt (Dan Install) make it so that taunts make Dan immune to all damage during the taunt animation and also give him a little Super meter It’ll be on a timer giving him say 15-30 seconds of Dan Install goodness depending on how full the meter was when activated and it slowly drains to zero.
Kinda cheesey but you’re essentially giving Dan a way to time out people hehe, that’ll teach those pussy Akumas and co

I vote for 1 too, tho I would like #3 personally. Dan should get an ultra where he makes the other opponent do legendary taunt and dmg them because they screw up here and there.
