"66% of Capcom doesn't think continuing SF is a good idea" - Ono interview

Notice how one of the guys working with Ono said Makoto. Guess all that joking about Gouken’s daughter is about to become true (along with Ibuki :ugh). IMO… I think if they want to keep the game fresh, they need to add new characters, whether it be SF1 characters, a unplayable SF character, or just plain new. Viper,Able and ELF are some of the most fun characters to use in SF4.

I don’t think we’ll ever see a CAC Mode in SF4. But a customization mode would be a nice addition to SF4… Look at all the skin moding going on in the PC version. All those mods those guys have made are 100% better than any ALT outfit Ono has come up with.

What this guy said…the reason we dont have enough cabs and the reason for its ridiculous price for arcades is because Capcom didnt have an arcade release anywhere outside of Japan.

Should just be happy if you have an arcade with this game honestly…

Also for new characters…i want that African guy that was supposed to be Rufus. I dont care how you do it but that black dude needs to be in. He is so much cooler than that fatass Rufus… Just having him will boost sales imo.

Thats actually a very cool designed, hopefully its still used as another new character as SF4 grows with adaptations.

haha sorry to give you the wrong impression. I was just saying stuff like that in training (not trial mode particularly) would be helpful in keeping somebody interested in a game with a “different” playstyle compared to what they’re used to. you know, guitar hero kids might not care for the game since there’s no designated time when to push a certain button. A lot of people have said it’s a button mashing game, but they just don’t get it.

I don’t think the game is hard to pick up. I don’t bother with fancy stuff unless it fits into effectiveness. But arcade sticks do help immensely and I’m sure that’s a big reason why the game didn’t sky rocket in popularity.

They just should bring back the American cartoon series at the same time as Dash’s release.

Reworded, for clarity.

Just get in the plane.

The problem is their attempts to make it casual friendly for the most part backfired, leaving us with a game that had both complex inputs “casual” players couldn’t do and shortcuts that made doing these harder.

Some character’s bnb combos are pretty silly if they meant them to be casual friendly.

none of the combos in 4 are all that hard… what’s silly? certainly some characters are designed to be less appealing to casuals and moreso to advanced players (rufus, fuerte, viper, gen…) everyone else pretty much dials combos.

I thought they already did that… with 4’s plot.

Basic 2in1 ones, yeah.

1 frames links, not so much.

the virtua fighter series wants to have a very good word with you

I don’t ever really see a casual player even doing boxer’s bnb, especially with the ultra. Especially since it’s possible to chain jabs to the short and not get the headbutt out. Plus it’s not like the game explains anywhere that you can’t chain into a 2-in-1.

I play guys with like 8000 GP who can’t do FADC ultra with Ryu. Maybe we have a different definition of casual.

FADCs are awkward, and focus attacks aren’t casual friendly. The whole system is really screwy for new players to pick up. You hardly ever see serious focus attack games being used outside of top play anyway.

You also have to look at just the motions for some of the controls. What’s up with the hooligan throw and the chicken wing? Why in the world would those be in a casual friendly game? Same with Guile and Vega’s ultra.

If they wanna keep the casual players. They just need to add more single player shit the way Soul Calibur did. Character customization and decent netcode goes a long way to keeping people playing too. Once you’ve made a solid gameplay engine, you can just build on top of it by adding more features in later iterations.
Don’t get me wrong, I think SF4 has a lot of problems right now (reversal windows, lack of blockstun, movement speed/responsiveness compared to past games, stage size, awkward jump arc compared to past games, weird vulnerable hit frames on wake-up, reversals being far too rewarding/safe in general), but it’s solid enough that there aren’t enormous changes needed.

It’s pretty discouraging to hear how indifferent Capcom is about improving their netcode, though. Input delay is not the way to code online for fighters. FPS developers realized this for their own genre almost a decade ago.

I’m not sure if they can top 4, IMO it’s the perfect fighting game. I would like to see a SF Alpha 4 though, but back in full 2d.

Balrog’s b&b is easy, I don’t even play him and I can do it.

I’m saying nothing in this game is much harder than ‘do a string of normals, into a different normal, into a special move.’ (jab short jab low forward fireball) (divekick short fierce fierce tornado) (jab jab short headbutt)

There are some FADC combos that are ‘hard’, yes, but those just take practice. Surely the motion is awkward, but if this is difficult you might want to stay away from any character with a one frame link.

And those motions have always been like that. The only place it’s different is Sirlin Fighter HD Remix. The motions are kind of silly, but honestly who cares? They’re not hard, and they’re shortcutted so it’s easy.

Example: My 2nd is Abel. To do a 360 I just do QCB + UB + P. Sheesh, SF4 is hard guys! The game is very casual friendly, and yet has enough depth to reward the serious players with better combos. God forbid we get something gay like Smash controls up in here. I’d just play the 4 we have then.

I’m sorry you can’t randomly mash and get your character’s best B&B. Also, using online play as a measuring stick is completely stupid too.

This game is not casual friendly in comparison to previous games when it comes to BnBs. Links will almost always be harder to learn than straight chain cancels. c. LK x 2 xx hadouken is a lot easier to learn than c. LK, c. LP, c. MP xx hadouken for example. Telling a new fighting game player that they have to learn how to cancel moves quickly into one another is usually hard enough without telling them that they have to time each hit within a few frames or less depending on the combo.

The big reversal windows make this a lot worse because, now, not only are new players having trouble doing the link combos, but they’re also getting DPed every time they mis-time by people jamming the motion out while they’re getting hit. This got frustrating for a lot of my friends very quickly. I mean, hell, this shit even happens in top level play. I’ve seen guys lose because they mis-timed a winning combo and ate DP/TU/messiah/whatever > FADC > ultra as a result.

Most of my more casual friends actually found Blazblue to be a lot more newbie friendly than SF4 in terms of just doing basic combos.

Very different definitions of “casual” here.
“Casual” on SRK is probably someone who can do BnBs and a little other stuff.
But in reality, most people are getting frustrated in normal trials and with executing a simple ultra.

More characters FTW!

Noone is perfect, not even the top players. They’ll bait out mistakes from eachother, it’s the only way to win against someone whose execution and knowledge is flawless. Everyone makes mistakes eventually.

Normal trials 4 can be a buttclencher, I’m stuck on normal 4 on several characters…just don’t have the patience to make those 4-5 combo links work. When I put my mind to it, I’ll manage in an hour. Then you pass it and get to Normal 5 thinking it’ll be even harder…then it’s a simple 3-step link and you’re done.

I think many noobs and gamepoint hunters think they have to finish every trial to “finish the game”…when they can’t do it, they throw the game away instead of playing against people online like they’re supposed to do.

Yeah. SFIV looks amazing already, and the fundamentals they have for graphics and art direction, sound system and gameplay are solid like mountains if you ask me, but they definitely need to keep advancing in all areas, and especially reviewers who analyzed the game, will notice the improvements, even if they aren’t glaring changes, and pass their impressions on to the reader.

What a bunch of bullshit questions from the crowd…
