"66% of Capcom doesn't think continuing SF is a good idea" - Ono interview

Resident Evil has 3 successful (not blockbuster but successful) Hollywood movies - all earning more than $100 mil each. How is that B-flick Chung Li doing?

I can’t believe you even compared the financial success of RE to SF4.

There will be super news for you to hear at the forthcoming Tokyo Games Show (which runs 24th - 27th September).

You call them mainstream games… I call them gateway games.

I don’t know about the rest of you guys, but I’m pretty sure I started out on an NES with a game called Super Mario Bros. I don’t think it gets any simpler than that. =p

Honestly…the oringinal Mario Bros. was a harder game to play than the majority of stuff that’s out today.

Guilty Gear AC wants to say hello. The game has more variety in characters and mechanics… and still manages to be very well balanced. More so than SF4. Check out the SBOs for that game.

This sbo the finals had a team consisting of Bridget Johnny Zappa. E tier E tier B tier vs Testament Millia Venom. A tier C tier B tier. Close finals that were down to the last round also.

No Eddie made it to the 3rd rounds. The only S tier character.

Quarter finals had only one A tier rank character in a team.

Top 4 teams for ggac

Kazuki (DI) / Kawin (PO) / Inoue (OS) vs. Satou (JO) / Chonari (ZA) / Mugen (BR)

Shounen (TE) / Woshige (MI) / N-O (VE) vs. Koichi (IN) / Haaken (PO) / Kishitaka (SO)

:wow:

Bingo.

Try putting out a game THAT hard with NO SAVES for today’s fans and it would get ripped to shreds in the reviews, then sales would plummet.

Simple does NOT equal easy.

Shit…Galaga is a simple game…you shoot everything that moves at you, while avoiding the projectiles. You have one stick/pad and one fire button (maybe a special attack button depending on the version of galaga).

But Galaga was NOOOOT simple to beat, that shit required tons of dedication to beat.

That’s IF there weren’t balance changes or netcoding changed. You can’t intertwine two different types of netcode. How fair would it be to pay to have characters but not pay for the new lobby system/new game mechanics/balance changes etc.?

And to quote your most recent post, play Ninja Gaiden on NES. Fuck play it on X-Box and you’ll KNOW hard. There is no love in original NES games. You play to win for real or start the fuck over. The replay value in NES games was that you never beat it, so you went back and tried again and thought, “Maybe this time I’ll get past level 4”.

Most difficult game I’ve played recently that requires serious effort would be Dishwasher: Dead Samurai(side-scrolling hack-n-slash) and CoD4 and CoD:WaW on veteran difficulty. Anything else is fucking cake. Yet people still complain that most games don’t have ENOUGH checkpoints. Spoiled ass kids man, I swear.

Ikaruga. Mind-Fuck. Learn about it.

Japanese video game makers (especially Capcom) generally understand the hardcore (local) vs casual (global) market. That’s why some Japanese versions of games are harder than their US/UK counterparts (DMC3 is a good example- EDIT: Actually it wasn’t DMC3. The US version is harder, and it turns out they’re making US versions hard these days so that people are dissuaded from renting or something like that). On top of that, nearly every Japanese videogame maker caters for hardcore players in their games in some way or another. eg. MGS includes a Ranking system (Big Boss) for serious gamers. Beating a Japanese game on hard mode usually unlocks Very Fucking Hard Mode?. Japanese shmups usually have a rank indicator at the end of the level/game (usually ranging from E to S+), and often you have to complete the game twice and beat the stereotypical True Boss? in order to see the stereotypical True Ending?. Final Fantasy games usually include monsters that are about 100 times more powerful than Armageddon itself as side-quests. Etc etc etc. Yet, most of these titles remain accessible to casual players.

This sort of system can’t easily be implemented in a game like Street Fighter IV though. If they had included an unlockable “Grandmaster” mode that tightens windows, removes shortcuts and speeds up the game, what would happen to the arcade version? For now at least, the only reward for hardcore fans is the Platinum Trophy.

And that’s why i don’t see the point of buying a console and only play at friends houses

Took me MONTHS of practice to finally beat it on normal with 3 lives (arcade settings).

Jesus christ, when it was over, I felt as if I’d been through a car wreck or something…I was literally exhausted.

I have never done it again since.

That’s funny…some of the Guilty Gear players in my area apparently don’t think the game is balanced enough and actually went back to playing Slash.

Ninja Gaiden saga

Battletoads

Double Dragon

The list goes on…

Well Im giving proof… wasnt really a fluke cause last years SBO for GGAC was similar.

Some of the SF4 players in my area didnt like the game and went back to playing 3rd strike. Pretty much any new version of a game comes out will have different preferences. But slash was not more balanced than AC in match up charts. It was more simple and in that sense I can see why people like slash over AC.

The difficulty in fighting games is reading and reacting to an opponent more than it is manual dexterity (although fighting games do have varying degrees of focus on execution). I think the idea that the game is simply never intended to support something like that is more of a reason than inconsistent versioning.

mega man x4 hd remix? Its a great game, but come on wouldnt you rather have mega man legends 3 on xbox/ps3? I know i would.
any way capcom is going to make another SF, its going to be real soon or its going to be 10-15 years due to the nostalgia shit that happens to be popular now in days.

Yo wait, don’t you have this backwards? Isn’t DMC3 the game where they ratcheted the difficulty up for the US version and you couldn’t even unlock the Japanese normal mode until you’d died five times or whatever?

And isn’t the MGS series the one with European Extreme mode?

I don’t think there’s really a rhyme or reason to it though, even back in the day when challenge was a bigger thing to developers Capcom added an easy mode to the US Megaman 2 which was already pretty easy but Konami cranked the difficulty for the US Castlevania 3 – thank god, because the Japanese version is even more of a joke and it’s super-tedious. Games just get dicked with when they translate them, who knows why.

I didn’t want to believe this until I went to the Ryu forum and people were asking for fake fireball, juggle with normal hadouken, and more invincibility on SRK. The Bison forum has like a 14-page-wishlist thread where people want to be able to FADC his slide and give him back the loketest Psycho Crusher that went through you while keeping you in blockstun (EVEN after being linked to Azrael’s old post about how OP it was! They were like “NO IT WOULD BE OK MAN!” LOL).

That shit cracks me up. The only “fixes” thread I’ve paid much attention to is the one in the Gouken forum, a character who actually like, needs fixes, and even then the suggestions are more reasonable the ones I saw on the “wishlist” threads of TOP TIER CHARACTERS.

People want their cake and wanna eat it too

When he said he liked Bison did he mean Boxer or Dictator?
