Ignoring character balance tweaking, I personally feel that certain global mechanics could definitely be tweaked for the better.
I’m also surprised that I have yet to see someone complain about the copious amounts of option select in this game. Crouch teching was constantly lambasted by opposers of 3S but somehow it seems like nobody cares when it comes to SFIV.
It’s probably because 3S’ overall mechanics were better than SFIV’s. With SFIV there are bigger things to worry(complain?) about like how the game encourages turtling and discourages attacking playstyles, trades into ultra, ultra’s in general, Supers in comparison to ultra’s, stages too big, Sagat’s OPness, etcetc.
You know, the usually complained about stuff. Some of which I agree with, some of which I don’t agree with. I’m sure you’ve heard 'em ll before.
This stat comes up a lot, but what everyone seems to forget is that the SFIV Viewlix setup was REALLY FREAKING EXPENSIVE. So not every arcade bought one, so SFIV just got less distro. Compare that to Tekken 6, which had machines pretty much in every arcade. I think you can find Tekken in hospitals and shit.
There were arcades with SFIV and not that many people playing…but those arcades didn’t have people playing in general. At any arcade with decent traffic, I always saw SFIV getting lots of play.
Again, a lot of people throw this out without really thinking about how the economics work.
Let’s just assume an arcade with a SFIV cab gets 6 continuous hours of play a day. One match takes about 3 minutes, and costs $1. So that’s roughly about $20 an hour, or $120 a day. Again, Viewlix cabs are REALLY FREAKING EXPENSIVE, and remember the Japanese setup - you need TWO cabs to make that $1. So it not like Capcom released the arcade version and then just started raking in the profit - it took several months before they even broke even on it.
I’m not sure if this is more of Capcom’s problem, or arcade owners problems (since its the arcades who buy the cabs from Capcom), but money is a factor.
And that’s just thinking about the price of the cabs. I didn’t even factor in development, production, testing, etc.
Its also probably a contributing reason why the arcade isn’t getting patched. While it would be considerably cheaper, it would still cost money to sell and distribute, and then Capcom’s gotta convince arcades to buy this patch for a game that exists on home consoles, after they already blew out their bankbooks for the super-expensive cabs.
Very true. No game is perfect (except Pong, maybe?). I think people just like to complain for the sake of complaining. I’ve only played Third Strike like three times so I can’t really comment on that game though.
we live in the 21st century…arcades should have removable decal and upgradable usb slots to install new software…
ala SF4-dash at a very discountable price… I’d imagine Arcades would love this feature… because really why would they spend all that money on SF4 then next year there’s will be an updated better feature…what would they do with the old machine? sell it or just let it sit there at discounted price?
Arcades need easily accessible option for upgrade without having to buy another machine.
I think it would be cool if they remixed SF3rd strike by patching and maybe making a 4th strike? Balance the hell out of it and maybe add some SF 2 or 4 characters and release it in arcades like the throw back SNK style and have SF3 and SF2 HD Remix… I mean Daigo even says he thinks SF2HD would be a hit in japan… That would rock!
But i guess the Japanese aren’t into brain storming… SF4 is a glorified SF2 with FA and RE5 is RE4 with a graphics update and coop…or so they say:wow:
I don’t think the T6 machines were that much cheaper… Weren’t they linked up as well?
Plus, we really don’t know how well SF4 sold in Japan and other countries. Hell, I don’t even think we got real offical “concrete info” for US sales. Capcom never put out that data? Anyways, if we hear of a upgrade or sequel at TGS, then that pretty much silences the nay-sayers and rumors.
SF4’s mechanics are way more fun than 3S’s. Ultras are better than Super Arts. The new EX system is 10,000 times better. Focus attacks kick ass. Parries are neat but I’d rather have Just Defend and guard cancels garou-style.
No they werent, with 3S’ you had to worry about infinites, death combo’s, Chun’s bullshit, and other shenanigans. This game makes you focus on fundamentals of your character so you can do well. And how does it discourage aggressiveness, Cammy, Gen, Rufus, Abel, Akuma, Sagat, Ryu, Ken, Blanka, Fei Long, Sakura, Bison, Balrog, they are all heavy attack characters. Just because people on line turtle their ass with Balrog online doesnt mean it encurages turtleling. Think of it this way.
What is easier to invade a castle or defend one. Its obvuis that defending one is the easier thing, but what happens once the King figuers out a way in? The defenders have a hard time defending. Most people know the first half of the statement, but not the last half.
And with things like FA it gives some one the excuse to be super agresssive, blocked SRK no worry you can get out of it FA cancel. Dont blame the game for your short comings, in fact things like parry, and custom combo’s encoruge turtleling which lead you to wait for you opponent to do a block string so you can do a 50+% combo on him.
One more thing dont cry about big stages, you want to Zangief to be even more annoying, you want to get cornerd easier, in fact a smaller stage will encourage turteling because there is less room for movement and more room for wall combo’s
Lol, why the f*ck are you attacking on me this? Did you not read my last sentence? I said that I didn’t necessarily agree with the points I mentioned. I was merely stating the points that are raised most often on these boards in answer to the guy who asked a legit question.
Get a damn clue before ranting your ass off while COMPLETELY missing the point of my post. Some people… rofl
Defending a fortified structure is MUCH easier than overtaking one. If you had the first clue about the tactics of war, or any knowledge of military strategy, you would realize how wrong you are.
In the Dark and Middle ages, many castle sieges only ended when the invaders cut off the water and food supply from the OUTSIDE, because it was literally impossible to get past the defenses of a structure that was purpose built to keep people out.
Utilizing the advantages of a structure like a well built castle, many times in history a small group of people have defended themselves against a MUCH larger invading force.
I’m sorry for this post being a tangent, but I could not let your horrific post slide.
I HIGHLY recommend that you take a history course.
I’m kind of on the fence about the viewlix cab point. When I was visiting Tokyo, only like half the arcades I visited that had SF4 had them on viewlix cabs, and they were all very prominent spots like mikado, big box and game versus. I don’t see why the less well known, hole in the wall type spots couldn’t just put them on regular cabs.
There are no infinites in 3rd Strike. SFIV has infinites but the baby damage scaling makes them mostly useless or only worth looping until the opponent is dizzy. The only character in 3S with death combos that are practical in a tournament against technically every character is Makoto. Obviously with using her SA2 abare tosanami super. Even then there’s only specific places on the screen where she can set it up so that makes it technically less practical than it could be overall and most people just stick to her more efficient but less deadly SA1. Oro has his 100 percent stun crap but it only works on like 3 characters (one being Chun Li…who even with that he still loses 8-2 against) and execution wise is pretty difficult (like most all 100 percent combos).
I don’t know about you but when Ryu or Sagat has 2 meters and ultra I tend to slow down my offense a little bit in SFIV. Maybe some of you other guys like getting hit by an unpunishable shoryu that leads to free damage but I’ve learned through enough tournaments that it’s not worth the risk. Ryu and Sagat can just randomly come in on most characters in the game and just bulldog their FADC Ultra’s in. Maybe that’s offense for one side of the table but the opponent better be blocking or baiting shoryus like their life depends on it. Once those 2 characters get the arguably most powerful tool in the game most people back off or do a lot of baiting to get Ryu to do something else other than throw a shoryu (which is your only chance of doing any damage to them without putting yourself at insane risk of eating an ultra).
I guess it’s still better than having to deal with 2 metered 3S Chun…but not by a whole lot.
Considering how Capcom treated SFIV originally (all hush hush, then released with a bunch of other secrets), I wouldn’t doubt this is just their way of getting us to salivate a little more. Not to mention that if they don’t release a new SF (or update/Dash/whatever), most fans will get pissed once the Ryu/Sagat battle goes into it’s next few years
yeah, but i was thinking about the iliac, jericho, etc when i posted. Yes its true it is harder to defend a structre ex are aztecs, incans, alamo, etc.
I love SF4 and wouldnt mind a new version with more characters. I been waiting so long for a SF game its all i ever play now. I have no interest in any MMOs coming out or other console games. Im prob some of the small % that would buy a new version of SF4 every year.
Hope capcom pumps out some more SF, doesnt have to be this year or next. As long as i know a new version is coming out in a year or so would be great!
