Sprode, how would your Six-side Gate look like?
I try to draw it out, but I can’t.

Is it like a baseball Home Plate with its pointed end cut off?
Another way to say is like a Stop Sign with a flatter top?
As I normally play a balrog, it was really really important to have the flat top from the square gate for headbutt into ultra. That is what started all of this.
Now that I have played some other chars with this gate, I have considered a notch at the bottom as well.
THe problem is that square gates are essentially different in construction of the polygon: large fillets on the edges and a not quite flat segment across the “flat” areas.
anyway, I am catching a plane in a few minutes until thursday so there won’t be any substantive results until then.

I have an extra 15 minutes, I was going to edit but it isn’t letting me.
To nagoo81: I have been messing around with just the gates, I am not yet sure what the retaining mechanism is or if I would be able to get it out cleanly. If i were able to get out JUST the insert (read 4 or 8 way section vs whole part) it may be possible to create the physical hybrid you speak of.
For now: A table vice, low speed dremel, and steady hands are the best I am going to do.
To Sazae: I know what you mean. I just love toying with stuff like this, which is why I have so much hardware out of the gate. I do this with everything I own, and am have 4 custom computers and a car that makes 665 rwhp.

I’d always play on standard gates, so that when you need to play without your modified controller you aren’t completely screwed.

Just play on whatever stick you got, get used to different sticks. If you play seriously, who knows, there may be a time where you need to use a different stick with different buttons and gates. Get used to playing while sitting, get used to playing while standing up, and if the occassion is right, get used to playing while laying down…

If you are planning on entering tournaments use standard square gate, that’s what they used in arcades in Japan and America.
Methinks the people who are spending their days trying to create these god awful things are not the type of people who we will be seeing at EVO this year.

Wouldn’t a six way gate have to have the bottom half of an octo-gate and a triangle top, that’s the only way I can think of it being a six way? Having a square top would still be an eight direction gate.
I have no idea what advantage you’d get with such a gate, can’t you jump back and forward just as easily with an octogate than a square?

wtf man. A 6 way gate would refer to the number of INPUTS that are allotted. Not the gate itself. square gates and octo gates are the same as they both have 8 different inputs.
So, a 6 way gate would be something like having full functionality of the top of a regular gate minus like…the two diagonals on the bottom…DownBack and DownForward.
