Matt laying that hammer dooown.
Since the tension in this thread it killing me let me try to be the most diplomatic out of all my fellow Davis locals. Everything and every rule is not set because of selfishness or favoritism. The guys are just trying to make things as efficient/smooth/fast as possible. The goal for these guys is to create an awesome event and being great hosts for the 50+ people we have in the arcade.
As stated, the reason people desired to have the finals on the machines are because we are like 1 out of 10 places in the nation that actually have an arcade cabinet. We want it to be a special experience when you come down and visit our tournaments.
Last week there was no enforcement of âplay where we tell youâ for all the matches (except for the finals). As a result the tournament probably ran an hour or two later because people were waiting for systems to clear. This new rule is to get stuff rolling. Do not get me wrong - I personally love being at these events for 8 hours; however, some people like to get their matches done and then leave - more power to them.
The console character rule was originally in placed again because we are running a cabinet and we wanted to play the finals on it. Not really much else to say. Pieguy is one of the coolest cats in the scene. Even if you were a no name and wanted to play a console character he wouldnât tell you to piss off. His choice of words and sarcasm can be confusing to people that may not know him but he was just trying to ensure that this tournament and itâs rules were taken seriously.
console is garbage
I just wanna say that itâs pretty fuckin dumb how people like to troll or attempt to make drama off the littlest sarcastic remarks ever, especially when you donât even know tournament organizers or people that are trying to make the sf4 scene big.
Honestly, I run tournaments with the people at muga for the scene, not cause it gives MUGA business and not for profit. Itâs for the love of the game.
Itâs a shame when people with stupid attitudes decide to make retarded flame posts instead of logically posting about why a rule should or should not be changed. Posts like markâs make sense and are welcome, which is why we always accept input when making these tournaments.
Stupid posts like this just make me hate this scene.
Console setups are an extra luxury we try to provide in order to speed things up. They shouldnât be causing delays like they were last tournament. That is all.
edit: is hazeandfire the dude who skipped out on paying drew $5 for that coopa bet @ munchies? I hope not.
I just want to say THANK YOU to everyone involved with running the MUGA tourneys. I know you guys work hard and put in time to make sure things go smoothly and make sure that there are not issues.
you guys all Rock!

p.s ggs to Jack/korea/Pieguy today at the davis card store!

Thatâs all I have to say. I was going to make a WoT talking about all the work you, Dan, and Marty have done for us at the MUGA and for our niche community such as always staying behind or going early to the tournies to set/clean things up. Fuck it though, Big Boss sums up everything. Thanks. Itâs understandable that youâd be upset when youâre being called out over questionably trivial things.
I didnât have any bad intentions in my last post, and I do like what you guys bring to the scene. The tournament I went to this month was well organized and brings the scene together. Plus I like you guys personally, and respect what you all bring to the table.
On another note: is it officially 3v3, or is there still debate about 2v2/3v3??
3vs3. More hype, bigger pot probably and more variety. Itâd be annoying to have honda/ryu, ryu/gief, ryu/bison, ryu/____ all day.
We didnât take ur post as bad intentions at all so dun worry mark. We appreciate the input and ur argument is definitely valid which is why we took the route of no console charâs at all. We take most input as important and are always down to answer questions.
In general, people are waaay to abrasive and troll this board way too hard with drama. Shitâs dumb.
edit; u need more hennesy mark.
lol yeah im gonna restock after rams tournament tomorrow
can we have an official prize of a bottle of henny to the winning team?
No cause when we look away, itâll disappear. Mark will own that shit.
yeah ill be all on that
next time i come up to davis, hopefully we can drink and smoke and play some console pieguy / mark/ jack / dantron / korea / tanaka / everyone else.
note: only sober console is garbage
Well, the sticks definately arenât the same as most sticks people are using for Sf4 (Japstyle square gates versus the circular, super soft sticks at muga), and I definately heard at least one person being forced to play on a cab, you canât deny that Muga regulars are going to have an advantage on them. I understand the reasons behind wanting the cabs but that doesnât change the fact that you are compromising how fair it is for competetors who donât play on Fantas. At least realize that rather than dismiss peopleâs concerns as crying over sticks. Fairâs fair.
Really not trying to flame, it just sounds a lot like you have to be chosen worthy to use a console charecter and that doesnât seem fair. If itâs a matter of time then ya, no consoles makes more sense. If you accomidate for some (only competant console player in nor cal?? whatever you sayâŚ) but not for others, I donât know how that can possibly call that fair. No consoles makes perfect sense.
And Iâve never partaken in a money match at munchies.
Players at muga donât really have a stick preference usually. Coopa plays on jap octos, jack on happs, korea on w/eâs and me on a happ as well. The korean stick is just something weâve grown used to, just like japanese sticks since all other muga cabs are p360âs. We donât really care what setup we end up getting placed on cause weâve been to so many tournaments lately, weâve all just learned to deal with it. You either let it handicap you or you donât.
When Korea goes over to japan to compete for sbo, they use jap sticks half the time even tho they greatly prefer fantaâs, and just learn to live with it. Itâs the same thing here.
I used allen as an example as competent because heâs the only console character thatâs actually placed well in actual norcal tournaments. His tournament placement speaks for itself. He did decently at fudruckers and does well during weeklyâs at 707 munchies. John B also does well with fei long but switched lately to ryu.
In terms of fairness to me personally, I think people playing console characters without being able to make it past three rounds is just a waste of everybodyâs time due to needing a console specifically. If you end up having a firm enough grasp of a console character to do well at tournaments, then by all means itâs worth the wait and effort to get you a console setup. I myself would like to see console characters do well. But the fact is, they most often do not and requiring people to wait just so that crackfiend or mark can beat the shit out of ur sakura in 30 seconds would be inconsiderate (hypothetical situation). For now, fairness isnât an issue cause console characters are out so we can dodge stupid drama like this.
Back in the days, it didnât matter. If you had to play on shitty sticks, you have to win on shitty sticks. End of story.
I wanna make love in this club⌠HEY

This is me trolling. <3
Console characters are out. The end. Conversation over.
The tournament is advertised as an ARCADE tournament. Hence you play on an arcade cabinet. Based on your statements, Iâm guessing your a console player. Thatâs cool. But part of playing in an arcade is adjusting to sticks/buttons that you are unfamiliar with and you compensate.
Will someone who plays on the sticks somewhat regularly be more adept? Maybe.
get hype?
Nah Iâm a Sagat player.
Watching the last tournament people were missin ultras left and right, watch Mark and Combofiendâs first match, that shit was happening all day. Itâs obvious whoâs running on a handicap from the stick and the fact that he still won doesnât change that. No offence to Muga (really!) but a lot of people were complaining about how loose the sticks were (they bobbled around for days if you flicked them and let go), and how weak their return to center was. Problems like that are overshadowed by raw hours played on the sticks by the Muga regulars, itâs the truth. If youâre that used to a stick you donât realize all the flaws in it. With worn and torn sticks there comes a point where it really hinders gameplay unless your completely used to it and can have the time to sit and learn the stick.
Sorry if I came off too harsh in that first post, it just all didnât sit well with me at all, and I kinda had a friend egging me on (I wonât say names, it wasnât him typing afterall). I just canât help but say something when something doesnât seem fair in a tourney, and maybe I took a sarcastic comment too seriously. My stance on the sticks stays though, maybe I should have presented my arguement with less agression but when Iâm seeing my friends missing ultras because they have an obvious disadvantage, I feel like someone has to speak up, since right now everyone who complains about the sticks feels like they need to do so quietly. I acctually like Fantas a lot but fact is most of the competetors outside of Muga, donât. I love the rubber pad resistance but it just feels like those rubber pads are far past their glory days and might need replacing.
Above all I just want to see a legit tourney where the people who take the time to drive out to Davis from out of town donât have any reason to feel like they didnât have as fair a chance as the Muga locals.
My 2 cents, Iâll say it quieter next time.
like we said it is an arcade tournament. the SFSU tournament played on thier cabinets and nobody blew up on them. if we only had 12 people at these things there would be no need for the console. the consoles are not there to be anything more than have everything run faster.
ARCADE TOURNEY NOT A CONSOLE TOURNEY.
explanations are whiffing in this thread.
