I guess so. It gets updated frequently, so they might find a solution soon enough. However, some ppl say it runs fine on windows 7. It may end up as a PC build issue, like processor compatibility with windows 7 or low RAM speed, though. I do not need to care as much now. I like 3SOE as much as FBA 3s on XP. But, I am not a fan of PSN and the matchmaking options.
I wasn’t trolling I was legitimately asking a question. I hate the internet sometimes since you can’t hear the tone and inflection of my voice. And I wouldn’t dare troll louiscipher he is one of the troll gods. If I did Id get trolled to oblivion and probably kill myself from depression.
I don’t understand why people even use Vista or Win7, their compatibility sucks, they are less efficient than XP, they demand more hardware etc… but anyway, I use XP + FBA and everything seems to work fine here.
Seems like the sound is worse in the latest version of FBA. Everything sounds tinny. It did fix the frameskipping as far as I can tell, though.
If you do stuff that requires legit 64 bit software, you can’t really get by with XP. XP 64 bit is pretty sketchy. Better use of multicore processors, more than 4 gigs of ram, there’s several places where 7 is better than XP. For emulation though XP is better almost across the board, yeah.
XP.
XP’s support is nearing end and when it does it’s open for all kinds of viruses and shit, so you’ll have to go Win7 or bust. Or you can use Linux, but enjoy your no games.
WinXP is like a toy, I don’t consider it a real OS and I don’t use it for serious purposes. It’s nice for playing some games with a good out-of-the-box compatibility, so I see it like having a video-game. I don’t really mind if it will or not lose support, Microsoft programmers are a bunch of incompetent fools anyway. I will use it as long the community is hacking it and effectively making the improvements that Microsoft was never capable of doing.
Oh, it’s a common misconception that you can’t play games in Linux, but actually there are a lot of games that are released natively for Linux. All you need to do is double click it, install and play it - just like Windows. And for those released only for Windows, take a look at this:
Besides Wine, there is also CrossOver, Win4Lin and, of course, you can always emulate any OS within linux using a VM. And if you use Virtualbox’s “Seamless mode”, there is a bonus: emulated apps seems native. Using these tools, I am able to play in linux almost all the games that I play when I’m in winXP partition. I can also use all emulators for all consoles in linux too, so I can play any rom I want. I even emulated Internet Explorer - the most problematic Windows app to emulate - within linux. Here, take a look:

It’s not a matter of possibility, it’s a matter of skills. Linux is not meant to be used by an ordinary/casual computer user anyway, Windows would be the a better pick for these people. If casual users try to use Linux, they will not be able to do anything and they will probably say that Linux sucks, but actually what really sucks is their skills. So, if you hear that someone tryed to play games in Linux but he couldn’t because “linux sux”, translate it to “I tryed to use linux, but I suck and I will forever be a mediocre Windows user, but I’ll blame Linux for my lack of skills” hehehe
Yeah, you can’t rely on WinXP for 64 bits purposes, but you souldn’t count on Vista/7 too anyway. If you think that Vista and Win7 are good alternatives for 64 bits support, take a look at linux 64 bits real-time kernel.
No frameskip on XP either. It seems FBA got another update recently. The emulation speed is fixed on XP. Compared to v0.2.97.19, this new version 0.2.97.21 is not CPU heavy. The CPU processing ranges from 0-2% instead of 10-25%. Of course, FBA 3s runs faster than arcade or 3SOE, but the speed is identical to older FBA versions (Looks optimized).
Combos, hit confirms, input delay, seem fine on XP at least. No dropped inputs.
PS2 3s remains the fastest 3s version by far.
The newest FBA build should run smooth on older processors/machines,as well.
I am not sure about any possible sound issues. The music sounds the same as before for me.
3SOE arranged music sounds the best btw.
What’s this I hear? Linux runs games now? Hah! Next you’re probably going to say that Apple laptops have Intel CPU’s and can run Windows XP on them with the help of some magic program! Please do not insult my intelligence, I’ve taken Computer Science III so I know what I’m talking about.
Jokes aside, Wine actually works decent now? I’ll have to look into because I’m seriously considering switching to using Linux after XP’s support ends because Windows 7 seems like a fucking mess that is going to be rolled over in way of Windows 8 anyway soon enough. Vista was just as much a waste of time, never bought into it. While XP has also always been quite a mess (I still get frequent explorer.exe crashes) It’s been quite good as long as you don’t demand too much from it and know how to take care of it properly (fresh install every 6 months) But yeah, Linux really isn’t something your grandma could pick up, and most likely I’ll struggle with it first, but I’ll mostly get the hang of it. Will have to look into something easymode like Gnome. The only real problem is the lack of drivers for older, and sometimes even newer, hardware like this POS laptop I’m using now. Top brand manufacturers like ATI, AMD, Nvidia, etc. Linux support has always been either a joke or completely non-existent.
Yeah, unfortunately hardware compatibility sometimes can be a trouble in Linux (bleeding edge hardware most), but it’s due to the manufacturer’s negligence. It’s the manufacturer responsability to provide drivers for their product. If you have to choose between Intel x AMD, always choose Intel. Its compatibility is exemplary. They contribute with kernel source code, so their drivers are built within kernel and it means that almost 100% of Intel products work out-of-the-box in Linux, you just plug and play - no driver, no installation and no nothing. And if you have to choose between NVIDIA x ATI, run as far as you can from ATI. They don’t care about Linux users market share and a lot of their products don’t have drivers until now, with no perspective of release. NVIDIA, differently, releases proprietary drivers for all their products (at least I don’t know any NVIDIA video card that currently doesn’t run on Linux). They have a software of their own to install and configure NVIDIA cards (it’s similar to that one for Windows). And for the rest of the hardware, if you intent to use Linux you must always check the hardware compatibility before buying, not after. But a lot of hardwares work perfectly fine in Linux.
About Wine, well, Wine is Wine huahaua… I think almost no games will run out-of-the-box, but with a little hacking you can put a lot of them to work properly. WineHQ is the best place to see if a game is currently running fine in Linux and to find tutorials about how to put it to run. CrossOver is a very good alternative for Wine, a lot of games will work with no additional hacking at all, you just install it and it will be emulated 100%, but CrossOver is proprietary and you have to pay. If you have a good hardware, you can try to emulate the game in a Virtual Machine too. Depending on the resources the game use, and depending on your hardware, you can be quite successful. And if you are a lazy user like me, you could have a dual boot with WinXP, so when you desperately want to play a new game without worrying about configuration and stuff, you just run to Windows and be happy. Then later, when you are bored, you go back to Linux, do some research and put the game to work in Linux too.
If you’re planning to get to know Linux, I suggest you Linux Mint LMDE or Debian. Mint is very user friendly and based on Debian, I think it’s the best pick for new users. And Debian, well, Debian is Debian - the best and most solid Linux distribution of all times. If you decide to go with Debian, you can find me on Debian Forums (Brazillian and International) as renatov too. I could try to help you if you need some assistence
I tried playing 3SOE again and I feel this clip best sums it up: h ttp://youtu.be/mKnl0CvfeLs?t=1m32s
I start it up and try player matches. Nothing has changed on PS3. Still 8 lobbies, a majority of them are red or yellow. I find one that’s green and I join, after about 30 seconds his connection becomes yellow. I play him and he’s a scrubby Ryu and frame skips galore. Every other move with this guy frameskipped and I think I had the delay set to either 1 or 2. I stomp him and move on. Another lobby, with one guy who’s mic is too loud blasting the noise from the match he’s spectating. I move on to Ranked and wait about 2-3 minutes before I get someone, a yellow and he leaves, more yellows and reds then I finally get a yellow who accepts. It’s a scrubby Dudley who thinks he’s BA, more frameskips, half my moves don’t come out. I kara throw him to death.
It’s so sad.
I figured it out. I forgot to fix the audio samplerate. Just set it to the native for my setup (48000) and it’s all good now. So this version of FBA seems better across the board from what I can see.
3S shoulda’ been on the list.
That’s a surprising amount of self-awareness on display there.
Fair enough.
Do you think XBL would have been a better choice?
Well, since the XBox version shows more lobbies than just 8 like PSN, you would think XBL would be a better choice.
For two reasons (that are largely unimportant but still there): More people still online. Better connectivity.
So, yeah, at the base of everything, the X360 version is better. Whether or not the skill pool is better is to be seen, but the version is.
I played like 2 hours on ranked last night, and found plenty of people, but mostly on the amber/yellow light. Got like 15 in a row with Remy at one point, so the standard of play definitely isn’t like it was on GGPO. Ran into quite a few players who look like they were trying to apply SFIV tactics… lol
EDIT: I am a Live player.
Why you so mad? I got a report on this post…
This is the funniest thing I’ve read in this thread. Dude so fired up that his post being reported skipped the mods and went straight to the big guns. Rofl.
