You’ve misunderstood. I was talking about cabinets for use with consoles and not arcade boards. Simply to have some standard in controls, height, distance from opponent, distance from the screen, etc. That’s the only point there.
I know a few peeps who’ve made 'em. They’re never useless.
I don’t have a hardcore arcade mentality. I have a certain tourney mentality. You’ve gotten it mixed up. You misinterpreted what I was saying. No harm done.
Heheh, why not be satisfied that I’m the only one thinking like this? Just laugh and say I’m off my rocker. You’ve already thrown some of the dopest tourneys ever. Shit that I say should roll off of your shoulders by now.
Apoc: Nice ranting, It took me 15 minutes to go through all of your stuff Always hyping and wanting love for the community!
It should also be noted though that FFA should not try and complain or badmouth anything about EVL because if you have not realized, if not FOR EVL’s 3s tourney, FFA would not have the numbers or quality of players at the 3s ARCADE tournament they are throwing. It is noted that in fact, they are"feeding" off of the players coming for EVL. It’s not necessarily a BAD thing, but it’s similar to going to Gamestop, asking if they have Final Fantasy III, they say no, they “might” have it one of these days and then some dude in the store says he has one and sells it. Who gets hurt? Well, if not FOR the Gamestop, the person would not have went into the store. EVL is paying a lot of money to setup and throw this tournament. Family Fun is in effect feeding off of that, albeit it being a different tournament, but since it’s all for the players, and everyone will be happy anyway, then it’s all for naught! However, they (FFA) still should thank EVL for having the ability to coerce the largest contingency of players to come to a tournament in the US for fighting games. That is precisely why the tournament at FFA will be successful.
EDIT: About Capcom Fighting Evolution’s impending Japanese arcade release. I am not so sure that arcades are going to want to spend $1800-2000 to import a game here that is not being released in the USA. Some “might” but it could end up like Anniversary Edition. That’s in Japanese arcades. Who spent the $800 to get the board here and who is talking about it? Exactly. And yes, at EVL next year, I am sure that they would have $10,000 lying around for 5 arcade boards for a game that is going to be played mostly on XBX Live and PS2 anyway.
Capcom Fighting EVL is the first game where comp will mostly reside from online. That’s pretty scary.
FFA should also thank EVL for creating a situation where there’s so much disappointment and dissatisfaction that a renegade tournament can be a success.
Carnevil, I don’t know how disappointed they can be if they keep getting 400-500 heads each year! For as much complaining as I hear, they still attend
Oh no, I agree. This year will still be big, although it’s hard to say if it will be as big as last year (which was pretty much perfect IMO). There’s definitely people who aren’t going due to the console issue (I know plenty of people who are going to MWC simply because EVO is console), but it’s doubtful it will make THAT big of a dent. It will still be a big tournament. However, if this year leaves a sour taste in people’s mouths though, I can’t say the same for next year with any certainty.
… Isnt it on atomiswave? Wouldnt then you just need the cartage? Dont most arcades have atomiswave mainboards already? Im sure the arcade version will have a language setting to switch it to English? I doubt the cart will be $2000 even brand new, probably around $700-900 Id think? I dont give a shit about it being at evo or not, Im just hoping US arcades will actually get it at some point… also if capcom coin-op went out of business how did they make this game?
OH SHIT even paulee said its to early to tell…
ink i respect what you do… but u must know that, that is ur whole argument right there ALL 3 ‘TOP PLAYERs’ have said it is too early to tell… who else do ya still want to point out that has tested it? … you gotta know when you’re wrong man… that’s the mark of a leader/organiser… to know hen they’ve made a mistake…u gotta admit man!
oh and dream… i know man… but they said they were gonna go superguns… so i think they should know where to get them…its just the whole changing without asking deal… like apoc said i think the ego is steppuing in dude… they’re obssesed with making it “bigger and better” , but they’re lossing the community…
and who the hell is Philly Backer?.. he keeps talking like he’s top dog…
Lovelessmotion, you are still making no point to inkblot though. DO you have cabinets and boards? If so, provide EVL with 10 3S cabinets and boards, and I am sure he will gladly oblige all of anyone’s 3S issues. Console is Console, Arcade is Arcade, this is a CONSOLE tournament.
Also to OOOOH who wrote

Capcom Coin-Op in USA went out of business, not Japan.
FFA should be thankful for EVO? that makes just as much sense as EVO needing to be thankful towards FFA. people complain, but people still come. like Ive said though, results wont be what they would be if it were on arcade.
edit: I wouldnt go to EVO if it wasnt an hour drive. but I never did travel for tournaments anyway, even if it was a free trip. still. iono see yall at EVO
Soo, you don’t think they should? Do you seriously think that they would get the turnout that they are going to get (probably around 50 or so with Japanese players) if there WASN’T a tournament bringing in tons of players already that weekend? That is a basic business ideal. The arcade is going to make a ton of cash that weekend too because of a convention coming in, it’s pretty standard. Just like the guys selling T-Shirts on the street in front Of Staples Center would not make much cash if the Lakers were not playing that specific night.
It’s Cause and Effect, because of EVL Family Fun is holding a 3s Arcade tourney. It makes sense, but if not for EVL being that weekend, FFA would not have that tournament with all of the linked Japan vs USA stuff going on.
As for what system Capcom Fighting Evolution will run on, it is unknown as of now.
oh, I meant like in a different aspect. not like, we should be on our knees thanking EVO you know? aite, Im out this bitch. see yall at the Cal Poly monthly. I mean, EVO. JP JP DONT GET MAD IM JOKING
IM SILLY.
There is a standard, currently it’s Dreamcast (xbox will be making a run shortly, oh have you tried A3 on xbox I hear its nice =P) bring your own stick, no button mapping and such. Height is whatever you feel comfortable with.
Distance from the opponent became non-standard anyway, some like head to head, some like side by side, there’s no real agreement to be made there (and if you were playing vs japan it had to be head 2 head anyway). I believe an upcoming event (FL or OH or something) has H2H big screens, but usually people would rather have more stations available.
Another problem with preserving arcade cabinets is that half the people don’t even want em anymore. US sticks are falling out of favor with a good # of players, and even with US sticks there is a divide between 360 and switch, etc… The best part about consoles is that none of that matters at all, if you want a classic arcade feel you can get it, and noone will care. You just can’t force your opponent to play like you want them to.
If you want some arcade stuff ask 2Tikkets about his stick http://www.shoryuken.com/forums/attachment.php?s=&postid=1533708
perhaps you and some arcade people could just get 2-4 of them and use it, maybe agreeing that a local will buy them outright at a reduced cost. Of course thats the brute force way of doing it, but there are others.
The US release for the SF collection (i think this the 3s one) was pushed back a month till Aug 24. Since the official release is after evo, do you think they might put some changes in the game your copy won’t have? I know you guys have contacts with Capcom so if srk can clear this up it will be much appreciated :).
Thanks
p.s. See you guys at the expo   jkjk:lol:
Sup Ski:) Just wanted to clear a few things up. Smash isn’t wack. Having Smash while, at the same time, ommitting a game like SFA3, which should be a staple, is wack. So…
Smash+A3=cool Smash+no A3=wack. SF comes first in my book. Afterall we’re still talking about the SF scene and not the Smash scene. The Smash scene can put Smash first. I understand how it can bring more ppl to the event but, so could a couple of hot strippers. I’m all for bringing more peeps but, not when longtime attendees get the shaft.
I mean nothing regarding Smash, as a game, itself. I don’t know enough about the game to make a judgement on its’ merits as a fighting game. It has zero merit as a street fighter or capcom game so, it can play 2nd fiddle and like it.
I do believe SF to truly be separate from all other fighting scenes. Others have tried to copy but, SF held onto ppl more than any other game for a much longer time. It’s head and shoulders above the rest in that sense and it completely dominates the entire last decade of 2d fighting games. So, is SRK exclusive? If it isn’t, why do I see 90% capcom and SF being discussed throughout SRKs history. SRK was built on the SF scene. I don’t mind making Evo grow but, not at the risk of the foundation. SF is exclusive to me as I see it as the foundation of it all. Not that we exclude all the homies that prefer other games but, that SF gets the respect it’s earned. SF first and foremost and then add in others once the foundation is satisfied.
Just clearing it up. That’s old news, I know. We’ve seen 4 straight years of smaller tourneys getting SFA3/3s/ST/CvS2/MvC2 right while the “Big One” can’t seem to do it.
Going back to B5 we had the exhibition. There were circumstances so, no biggie. Then Evo excludes A3 and 3s in 2k2(exhibition is not truly catering to the fans of those games). At least they were repped, somewhat, and why I think the Evo2k2 dvd is the best one still in regards to SF. Being an SRK poster, I really don’t care about all of the added games in Evo2k3. Had they had the entire foundation and then added the other games, it would’ve been something to me. Now, 4 years in a row Evo can’t get mvc2/cvs2/sfa3/3s/st in one tourney. The flagship of SF can’t find reason enough to make it happen? K, 4 years is jumping the shark. The excuse that you can’t please everyone is BS. Most ppl will be pleased if it’s evident that SF is getting the honest try. There are no proposals coming from SRK for this. They’d rather just add new games. Then the scene is reliant on new, good games. That isn’t happening. If CFAS was released, Evo might have had that instead of another SF. Stupid. The better SF is the better SF. There isn’t a better SF2 so ST is still repped. To me, that makes sense. Even if only 50ppl entered it. Yay, we get to see the new CFJ whether it sucks or not. I don’t care. See, mvc2/cvs2/sfa3/3s/st are all respected games that earned their place. New games can prove themselves worthy. But right now, those past games are worthy and should be kept as a staple of the community or the community will turn into nothing but kids. When the teens now grow up, the next will take their place instead of SF being an all age thing. Evo will attract the players of newer games only, soon. I rather liked the idea of seeing the old players with the new players. That made me appreciate the SF scene even more. Now, it’s only gonna cater to the newer generation instead of everyone. That is a weaker Evo. I’m all for Evolving. I’m not for cutting off pieces and leaving them behind to do so.
Just wanted to clear that issue up. I don’t see why some fools like Philly Nuthanger get so heated. I’ve had the same opinion for years. I still attended. I was definately going to get my point across, however. I may do it every year until the foundation formula is satisfied since, I feel strongly about it. It’s not SF anymore when you cut some fools off like that. I’m gonna say what I can to keep shit from becoming just another videogame competition.
Hey! That’s my stick! IN all seriousness, that stick weighs 125 pounds. It does not move when you are playing, and you can totally spaz out and do spastic moves when need be and instant uppercuts…I will bring to EVL. Anyone who wants to use it for tourney can at rental charge. =P
Well maybe not as much as 10, but we could definatly provide some 3s cabinets…I do remember offering some h2h 3s cabinets somewhere in these threads for evo, and they said no
Shogo, that is why they can’t do it. Too much trouble getting the things over there and with the AMOUNT of people going, 10 is a MINIMUM that they would be able to utilize. This is why the decision was made to go to Console. The US Arcade 3S Championship is at MWC, and the Console Championship is at EVL. 1st place Console tourney at EVL is probably going to be $1000. That’s a good incentive to learn console quick which will probably now be DC or Super Gun due to the delayed release date for PS2 version.
