Im playing SF IV only because everone else plays it here . If capcom would bring a SF III 4th contact or SF III 3rd Strike HD Remix i would leave SF IV immidently.
3RD strike looking like HDR?
Oh please god no, Just fix it up so it looks smooth on hd and that’s it, but please no HDR, 3S is beautiful already.
I actually enjoyed playing sf4, but my sister recently took away my XBox and honestly, I don’t really miss playing sf4, and I don’t think I’d be bothered to get into it again, heck I’m looking forward to even playing marvel more, and I lose all the time on that game.
I mean it shoud look more like blazblue and KOF 2d HD.
Yeah Okay I’d agree with that.
…
YOU GUYS
ARE FUCKING GAY
totally agree.
you should change your name to Modander
Honestly I say they just take the MVC2 route. Normal, crisp or smooth.
I really dont want the graphics redone.
From what I recall, didn’t everyone but the Japanese hate SF3 in general at first because it was so different? Everybody thought it was so simple.
hmmm…
I played SF4 briefly, but the only character I didn’t hate was the same one everyone else was using. Plus I don’t have time to play more than one fighting game right now. Once Super comes out, I’ll give it another test run, because Guy is one of my favourite SF characters.
I love how when I bash SF4 on youtube I get ppl all over me…
It’s more like why is everyone playing SF4 and no one is playing Third Strike.
Is Third Strike dead?
I mean Marvel is as old as Third Strike and it is still going strong IMO (I don’t know the official numbers when it comes to players). Today it’s hard to find players who are into 3S because everyone jumped on SF4.
First of all let me say that I love third strike. It’s the greatest fighting game ever made. As a fighting game it is so sophisticated. The gameplay of 3S is the peak of SF game play. No other SF game is more complicated and has as much depth as third strike. Not even Super Turbo (Which I love).
The downside to this is that since 3S is super technical, it is one of the hardest games to get into. The learning curve is high and at first when you learn 3S it is not as thrilling as a game like A3 at first imo. It takes a while to learn the games intricacies. And it is because of the high learning curve and the technical nature of 3S is that it’s alienating to a lot of fighting game players, especially new ones.
I believe that if they wanted to Capcom could have made SF4 a highly technical game even more so then 3S. But since highly technical gameplay does not translate into dollars for Capcom, with SF4 Capcom decided to destroy the whole system and start over with the original format i.e. SF2 like gameplay.
If you’re into history this kinda make sense. When a society gets overcivilized i.e. Roman Empire, it needs to be destroyed and conquered and return to it’s primal roots so that new people can be a part of the society i.e. the Barbarians that followed the Roman Empire (I know this is just a generalized version of history).
So SF4 in a way is destroying the old world and it’s history and starting over. The cycle begins again. SF4 is returning to it’s orgins.
I love 3S with a passion but I think it is too “geeky”, meaning a lot to understand, for new blood to get into. 3S is a lot superior to SF4 but since it’s the SF where all the competition is, I think third players should get into it, especially if SSF4 is rumored to have Dudley, Makoto, and Ibuki.
I don’t know Third does not have a wide appeal unlike Marvel. Maybe it needs an online (But only online nothing added) since there are no arcades and 3S for the most part today is an arcade game. I tried to get ppl playing third last week on my 3S machine and everyone is just into SF4.
I hopeful, however, that third will have a resurgence once…
If you really love 3s, then the possibility of 3s characters in another series, or more competition aren’t really good reasons to switch.
I fear that if ucla never got sf4, all the sf players (3s players and otherwise) wouldn’t even COME to the arcade, and it’d close as a result :(…
JR Rodriguez told me online play is faster, so he doesn’t even like playing in the arcade cos he feels his timing is off…or perhaps just that it’s not as fun and fast-paced that way.
I’m trying to get into it, but my fave’ characters are among the harder to use in high-level play. I wish there were more new characters. I’m also HORRIBLE at the game cos the timing feels so weird. I started w/ Zangief cos he hadn’t changed much and my idea of breaking in a new sf game is to try using him or a grappler instead of a shoto, but even he seemed different cos of his weird walk speed and jumps! Combos feel a lot different, which is ok, so maybe I can adapt to that, but also, I watched a lot of the presumed high-level-play vids online, and if I see 2 characters w/ projectiles, I get to watch THIRTY-SECOND “fireball fights”–perhaps so they can both build meter…maybe I can find those Japanese vids on youtube and link them haha
I actually still prefer the EX series to sf4, even though I’m one of the closet semi-EX fans, but to be a huge fan of sf4 would embarrass me more, maybe
'and sorry to see that Joe the Condor got double-perfected: even if he wanted to get neg-repped LOL. If someone keeps getting neg-repped, they might get ocv’ed as well…
You saying that playing 3rd strike on a hd tv is good?
They should change it so that it looks the same on a HD tv because it only looks good on a standard TV.
Well for me at least.
Nice Avatar btw.
I like all SF’s (ST, Third, Alphas), grew up playing them all, but I like third strike the best. I rather play that then any other SF. But in today’s SF climate, everything is 4! 4! 4!. Everyone I know is bitching about third on how they hate the parry. They’re weak. I have a friend who is really into Marvel and SF4 but he tells me third is garbage. He says it’s a dumb game and ppl only played it because it was the only SF game and the Japanese play it and that’s why Americans here play it. A stupid dumb comment. And when ever I try to play third with him, he doesn’t take it seriously, and all he uses is tweleve just to piss me off. He won’t change characters.
With this attitude I don’t know how ppl are even gonna get into third now. I visit my other friend in SD this weekend and used his place as storage for one of my 3S machines and no one plays third. It’s all SF4 down there. I think right now So Cal is the only 3S place today where you can get a good amount of competition (Denjin is the best and FFA is not as bad as ppl today think. Regency has it’s moments).
I also managed to convinced the owner of Cameron arcade in Santa Ana to get a showcase third so that ppl could play it but even there the attitude there is that third is garbage (And they play everything. CVS2 also). Third is such a polarizing game. People love it or hate it (I think it mainly has to do with the parry. The best invention in SF history imo)
I’m not switching but these days I got to play both because SF4 is the game that easier to find comp. It’s the only way these days to get my SF fix. It sucks.
My friend who use to work in the arcade industry (He worked for SNK if that matters) tells me the theory that Capcom won’t release another SF online i.e. Alpha or 3S because they want ppl only playing SF4 right now (The latest game. When you think about it HDR was just a game to hype SF4). To a certain extent I believe that. The industry today is not in favor of third. They want the SF players only playing the new game. I’m sad because 3S players kept SF alive for 10 years.
So for those of you sticking to third you’re awesome. Third forever. Thanks for nothing Capcom.
Ni8wing: A lot of people (new players mainly) beat around the bush when giving reasons on why they don’t like 3S. Few admit to what seems to be one of the leading “real” reasons - It takes more input skill than most people are willing to commit themselves to developing. To be even somewhat competitive in 3S, you need to have accurate, consistent, “classic” FG execution, no questions asked. To reach the higher levels, you need badass, near-unerring execution. This is not to the liking of the average player or newcomer. SF4 allows you to pull off everything easily, so while learning it, the focus shifts to the more mental aspect of things a lot sooner than if you were to learn 3S.
Such a viewpoint is definitely understandable, but the depth pertaining to input skill ends up raising the overall skill ceiling in the end of things. 3S is a game of pushing the engine to the limit in order to get the most out of the character you’re playing. Option selects, charge partitioning/buffering, kara throws (that you need to get consistent with if you want to use certain characters), quick hit-confirm windows - and all the mindgames that arise around these quirks. You really need to invest time on dexterity and timing skills in order to play 3S like it’s supposed to be played, and this is a turnoff to most newcomers. I mean, with the time it took me to learn my shitty, cookie-cutter Urien + basic Aegis setups I could have learned to use the entire cast of SF4 to an alright degree twice over. So yeah.
Before someone gets their panties up in a bunch, I’m not saying 3S is the only SF title which requires good execution to play well. Though it is, IMO, the one that requires the most of it before you can get to the meat of the gameplay.
