I know it seems daunting to try to catch up to 3s players now, but you do have a few advantages that a lot of us didn’t while we were learning…
-Tons of videos on youtube of mid to master level play
-Lots of guides/FAQs/discussions to read from. This forum itself has tons of information about every character
-Lots of great players to ask for help
I know the last one is intimidating, but sometimes you gotta come out of your shell to get better at SF. I’d happily help almost anyone on these forums personally and I’d hope most of you other decent players would do the same. It’s the least I can do since so many other players did the same thing for me.
It’s never too late to start playing. Everyone should play a game that they enjoy, and not care so much about being #1. The fact is that only ONE person is #1, and everyone else falls behind and works towards being #1. If your goal is to be #1 in ANYTHING, you will find your goal is unattainable and get discouraged.
Just play for fun and stop worrying about how much money or fame is in something.
I just picked up Starcraft recently and I’m loving it, even though I’m awful. Does it discourage me that I’m never going to be a Korean pro-gamer? No. It’s just fun to play and improve.
While I totally agree you just have to understand that especially now its hard for people to improve in 3s when the scene is trying to level up as a whole in SFIV primarily.
I might get back on 3s because SF4 is a very great game but it just doesnt have a lot of depth like 3s & 3s has less people (which means more challenges). SF4 has a lot of casual players on it.
the biggest thing I don’t like about SFIV is the art direction and the ‘over the top’ character models, the funky weightless jumping motions/arcs makes it feels like all the fighters were either pumped up with helium or fighting in space, lacking a sense of momentum. The 3d models are very stiff, despite all having massive muscles and being on steroids, everything feels fat and completely unrealistic.
I dont’ like the background either.
as for SF3. It’s a masterpiece. It’s the last of it’s kind. Even in 20 years there will be retro gamers who still appreciate it. 2d fighters do not get better than this… If you use nice filters to blur the edges it’s like an interactive anime. That’s how fluid and well animated it is. Unless Capcom makes new 2d fighters it will live on as the top tier 2d fighting game along with SNK games like Garou:MOTW
the new SFIV fighting game is way more casual, they took a page out of the nintendo hall of shame handbook knowing that casual sells and hardcore 3s stuff doesn’t. Only sales matter and it IS a company.
on topic
i getting real bored with sf4 now.
i have to stay on that game constantly.
if i take a break from it i hate it again when i go back to it.
maybe the next version with more stuff to seperate it further from sf2 will help interest me longer.
3s is the best for me because it is all new and different (more or less)
like a horny new mistress while sf4 is the haggered old wife sf2 was in a fancy new dress.
sf4 is new so most people have time to catch on to the competition, 3s is just not wort putting all the work and the time into beeing super pro at it anymore.
at this point and time the only reason to play 3s is for the love of the game…
3s probably wont be at the next evo…look at how dead it was this year…nobody gave a shiznut unfortunatly
if it has focus attacks and a dumb ass shortcut or “easy mode” moves for people to shake the stick to then thats a BIG NO NO
i swear last time i went to ctf, i saw some random sagat player step up to the cab hoping to beat my friend by just shaking the stick and pressing buttons cuz thats literally what he did lol he just shaked the stick and moves ACTUALLY came out…i couldnt believe how stupid it was to see a player doing that :wow:
The game is a step backwards. I heard it called SF 2.5 before, which makes sense because in a sense, it’s still “new” in that it’s kind of a hybrid sf, but it’s in no way the revolutionary next installment in the series that most had hoped for.
