hahaha – sorry for appearing mean agentz. it’s just that sometimes questions that are posed are kind of obvious when you think about the situation. that’s how players should interpret and learn fighting games. they should think about it, because it will make sense. for the most part anyway. i can’t defend stupid games like…ohhh…CVS2.
but anyway, would you do a crouching forward or crouching strong if you’re really close to someone? strong of course, because forward has a longer activation, and coupled with the distance, it will usually get beat out by most moves. plus, if they block, you will get punished by instant-supers. but not with strong, because you recover before they recover from block stun. and would you use crouching strong if you are too far away from them? of course not. use crouching forward. and would you use crouching strong against someone who likes to parry forward? i would hope not. just ya know…think
Yeah, it’s cool exodus. I was just asking because I rarely see “top players” using anything but the cr forward or cr lk X 2. I wasn’t sure if this is habit (which is what my problem is) or if there was actually some reason. The only time I ever use strong is if I’m trying to stuff a move (Urien’s charge, Dudley’s charges) I’m trying to break myself of this habit and I’m using the strong more since it seems like it beats like %99 of everyone’s else’s moves. At least I’m not asking what the Evo song is or “I saw Tokido do like 4 shoulder charges, but you have to charge 2 whole seconds for the move!!”
I saw Daigo doing a lot of crouching forwards against Ohnuki (chun li player), and I think it’s because it combines the properties of hitting low, range, and more safety than a sweep. He was using it mostly to keep away. When facing chun li, he hardly did strong at all. He didn’t want to dash because chun li players always look for the down forward into super, and he’d have to be pretty damn close to use the strong. When facing certain other characters, strong is a good bet, but chun li’s low attacks are insane.
well, ken has to keep a good distance from chun. doing low forwards from a far range would achieve that goal. but the chun can develop instincts to low parry if you make it a habit. daigo plays according to fighting game mechanics.
Watching daigo in evo i noticed he was doing a ken combo i hadnt seen before and i need some opinions on this. He would punish blcoked supers and specials with lag with this combo mp->fp->strong srk 1 hit xx shippu now my question is. He had to be kara’ing the strong dp correct because this strong srk wont connect after mp->fp. Also does this have to be a specific kara aka roundhouse instead of forward etc? Your input would be mad respected.
But it just seems to me that Ken is underpowered in 3rd Strike. I do feel that his ex hurricane in the air is way under rated. For me, it’s always pleasing to surprise an opponent who thinks I will jump away from him, or attack with a normal punch or kick. Even crossing someone up with it makes a cool little surprise!

kris --> there is no kara. it’s just a normal strong/fierce/strong srk xx super. it just depends on how fast you press your strong/fierce and your distancing. there’s absolutely no way to kara-cancel while in a string of canceled moves [at least not that i know of]. remember, kara-canceling is doing a regular move, and then canceling it. you’re not able to strong fierce low forward are you?
Is there a trick to s. strong --> s. fierce --> fireball --> SA3? I did the motion but somehow it’s very awkward and not 100% coming out. Also, wuts the deal w/ b.fwd --> SA3? Thanx.
strong, fierce, down -> forward jab, down -> forward kick. it’s really easy once you have proper control/performance.
back + forward only links to SA3 on crouching characters, because your recovery is faster than the opponent’s, which allows you to do the super and connect before they recover.
OK I was wrong. back+forward into super only works when opponent gets hit crouching. Sorry for the confusion. This explains why I had trouble doing this in the past. Now it’s so easy Thanks guys.
