3rd Strike Match-ups

Id say paul pretty much summed it up right overall I didnt realise were talking about akuma and ryu overall as tiers i thought we were talking about the match up, in that case pauls right Akuma is better than Ryu for sure to be honest only thing holding Akuma down from being a top tier is the stamina IMO.
He is the king of mix up without a doubt though in the game.

ps kara raging demon aint bs:p lol I gotta admit though I still laugh at the number of people who get caught by it again and again lol.
Unfortunatly where I play now peeps look out for it bleh seen it a few times too many i think.

lol wilson – you said it yourself, mixup king. you know what to do

go play against japanese akumas and tell me that kara demon isn’t bs.

any blocked demon flip dive kick = free kara demon.

and don’t forget get about dash into DR… eesh…

like i said, kara demon is very easy to connect  only way to stop it is to constantly jump around, and we all know what kills jumping around. [air hurricanes]

akuma is back to #7, ryu is now #8.

akuma vs necro is no advantage.

Oh belive me I know how good kara RD is lol i know a even more stupid good way than them lol what I learned straight from Matche  .
I just trying to defend Akuma thats all  I don’t want him to fall into the “Cheap Category” thats all lol.
Demon is kinda boring though these days, I think people tend to forget how great his sa1 super art the messatsu gou hadou is. Coz peeps tend to get caught up in trying to land the demon all the time  Demon is fun vs general compo but vs people who you play on a regular basis its kinda boring since theyll watch out for it (and probably jump every time you do a dive kick or a dash:lame: )so its always good to use the super fb too.
Japanese show a good example of this by in competative play using the super fb every chance they get rather than holding out and hoping they get a chance at a RD.

chun ain’t doing dick around here and has fallen to #3.

I know I’m always saying Ken’s the best in the game but actually, I think Ken and Chun are tied for best with Yun right behind them. I could explain if you want but I’m too lazy… :stuck_out_tongue:

Whats wrong with Alex?

Im usally not the one to complain about tiers, or even care, but recently everyone i know and myself have been getting murdered by a really good alex…

so i am basicly wondering what his weaknesses are and what factors threw him into tier 3?

alex doesn’t have:
2 low shorts or one far low attack XX super.
most of his moves knock the opponent down if they connect, so you have to keep guessing.
a lot of his special moves and most of his normals can be punished.

but other than that he is pretty good.

Makoto is the best, ahhhhhhhhhh i hate her!

eww its tru, I hate her more than Chun

I hate Yun too, they all broken.

Naw just makoto, at least vs yun she is :bluu:

I usually get fucked Makoto vs. Yun. =/

Just surfing thru the old pages and came across this thread again. Well, it would be interesting Rock if you’ve updated the list with new revelations from the japan scene. Or does list only apply to america? Anyhow, Dudley definitely has an advantage over Ryu as proven in that japan tourney where every1 had to use either ryu or dudley, and the ratio of dudley’s winning over ryu was sick. :stuck_out_tongue:

Really? cuz I always have a tough time against a Ryu who does nothing but stays back and throws ex fireballs here and there, dont come in unless he can attack, and that standing roundhouse really owns me to a point where i cant get in, any suggestions?

basically, ppl who play boring can kill me… I dont think the Japanese play like that.

for one thing, you shouldnt be getting owned by a Ryu that depends solely on std.rh for anti air. A predictable anti air should be parried easily. A tough ryu will jump straight up rh,jump towars hp, hpxxshoryuken if parried aside from his usual std.rh which is good aa and all. Try crossing him up, since std.rh doesnt cover ryu’s head like crch.fierce does.

Whats more, ex fireball isnt a keepaway move. As Mopreme said, Ryu needs to get in close todo damage. Ex fb is ryu’s “best poke” and corners your opponent easily if you’re on the offensive. You shouldnt be letting him have his way and getting enough meter in the first place to spam those.

hope that helps.

WTH?!? When was this?

sup man, thanks for reading the thread. when i came back from japan, i made a new thread: http://www.shoryuken.com/forums/thread50607.php

the 3rd Strike Match-ups thread is my version of american tiers. i have decided japanese tournament play is not a viable reference to determine what characters are top tier, because some japanese players can read minds (no joke, they can read minds as far as sf is concerned). hence, it’d take a survey of all the tournament play in japan in a week to start to get an actual idea of a tier list. one instance of a dudley beating ryu isn’t sufficient evidence to tell which character is dominant. even if it’s a whole tournament or some guys playing all day, it’s still not enough to tell. it’s cool though, i made the same mistake: i thought necro was top tier because of sugiyama. there wasn’t really anyone in japan who could just shut down his necro, not even k.o! even dr. sub-zero is guilty of confusing a good player with a good character. sugiyama can read minds, that’s why his necro is good.
japanese 3s tournament play is of too high a level to decipher a tiering by observational modes alone. if i were to make a new tier list at this point, i’d have to go to japan and get a sample pool of top non-ume players, play against each of them myself, so i know they all about equally as good, then have them all play each other for a week and then take that data and use it as a basis for my list. when i went to japan, i learned that i still didn’t know shit about the game. i recommend using american 3s footage as a basis of a tier because there’s only one american player who can read minds, at that is frankie3s. the ability to read the mind of your opponent is called “ume,” and is pronounced OO-MAY, in honor of the origin, umehara. further, in light of this new concept, i have speculations that justin wong and ricky ortiz may also be able to do this. i have very little play vs them so i cannot say for sure. the only tier list that i will endorse as fact at this point is TK’s (see my other thread for it), any other is just nonsense / bullshit / fanboy / limited data / wrong. even both of mine are garbage. thanks for bringing this topic up, i wanted to write about it but didn’t have the motivation without an external stimulus. i have never played vs hsien or mopreme, so i am not able to comment on their ability to ume. please understand that there is a big difference between being really really good, and being able to ume. the hard part is telling between the two, because tiers are based on players who are really really good. tier listing of ume players’ characters mostly reflects who can read minds the best.

very well said.
i guess it all depends on the player and not really on the character.
